I think you may be seeing things you are overanalyzing and interpretating some sort of depth that DA:I's story apparently has when there really isn't any of that

I did pay attention to the story because as a DA fan I kept hoping there was more to it but nope it was just terrible

Bioware obviously didn't put much effort to it but hey maybe its just 2deep4me? (lol)

Too deep for you? You don't have to read between any lines to see that DAI explores the concepts of faith and religion. The game is rather overt about it, from Cassandra holding onto to her beliefs despite what we find out in the Fade to Vivienne's insistence that the Inquisitor should use peoples' beliefs to grab and hold onto power. It was even displayed as the focus of the game's plot in the "Hero of Thedas" trailer.

You can certainly argue that Bioware didn't discuss these concepts well (and I would disagree), but that would require actually dissecting the plot, the characters, the dialogue and what it all says about the themes. But you seem more interested in criticizing Inquisition's pacing and its ability to construct high level drama, which is valid, but that pertains more to entertainment level than depth.

I don't think it "explores" them in any way

Its just part of the game more than in DA:O and DA2 for obvious reasons but thats about it

There is no "nuanced view" etc.

And its definitely the typical saving the world story (unlike a poster here suggested) and no less generic than DA:O (in its premise)

Difference is that DA:O is better in its execution

It focuses on the story (instead of pointless openworld) and explores different conflicts (like I already said: Orzammar Politics, Dalish etc.)

Bioware didn't care about the story this time around and its noticable

The very short and rushed story (about 20% of the game)) and the openworld part (about 80% of the game) feel like two different games

Hell most of the zones don't have anything to do with the main storyline and the story missions take place in other enviroments

I can't wait to try the DLC. I have been immensely pleased with my DA:I experience all around. Could I pick a couple nits? Sure ... will I? ... nah had way too much fun and just happy enough about DA:I that anything I didn't like doesn't matter that much. Amazing game ... anything extra sounds cool.

I liked Inquisition - but this is Bioware's weakest story-DLC that I've ever played.

Arrival is a Mass Effect DLC, not Dragon Age.

Or Citadel. I like that DLC but the story is complete, utter crap.

If there are people who enjoy this type of game play, so be it. I won't begrudge them for it. Personally, its not my cup of tea. It makes me a bit sad because I lapped up every single BW game and DLC since the original KoTOR, except Pinnacle Station (plus one-off purchases here and there before KoTOR). Either I've changed, or BW has. Is this the new form of gaming that everyone likes? Have I finally become the old fart that day dreams of "the old days" when "everything was better"? I think I'm having an existential crisis right now.

Let us not forget Pinnacle Station if we're talking about DLCs which were not good.

(I disagree with you on Citadel, but I do understand it requires a high camp tolerance.)

But yeah, Pinnacle Station is probably the worst Bioware DLC. I'm on the fence about buying this, but since I've got a PS4, my brilliant plan of spinning my wheels and waffling comes at no cost to me.

It's an alright dlc. I mean I didn't like DAI's quests because I thought they were too mmo-y and the dlc is the same in my opinion. Hmm. Was it worth the $15 barely. I was hoping it was going to have more weight and meaning, not to add to the original but in its own way. Hopefully the next dlc will be better

Yep no consequences at all. Seems more like a jrpg to me in some respects. Enjoyed it but don't like where this is going.

I was quite happy about it, I get a little tired of "moral choices" being forced upon me at every turn seemingly with every game thesedays, it was quite refreshing to just hack and slash a whole bunch of bad guys for once.

it was on purpose and not meant to be taking seriously

compared to this crap its on a whole other level

I wonder what made them choose to go so light on the story for this DLC? It's not like they don't know how to write a side story.

I feel the same way
its sad to see that so many fans are compromising and liking DA I +DLC even though it has nothing of what made Bioware great

DA I is a poor clone of Skyrim and other games but its not why people bought Bioware games

Even if they made obvious missteps with DA2 and ME3 they were still great and instead improving on their concept they went in a completely new direction its a shame

story and character driven RPG's where you made many choices and met interesting characters were mostly exchanged in favor of a poor open world with a million fetch quests and MMO design

Oh I got what I was expecting: fan service. Shamelessly glorious fan service.

But that doesn't mean it gets a pass for being completely out of place in a time of war nor does it get a pass for having a story that served as little more than an excuse to get everyone back together which from what I've seen, haven't played it yet, Jaws of Hakkon is not.
More importantly, I'm looking forward to some good fights more than story content.

Furrhermore, your argument is contradictory: you defend a DLC that is a nothing more than an excuse for a reunion party then slate this one for...come to think of it you never stated why exactly.

As some mentions that a Bioware dev explained that the DLC was made from fan input, here's the link to the quote:

I know I sound like a broken record, but: I've played every BioWare game since Baldur's Gate (well, except that Sonic the Hedgehog thing) and I think Inquisition is great. It contains most of the stuff that has kept me buying their games since 1998, including my favourite bunch of BioWare characters ever. Not a compromise for me.

Obviously your mileage varies.

While I can't comment on Jaws of Hakkon yet, I have to say that Arrival easily has one of the worst setups in the entire ME series if you put even the slightest bit of critical thought into its plot. Just try to think about why characters do the things they do, and why certain things are where they are (I mean, Object Rho? WTF man), and the logic at work becomes a painful mess. I do it because it's part of the story and it makes some lines of dialogue in ME3 slightly better and make more sense, but I really wish it was pulled off differently, without the idiotic indoctrination thing. The gameplay is fun, but the story is crap. It's hard to imagine how JoH can be worse.

Frankly I didn't even find the gameplay fun, since they insisted on having Shepard solo the entire DLC.

Liking the combat and gameplay mechanics or not does go a long way in enjoying a game or DLC. I really liked ME2's combat and hate DA:I's combat so that made my exploration 20x more of a chore. I didn't really scrutinize Arrival because I liked ME2 as a whole so much I was just like "yay more ME2!" I did find LotSB awesome though and played it through several times. Obviously I didn't like the non main plot part of DA:I (and there were a lot of problems I had even with the plot part) so getting more of that would not be enjoyable for me. I actually really like how they just released the DLC with no fanfare and no prior warning so I didn't have time to build false expectations and be crushed when they didn't come true.

I have a question for those who have played Jaws of Hakkon, is Hakkon a male Dragon?
