Has anyone else not been able to get this achievement? I don't care so much about the achievement, but it makes me feel like I missed a room while combing through the temple.

And just to be clear, the "winter shards" are the ward/ice bombs throughout the temple right?

If not, I found my problem. If so, either I'm missing a room or it's bugged.

There are about 5 runes you need to find and activate - which give you schematics for awesome weapons, btw - as well with Veilfire, so you'll need a mage. They're not too hard to find. But yeah, you probably missed a few shards somewhere. Or you didn't light all of the fires. I think there's one on a balcony that you have to climb up to.

The only fire which I felt was tricky was the one before you enter the chamber with Ameridan and the Dragon, just before the door you need the Ancient Key for I believe. There's what looks to be a landslide of some kind on your right, you've gotta climb that to get up top on that balcony, and up there is another fire. Every other fire was pretty much in your face so long as you took a second to examine your surroundings.

Yea, I think I got all of those mentioned. I remember the rockslide to the right of the door and doing everything up there. And I also believe I got all of the rune/altar things as well.

I think maybe it just bugged on me for some reason.

Meh, I guess.

Have you beaten the boss yet? If I remember correctly, the achievement didn't trigger until during the boss fight. I believe he summons shards that you have to destroy as well!

Oh yea. I plowwed through the whole dlc yesterday and did the temple part 3 times to make sure I wasn't missing any. So I'm out of ideas.

Maybe I killed the reverant too quickly? I was already geared and leveled to a ridiculous degree so it went pretty quick. I'm one of those min/max people, I don't know why. It's a compulsion.

For some reason, I went through the whole thing, got all of the fires, and pretty sure all of the Winter Shards, and I'm showing 0% progress towards this achievement....

There's a locked door inside The Old Temple. You can visit it again after doing everything else there is to do in Jaws of Hakkon. Go back to the temple, unlock the door with a Rogue and inside there's one more fire to be lit, then the Firestarter achievement will unlock. That's what happened to me. First time I did the DLC and Ameridan's quest, I missed it because I was so focused on not freezing and taking damage so I forged ahead with the battle with the boss and found I had that cutscene that led to speaking with Ameridan. After that, there's no way to go back to the other areas in the temple. There's only one exit back to the Frostback Basin. But once you leave, you can go back there through the front door again and make your way to the locked door. The achievement does not have to be completed during the quest, thankfully.

Hey Talok, I have the exact same problem. I've definitely gotten all of the fires lit and I did the whole temple bit 3 times today to make sure I didn't miss any of the little ice guys (which I assume are the "Winter Shards"?) - and I still don't have the achievement :/ I considered that I may killed the revenant too quickly also - he pretty much died as soon as he spawned to Thousand Cuts, so I'm wondering if I may have missed one that way. Kind of annoying :/

I have heard that Revenant drops 3 shards during the fight.  He does it at different phases according to what I've read on different sites.  So, Thousand Cuts may have killed him too quickly, haha.  I think it's a poor mechanic for the achievement.  The shards should have just been placed in the area to begin with or have them launch from his dead body or something, so you can destroy them after he's gone.

Edit:  This is the guide I used when I missed one.

Thanks so much for that resource and your help, wwilt13 :) It was exactly that. I killed him again without using any ultimate abilities and I made sure to drag the fight out long enough for him to spawn 3 Shards - then I got the achievement! I agree it is a bit of a silly way to handle it, but oh well :) Thanks again!

Is that it? Is there a shard that spawns after fighting the boss for a while? I'm pretty sure I've killed all shards I've seen and lit all fires as well, but I don't get the achievement and I killed the boss in a couple of seconds this time around.

EDIT: OK, I read the Achievement Guide for Firestarter linked above and I also killed the boss too fast for him to spawn any shard. Next time then I guess.
