Thanks. I usually avoid using the term since I agree that people usually use it as a go to insult for characters that they dislike, even when it's uncalled for. And I still wouldn't call Bianca a pure Mary Sue. Her appearance is thankfully too brief to make her one.

Which is why I put borderline.

I don't see why they added her to be honest. To expand on Varric's personal tale? It seems like a useless addition, and ruins the point of it before, being the only story he doesn't tell. It's kind of like Miranda's father in ME3, I think they put her in because they wrongly felt like they needed to. I don't think many people were DYING to know about Bianca, and it's something that's better left unsaid. Leaving the story untold adds more to Varric's character than telling it I think. Everyone has things they don't like talking about.

It also begs the question why Varric won't tell bestfriend Hawke who he's known for a decade about it, but will more or less spill the beans to someone who is basically a work colleague.

It was a pointless addition, made to tell a story that didn't need to be told, with a character that BW very obviously wanted you to like A LOT and then tried too hard to make her squeeze into a dynamic that was already there. (The dynamic being Hawke and Co. more than the Inquisition)

That being said, I didn't hate her. I had no strong feelings one way or the other on her, I just don't see why they included her at all.

I was the same way with Kai Leng in Mass Effect 3. People were hating on him and I couldn't because he is voiced by Troy Baker.

I felt sorry for Troy Baker. He's one of the best VAs in the video game industry and he got handed some of the worst dialogue ever written for a video game character. Talk about wasted...

I hope they bring him back at some point to voice a character that isn't lame.

A companion voiced by Troy Baker would be really cool.

That's why I wanted Kai Leng to be the Winter Soldier of Mass Effect

Such a waste

Or a companion voiced by Laura Bailey. Do you hear us, BioWare? We need them!

No.  Please keep those two obnoxiously ubiquitous VAs away from my games please.

A thought about Bianca being exempt from blame...

It's ironic that so many don't want to punish her at all when you think about the view DA characters have on the magisters who invaded the black city. They're so often scorned as monsters, but is the situation really that different? The magisters didn't intentionally create darkspawn. They weren't even technically responsible. As I understand it, the tales say the Maker did as a punishment; although considering how powerful Corypheus became it sounds like people uninvolved are the ones actually suffering while in a way the magisters (Corypheus at least) were rewarded.

In Bianca's case she created a disaster of lesser proportions in the way of red templars. The difference is she involved Larius/Janeka/Corypheus out of curiosity while the magisters did it for personal gain.

There's a pretty big difference between a bid to acquire some unspeakable form of power out of religious obedience following the sacrifice of thousands of slaves and being really stupid and irresponsible.

Two main differences.

First, intentions:

Bianca wanted to help Varric understand and stop Red Lyrium by studying it.

The Magisters wanted tohelp themselves and the Old Gods by usurping the Maker.

Second, methods:

Bianca gave the information to a Grey Warden mage since they would know more than anyone else.

The Magisters murdered thousands of slaves to use their blood as fuel for their magic to breach the Veil.

Brosca/Aeducan crowned a king ending a civil war and possibly saved a paragon recovering the secrets to golem armies. This added to ending a blight.

Bianca made a crossbow she doesn't let anyone but her boyfriend use.

Spoiler

To be fair, it's not the crossbow her family's lobbying Paragon status for her for, it's some other doodad she designed. But even she's skeptical she'll get it because she thinks Orzammar would never go for a pure-bred surfacer Paragon.

I don't know, I'm talking out of my arse, ignore me.

Do Grey Wardens count as casteless? Its been a while since I've played origins, but I thought that Aeducan gets his honour restored after completing Orzammar.

One of the supplementary materials says that a Dwarf who joins the GWs doesn't lose their caste.

In the base game of Origins though we lost our caste before we were recruited and can regain it if we crown Bhelen (maybe Harrowmont too but I never checked around), with Vartag calling us "Prince" again.

There's no way they'll bring Varric back as a companion in the next game. The most he'll get is a cameo.

I really, really dislike her, she is full of herself, and not reaaly understanding what she has brought to the world. That is what mostly annoys me, she does not seem devastated. On top she threatens me? Come on!
The other one I hate is Dagna. I ditched a character just to remake my keep state, hoping she will be replaced by someone else. Nope, she is forced on me, I cannot stand her voice, neither her personality. Whenever I am in the forge I mute my game. Yep, that much:)

Her voice is just tooooo annoying. And she's intolerably chipper. And she makes jokes that aren't funny.

Bianca does seem rather unpleasant. But I can relate to her when she says (something like) "what should I do, punish myself for this forever?" It's a callous attitude, and she could probably strand to feel a bit more remorseful, but I do hate it when other people make you feel like doing a bad thing means you should flagellate yourself eternally.

She just doesn't seem like a very nice girl, though. It kills me that Varric is so hung up on her (because I'd like to romance him  ;) )

of all the good things that Dragon age got from the success of Mass Effect I always hoped the interrupt feature would have made the leap with the dialogue wheel. just that moment when you walk away from some one or they are talking and getting on your nerves you can choose to do something fitting your class..mage blasts them with a fire ball, warrior buries their weapon into their head, and rouge either throws a dagger or shoots an arrow hitting them between the eyes. also with good interrupts like pulling a soldier  out of the way of a killing blow, or feeding a hungry refugee from your own rations, or even as a mage using your magic to heal some one.

I wanted to at least have a bro -option to tell Bianca that she shouldn´t write to Varric anymore, and let him live his life. Her being married and all. In a very snide way too. No such luck.

Given the setting and from what we know of the cut-throat nature of the Merchant's Guild, she is likely in a marriage of convenience meant to advance two families fortunes and probably has no feelings for the guy at all.

In the setting and in real life when given such circumstances, it was quite common for them to take on lovers aside from their respective spouse. Men would take mistresses and so on. Anora will mention to a warden romancing Alistair that Cailan had mistresses, Alistair can take the Warden on as a mistress if he marries Anora, and in my current playthrough, Leliana is a mistress to King Cousland and was announced as such at Celene's ball.

I'm all for honoring marriage and being true to your spouse, but I wasn't at all surprised about her dalliance with Varric considering the nature of the setting.

Do we know that it's not Varric who's writing to her?

It's a two-way street to be in a relationship. If you're going to sit down and talk to one of them about how destructive the relationship is, might as well talk to both. As it is, I doubt Bianca's forcing herself on him.
