Still, wouldn't DA:I itself be enough for that? If this dlc really is more of the same, it won't tell them anything the base game couldn't.

The DLC isn't the same though. It follows a more different pattern with the area, adding more complex enemies, "meanigful" sidequests that tie to the plot of the area, lore info and a fair amount of NPC interaction. Basically it's doing what DA:I intended to do with all of the areas in the base game (while there were some areas that had a great side-main quest, there are others that were quite boring and only fun to explore).

This is more or less a further experiment on where they want to take the series. Since generally graphics, exploration and fun combat are what sells, they seem to want to integrate these aspects into the game while trying to balance their signature story-telling and character development.

I felt that most of it WAS more of the same. However there's some small differences that I feel are a step in the right direction. Puzzles, for one. I'd love to see more puzzles throughout the story, not just Astrariums. Also, during the Dragon fight, Hakkon spawned Lurkers instead of Dragonlings. Now, I know it's nothing major, but that's a small change that I appreciated. Lets take it a step further, have a Dragon spawn other types of enemies, and after that, lets add different abilities and behaviors for each Dragon!

On their own, these small things don't seem like much. But I feel like it's a small step in the correct direction, and I hope Bioware keeps going!

Personally no, it's mostly filled with fetch quests, maybe aroun 3-4 cutscenes. It's Skyrim with no mods and it will screw up your mods on PC if you use them. Companion interaction is non-existence.

Thank you for letting me know. I'll probably watch someone on YT playing through it then... Companion interaction and character development is something I was really looking forward to :/ I'm happy that they're trying to expand the lore, but I wish they approached it differently.

Ah, okay. In that case, I can't comment as much. Most of what I heard was that this is a repeat of DA:I.

If it's as you say, quests ideally more in the style of Crestwood, then I can only see that as a benefit.

How many DLCs progress the main story? Witch Hunt is really the only one and Legacy progressed the story of DAI, though not DA2. Warden's Peak and Golems of Amgarrak certainly didn't. Neither did MotA.

It would take a lot to convince me that "Frostback Basin" isn't just the cut "Frostback Pass." I know one of the writers said this content was made entirely after Inquisition launched, but BioWare doesn't have the best track record when it comes to honesty about their products.

Legacy absolutely progressed the story of DA2. Hawke is the story of DA2.

So most players who gave feedback wanted more MMO fetch quests and a DLC that had no bearing on the story, no impact, no WTF choices, no character story progression, no NPC development/immersion, no meaningful NPC story interaction etc.

Really?

I don't believe that for a second.

This DLC is just more of the same and that's great if you liked DAI as a MMO. I was sold on the premise that it was a RPG.

Yep not happy with direction of this first dlc. I'd hoped they'd react to feedback regarding mmo fetch over story content. Hoping rather unoptimistically that future dlc's will be reflective of this issue.

I definitely didn't mean you sry should have been more specific

I'm talking about people like Melca who just jump at people because they don't like DA:I

Thats very fanboyish

Im sorry but how do you expect people to respond when your original comment is written like flamebait?

He calls everyone a fanboy who does NOT share his opinion about the game.  People have called him out constantly for it too.

If the forums are so toxic, maybe someone should invoke the Rite of Annulment, and purge it. :D get rid of all the abominations and start from the ground up.

But anyways, I watched most of LPPrince's stream, though I feel asleep near the end and woke up just in time to see the final boss battle, and the chat with Ameridan and some other scenes. Coming from someone who absolutely abhors dai, the dlc does seem pretty good. Not only lpprince, but I watched some others' streams, and what caught my attention the most, was the insane increase in difficulty, that everyone was struggling with, even on casual difficulty. If not for anything else, I want to play it just to try my hand out at the tougher fights.

I was a bit disappointed by the end reveal of Ameridan though (why does his name sound like American?) because he was another elf, and I'm like, really Bioware? -.- :/ it does look like just more of the same though, with some further lore regarding elves and Orlais, and how their relationship deteriorated, and a little history of the original inquisition. Like I said, I just want to play for the tougher fights, but if any of you guys liked the fetch questyness of the main game, or want to learn more about the inquisition, you should enjoy the dlc、 as well. I hate the inquisition, I certainly don't want to know more about it. If/when it comes out for ps3、 I'll buy it, when it goes on sale for $5.

Playing through on Normal, I went in at level 24 with my party at 23. Overall, the difficulty wasn't much higher, I did decide that I hated being a 2H Reaver and once I swapped to SnS Reaver everything became a joke. The bosses were good though, and the Ice Giant was an amazing fight. I can't wait to go through it on Nightmare, in like 100 more hours cause I like to over-prepare.

