New game icons

Best Answer Jesse Reid , 25 March 2015 - 09:04 PM

What about if you own a physical copy?

I probably have the serial key still lying around here somewhere, I reinstalled it on my new pc a while back. I could even take a picture of the box and everything :P

From what I understand you can put your key into the Origin client and it should recognize it. Give it a try and then we will know. :P Go to the full post »

After my initial reaction of "What the heck just happened?!" when a refresh of the site populated every post with icons below the the poster's name I noticed that the ME1 icon is missing from mine.

What is required to display the icon and what do I need to do for that? I bought ME on Steam a long, long time ago... is that the problem?

Btw... thanks for bringing the icons back... but perhaps they are a little too large?

A few minutes ago I noticed that more icon's were added for the games I have registered. I've seen other's with the ME1 icon. I have ME1 for my pc that I purchased, since it wasn't available for the ps3 at the time, and want to register the game so the icon will show up under my avatar. Can someone tell me how to go about registering the game? Thank you

The changelog states that the import is imperfect due to the game not using the EA Account System.

That said, I'm psyched to have icons again. Of course I also would like Mass Effect 1 showing if possible, due to my love of symmetry, but I'm still psyched.

This.

I want to know how to get ME1 on there too. I didn't buy it on Steam though, it's one of the last games I ever bought on a physical disc :P

Mass Effect is hard to detect because it didn't use EA's account system. I believe if you own it on PC and have it in the Origin client it will write the entitlement we check for but don't quote me on that. :)

The last time I made the mistake of registering an existing, installed game with Origin, it didn't recognize it properly. I had the english version of DA:O, ordered from the UK... Origin insists I can only have the german version. All patches and DLC were missing, despite being actually there in the game itself. Then I was unable to start the game at all and the same happened to DA2. It didn't help that new installations were difficult due to the patches no longer being available from the old BioWare site. In the end I bought the Ultimate Edition on Steam so I could get my game back.

So... since I am currently playing ME, I am not eager to try to involve Origin again.

Neat. They're a little large, but otherwise it's nice having more than just DAO, ME2, and ME3 showing now. I assume the little white tower in the red box stands for being linked to the DA Keep or something? Looks like the Keep symbol, so that's my assumption.

Would be lovely if we could somehow link physical ME1 copies. I have the Trilogy release you did for PS3 so that I could finally have ME1 in addition to ME2 and ME3 (even though that meant I basically bought 2 and 3 all over again just to get it, haha)

I concur, I'd be cool to also get icons for the legacy Bioware games we own. I get how Baldur's Gate, KoTOR etc. isn't possible since there's no code, but for ME1 we did enter a code, so it should be possible somehow yes?

And yeah, perhaps all the icons are a bit too large. Maybe reduce the size by 10-15% ?

I like the Dragon Age Keep logo, I like the Dragon Age Keep B)

We only check every 3 hours so it might take a bit to show up. You could also try logging out of the forum and back in again, I think that will force a recheck. I do see you having it in the backend so it should show up eventually.

Can we turn them off? For me they are way to big and its not recognizing all of my games. So I'd much rather not have them at all or see other peoples icons.

That worked, thank you!

Origin recognized the key but didn't find the existing installation, so that's still untouched and working fine. :D

Why are they so huge? And what's the point of the Keep thing? I haven't played a Keep game.

Unfortunately those legacy games were from before BioWare used EA accounts so there isn't an easy check like we have for Mass Effect and Dragon Age. It could be something we add later but would take a bunch of work. We would have to figure out if we create a database of CD Keys and UPC codes, which would be hard to track down and also to keep updated, or do we just allow people to check a box saying they own it.

Would it work with a physical copy of the Xbox360 version? I'm guessing the answer is no, but I figured asking couldn't hurt. =]

No I don't think console versions had keys and also Origin only does PC titles. They did do an "On the House" promotion for DAO last year so maybe they'll do something similar for Mass Effect some day and you can grab it then.
