Should story-driven DLC be connected to main story arc or not?

A DLC doesn't need to be connected to the main plot, but it needs to be interesting. I just don't see any real reason to care about the previous Inquisition.

Or the previous Inquisitors. And especially the Avar. If it happened to be say that the ancient elves kidnapped him or something I think you'd find most people a lot more interested.

the main story is done and I can't really think of what else they could add to it, plus the inquisition isn't going anywhere so I'd prefer post-game content. I always felt disappointed at the end of origins that it just ended there and I couldn't do anything afterwards - even in the limited post-game state DA:I has you can go to all the areas you went to prior to the final battle.

No. A story driven DLC should make sense to the protagonist involved in it and add benefits that can be used during the main story. Warden's Keep while not directly connected to the main story it allows The Warden to get a storage chest and one of the strongest swords in the game in Starfang as well as gaining the power of blood increasing there control of the taint in there blood, it also gave us more fereldan and warden lore. I think this DLC for DA:I makes since because it fits with the Inquisition, It is more then just about getting info on the last inquisitor and how the inquisition was back in his day, even though that information is important for a revived organization to learn there accurate history. But I think people are missing the point that even after cory is beat the Inquisiton has a job and one of the main jobs of the inquisition is to stop heretics and cults from bringing gods and demons in the world that can cause chaos. Just how the golems dlc while not connected to The Warden the fact it was in the deep roads and The Warden is a well known hero by that point it makes sense they was contacted. The same is said for the Inquisition because if the circle, templars and seekers obviously are in no position to stop the threat then who else? I would rather the Inquisition do a job that makes sense for them, stopping a cult fits them more then going in the deep roads to fight darkspawn which would fit the wardens. I would not expect the wardens to deal with this threat unless it gets to out of hand. This is also a incomplete mission by the old inquisition and while I wish it was more story driven and had more cutscenes the fact we already dealt with Avvar all this DLC did was expand on a group we met in the game already its not like they were randomly added in, this mission made more sense then fallow mire in my opinion with them randomly kidnapping our soldiers in a area I expect the Chasind to be. Not all DLCs have to be main plot driven because what hero has only one quest and journey? The Warden did more then kill the archdemon, Hawke did more then fight the Arishok, this is the legend of the Inquisitor and fighting a God is never a bad addition.

Edit: Plus defeating a Avvar God is a much needed feat for the Inquisitor, The Warden has defeated many powerful named foes, and Hawke has defeated more then the Inquisitor so far. 10 dragons while nice does not compare to a god and now we are getting some stronger foes under our belt.

If we go by Origins, Solas will most likely be last when it comes to DLC. I would like stuff that focuses on rebuilding after the conflict.

This is why devs don't come here. They can never do it right.

And if the topics and all were written in a civil manner, maybe they would. But they never are, it's always some jack ass acting like Bioware murderd their family.

You know, I see more posts complaining about that behavior than posts that actually contain it.

Yes. Otherwise why? I don't need more stuff. I need story.

And...it needs to be Solas. What happens next. Where did he go? What will he do next?

Or it could be Dorian in Tevinter trying to put things right.

Or something with Varric.

But mostly...Solas.

I believe some add-ons should, and others should not. Keeps things fresh.

If it has all the elements I like then I don't care either way.

Both? I was happy to get more stuff to do in the new DLC, and I thought the Avaar were interesting enough to learn more about them.

But now I would like either a character-focused DLC (Solas? Stuff with Elves? Maybe an investigation regarding Solas whereabouts and the orb?), or actual story-driven content, like a meeting with Sebastian in Starkhaven regarding Kirkwall or something. Cause you know, the Inquisition is important now.

I like different types of DLC, and they have shown that they do that. Legacy and MotA were quite different as well.

Here's the thing. If you're going to make a DLC unrelated to the main plot, make it worth my time and money. Offer us new game play mechanics, a hub, new environments. There should be character interactions and an intriguing story. Make a DLC that feels like a DLC; by that I mean, it feels like content that's not in the vanilla game.

Either way... half the people will yell at the developers for the choice.    Honestly, I would love if its part of the story, but I don't mind side questing at all either.    So I personally am good with either.

Personally I'm going to have to say both. Yes, I certainly want to see the main story continued. But, I'm also quite happy to explore to rest of the world. There is so much to explore both in terms of the world and our understanding of what the different cultures define as gods. Understanding of what might be considered a good may lead us to better understand Solas and the Elven pantheon.

I don't think that it has to.  If it has a well written story of its own I'm fine with that.

I actually liked Leviathan because it made the Catalyst walking out at the end less out of the blue.  But DLC like Warden's Keep, Lair of the Shadowbroker, Stolen Memory, the Stone Prisoner, Citadel had nothing to do with the respective storylines but they were good all the same.

Personally, DLC is always more interesting to me when it ties to the overarching plot in some form. Do I think it has to? No. Do I prefer it to be related to the main plot? As a general rule, yes.

I prefer something fresh and fun. It needs to tie into the story (otherwise there's no point in doing it) but that's only the hook