I agree. Be prepared to get ridiculed and have people attempt to bully you off the forum for liking it.

You keep throwing the word "bully" out and I am not sure you understand the term. I have seen dickery on both sides of the fence, but I haven't seen anyone actively bullied. You do seem to ridicule a lot if people, though. A lot. There is a lot of hostility in your postings.

I think you're making yourself miserable. Take a deep breath and stop letting the opinions of others muddy your enjoyment of the game. It almost feels as though you're a bit insecure about your own opinion and you need everyone to share it in order to feel validated. If you love this game, no one can ruin that for you. I am glad you enjoy it. You shouldn't dwell on those who don't.

Well, that is one way to miss the point completely. Good job!

On topic:

One issue I always had was that most of the high level fights didn't seem rewarding. The loot you gained was mediocre at best. A friend just finished the DLC and texted me that a lot of the rifts and enemies seem to drop much better loot. That is good news to me and is definitely a plus.

Yes, the loot is much better in the DLC, though I did still end up using crafted over the stuff that was dropped.

I like pointing out that these same complaints have been said for every game and DLC thats been done.

Seriously though, I have nothing against constructive criticism but this forum has become toxic.   When people get bullied for liking the game...something needs to be done

Um...since when? I've given calm, rational criticisms that listed elements I would have liked to see in DA:I as well as any future installments and other elements that I thought were lacking and you jumped down my throat calling me "lazy," implied that I was an idiot who wants instant gratification and that I was some kind of mustache twirling villain that wants everyone to hate the game and will not be satisfied until everyone descends into a rage fueled inferno. You've never been open to constructive criticism or criticism of any kind about DA:I.

To the OP: where did they claim they'd made this DLC based on player feedback? I haven't seen anything like that.

So I think I found it, here in this new PC Gamer interview:

Given that you started this project before the game was released, how much were you able to respond to feedback in this DLC and how much of it has to go into whatever comes next?
That's a fair question. In actual fact, the game was released in November and one of the things we heard loud and clear from the fans was that they really enjoyed the depth of the story—that's what they were paying for. They wanted to see more lore, more interesting characters, more people to interact with. That's one of the focuses for this DLC was to push how that kind of content can exist in a large space. Something that is interesting to maneuvre over and that, when you get to the key plot points, has the high-end parts of Dragon Age: Inquisition as well.
What you'll find here is that the Avvar—the barbarian characters—we've gone deep on them. You're gonna see them doing things as well as you're told about them doing things. You'll see characters that are interacting a lot more with the world and the environment in response to your presence. Instead of putting things in a cutscene, we want to put you as the player character into the events that are happening.
It's something that we've wanted to do a lot more in the past, but for this DLC it was something that we've been able to build from the ground up.

One thing people want from DLC is new stuff, but—having a fair amount of experience with BioWare fandom—what people want is to see their specific favourite characters back again. Is that a challenge, when you're scoping this kind of thing out—which actors are available, and so on?
Oh yeah. It's a fantastic problem to have, I'll tell you that. Having people say 'I really want to see more of X or Y' is a great problem from a design perspective.
One of the characters who was most well-received was Scout Harding. She had kind of a B-roll in Inquisition but for Jaws of Hakkon, because she was so well-received in the main game, we pushed her more to the forefront. She's in the world, you can interact with her and talk to her, and she's going to give you her opinion about what's going on.
Particularly, given that Scout Harding is incredibly good at finding things, having her along for the ride to find out where the last Inquisitor got to is a bonus for the Inquisition.

So the basis for Jaws was already decided before Inquisition shipped, but certain things were emphasized more based on the feedback.

as was mentioned in another thread, its entirely possible that they started this DLC before DA:I shipped, but after it finished production, which would explain the utter lack of any evidence of feedback

Nope, that's not it. One of Bio's people commented in the other thread that they had started work on the dlc only after DAI was finished/released. What you posted is recent, I can't believe they already did an interview about the dlc! Thanks for sharing this.

I don't think its a perfect game. I rate it a 8/10

I just don't think its garbage like you do. I've had fun and many people have.    I just wish some of you would have the common courtesy to stop posting on the positive threads and let people enjoy the game...enjoy it.

I never said it was garbage, and those who like it are obviously free to do so. It may come as a shock to you however that people who dislike the game have a right to dislike it and express their opinions and criticisms as well.

PS: how is this a positive thread? Maybe you should stop white knighting the game in every critical thread hm?
