Welp, I can't do it. Can't play as male Qunari anymore. Because Bioware didn't pass skeletal animation 101.

I don't see how gender would affect, though I kinda agree with human mage since whole mage vs templar war that started DAI's happenings.

At first, for me, it was the idea that males fit leadership roles better than females do. Not saying females can't lead, it just seems like their femininity gets diminished in the process.

However, since playing through it I have seen more examples that support a male playthrough for human mages. Cassandra, for one thing. A romance between a mage and seeker has a more meaningful impact, especially given Cass' history. I suppose the same could be said for a female mage and Cullen, though he's just an advisor. You can't take him on most missions with you. Cass is clearly the superior romance.

Let's also not forget the ball. Not just the uniform, but the dance as well. Obviously made for male characters.

The choice for Divine. With males it's explained that you are not eligible by mere fact you are male. A female on the other hand really has no good reason for being ineligible. It's said your weight would break the Sunburst throne, which seems lame as a stand alone reason. Plus, making a comment about a female's weight? :?

The Envy Demon at Theirinfall. My mage chose the templars, so he fought Envy. This story flows better if Envy's new target is male, which was the case with it's prior target, Lucius. Having Envy learn a brand new set of characteristics, that of a female, just seems like too much of a leap. I understand this story isn't picked by everyone, and even with a female it can be rationalized that the demon can utterly fail to copy anything about her. Still, the story seems to have more impact with a male, whom Envy actually stands a good chance of copying due to prior experience.

The part where a certain returning character can take control of the Inquisitor to restrain Morrigan, seems to make more sense if the Inquisitor is male. I'd think Morrigan would have no issue resisting another woman's physical hold. Although, my male human mage didn't drink from the well, so in my case it's moot. Also moot for me are the same-sex relationship companions, but these elements do favor players who takes these routes. Also more little things like this. Such as asking the "Spirit of Choice" for virgins. Makes more sense coming from a male. Same with hitting The Iron Bull with the stick. He chides Cassandra for hitting like a girl, so to follow that up with a mage female who should be weaker than Cassandra? Doesn't make sense. A male on the other hand, even if he isn't a warrior, makes more sense.

The Skyhold pajamas. They shouldn't be worn by anyone, but the male wears it better. It is a male outfit.

The male has a better presence while sitting in judgment. Though this may due to the voice actors/actresses, in part.

Other reasons that I'm forgetting at the moment.

I'd say that templar=mage is more intresting than seeker=mage, though Cassandra is given bigger role in story than Cullen is. Also Cassandra can leave to be Divine so that breaks off romance, when romance with Cullen can continue.

I think Bioware was going more for unisex uniforms which is nice, but animations were designed for male Inquisitor first which bugs me, it's just so lazy from Bioware to make such obvious mistakes. I think lot of problems is the default of human male Inquisitor and lack of care for different sex and races. Slobby.

I heard that Bioware first thought of making Inquisitor possible Divine, but for some reason that changed, probaply cause they added more races and Dalish or Qunari as Divine would have pushed lore too much.

I guess in general I just disagree with your points, since for the beginning to me sexes aren't that different that it would make an impact in some things you mentioned at all. Man and man can be more different from each other than woman and man after all.

But technically speaking, Cullen isn't a templar anymore. At most he's just a commander of the Inquisition who keeps taking lyrium and can do the templar related skills. But he's not of the templar order. Cass can be seeker or divine. That depends on your choices. Some would say the chance for heartbreak adds to the impact of the story. I would agree with that, as the fear of Cass being chosen for divine would play on my mage Trevelyan's mind. It also placed a demand on him to put his own feelings aside and support who he honestly thought would be best for Thedas.

Whatever they were going for, the male fits it better. That's my only point.

Female Elf Mage is where it's at.

As a dwarven inquisitor, sometimes during cutscenes the camera is centered on my hair; mostly because the game thinks I'm one of the taller races and doesn't take into account a dwarf's height. It looks kinda funny.

Otherwise my male dwarf inquistior hasn't had any animation issues. He moves a bit fast for my liking, but I suppose they wouldn't want to nerf a class just based on their height.

Yea, I kinda dislike how he's ex-templar now, but well Trevelyan is ex-circle mage so it kinda still fits. I think Seeker and templar is more intresting or that's what I'm going with, though Cass has some history with mages too.

I think the gender are pretty much same, but male Inquisitor has better animations cause slobbiness of Bioware and female Inquisitor is little ahead for me cause Andraste was female too and saved the world (Cass in some point commented on this how cool it is that both Andraste and Inquisitor are women who are saving the world).

I still think other races and classes fit to story as well though, you just need to make more of headcanons.

I have seen some animation issues in romance-scenes like with Cassandra kissing dwarf Inquisitors nose instead of lips, then some weird camera-angles with Qunari and dwarf Inquisitors when they are speaking in cutscenes and sometimes hands aren't together although they should like in dance scene in Winter Palace with female Inquisitor with Dutchess and when Corypheus tries to lift you up.

But seriously I think it's the 5 platform release.

For me, the British male and American female voices have better presence for judgment. Less so the other two.

I think the real issue is that BW just didn't have the balls to tell the fans to suck it up and play a human PC or just pass on the game, they didn't want to take that sales hit after DA2.  So they tried to please fans who wanted different races yet they did a half assed job of it and because of that we've got male elves with boobs and vaginas, broken limbs, and LIs and a PC with magical growth and shrinking spells.

I wish they hadn't put race options in DA:I. Race options was what made me buy the game (because I love them and I thought BW was going back to the things I loved about their games pre-DA2) and I wish I hadn't. :(

Why do you include the phrase "these days" in there? BW have always had pretty poor QC....

True... :(

Qunari male animations (and armor!) could do with some tweaking, almost had me re-rolling as a human just to have better animations and less clipping.
