I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has responded, it has been enlightening  I never considered some aspect of console gamers perspective before, they sound very legit reasons to stay off the PC.  I just saw it through my own PC goggles of being able to do all things internet related on one box.  I think that's the #1 thing for me, but again, your reasons are legit as well.

Speaking of which, my back hurts from sitting at a desk.  I think I might try that hipster laying on the couch playing on a 60 inch tv approach to gaming. :)

P.S. I don't understand why anyone complains about a thread in their post.  Simply not read it\don't post if it bothers you.  Sorry, I have crazy ideas I'm a lunatic.

I've recently undertaken the task of building a PC, but since I live in Podunk USA, I order most of my parts online.

You guys might think it's fun to just build a PC while you're around parts.

Let me tell you, it's a whole new experience when you're ordering online and can't actually see what you're ordering :')

I order all my stuff online too, so I know what you mean. There's no good shops around here, so everything is kind of a game of roulette. Will the parts work? Are they lemons?

You never know till you get them.

Folks using the big TV excuse is not an excuse. I have my PC hooked up to both monitor & 50" TV. It all comes down to gamepads and the other unpleasant things about PC gaming (install, compatibility, pcs always needing to be fixed/taken care of, etc). If these things don't get in the way, I'm able to play on PC. As most of my PC tera bites are wasted on videogames rom images for every emulator out there and whatever PC game interests me that has gamepad support.

Are you telling me that the hole labeled HDMI on the video card also works on the hole labeled HDMI on my televison?  HERETIC!

That Skyrim vid is a great example why I never touch hacks.

I also have all 3 version of Skyrim, and my fave version is still the 360 one.

Mods =/= Hacks.

The beauty of mods is that you don't have to download any mods you don't want, and can download whichever ones you do want.

Also, ever since using an ENB preset, I can't play Skyrim without an ENB. It's just so gorgeous.

Surprisingly few people on the forum have played multiple platforms BTW. Which means there is a lot of talking out the rear end that goes on. Vide(te) this thread.

It could generally be summed up, though like this: Consoles are cheap, convenient, comfortable, voice chat is easy, and you spend most of your time playing; PCs can be more powerful, easier to do stuff like record video, more expensive, and you spend half your time updating hardware, drivers, fighting Origin, rebooting, and generally cursing. KB+M is more likely to give you RSI than a modern gamepad too.

The only thing that puzzles me is why it puzzles anyone that someone else would make a rational choice that is different from theirs.

This thread wasn't meant as a PC vs Console debate.  It was more of a convenience question.  I thought the migration to PC was natural since most of everything internet related I do is on the PC.  Everything you can do on console, you can do on PC.  Plus, the ability to multitask on one machine.  (I browse when I am in spectator mode)  I was just curious as to what others had to say.  So far, the majority of people were constructive in their reply.

You say that, but I don't think you've faced the absolute potatoes that some of us are doing our browsing on.

I've been gaming since the NES days. And there is one thing keyboard will never replace of gamepads. Comfort. I play from the comfort of my bed with 3 pillows behind my head, instead of;

Constantly moving a mouse requires way too much effort too, so I don't know how buddy in that gif got so massive?

NES?  good, I'm talking to an adult. :D You make a good point, its time the PC stopped using keyboards + mouse as its main gaming input device.  The problem with the keyboard + mouse is it has to be on a flat surface.  I need to contact Logitech with my idea before someone steals it!

Amen to that, I'm big on mods personally, when they can turn an 11 year on game from this:

They can't be all bad :)

(my Plugins folder for SimCIty 4 is approaching 3GB ... about 3x bigger than the base game itself!)

I can't believe this is onto its fourth page.  I guess I might as well join in.

Such a bizarre question - it's like thinking that a car owner shouldn't have a motorbike too.  It's actually an appropriate metaphor, although it needs to be inverted.  Motorbikes are dangerous, thrilling things - when everything is working as intended there is nothing better in this world.  Cutting edge, precision engineering at work.  But when you crash you're dead.  Game over.  Cars are (en masse) dull, boring, simple things, but they're generally pretty reliable, and most crashes can be fixed easily enough.

I work on a computer.  I distract myself from work on a computer.  I often fail to do the work I should be doing because the computer needs to update something or other that I've never used and never will use.  Or it just decides not to work of its own accord.  I feckin hate computers! It hurts me to compare them to motorbikes in any way whatsoever.

I play games on consoles, because they are (usually) reliable and simple and they don't keep asking me questions or try to take over every aspect of my existence.  I haven't played games on a computer since the last time I was supposed to be working for the government, and before that was my Spectrum (48k memory!!!).

I don't remember who said this, and a paraphrase :

Cars are like a metal box you encase yourself in.  Motorbikes are engine with your flesh as shielding.

I call that that the last real Sim City game. :)  I still play it now amd then, but what broke the game for me is that traffic can never be fixed.  In fact, alot of the bugs weren't fix, and I did not find the traffic controller mods satisfactory.

Try Cities Skylines - it's actually pretty good; the traffic and people are actually persistent and far more realistic than in SC4; i.e. they actually live somewhere and have jobs somewhere rather than SC4s approach of "go to nearest vacant job, return to nearest vacant house" - it's not perfect but it's at least a worthy successor to SC4 (unlike SC2013 or Cities (X)XL); supports modding from the get-go too and there are some good mods coming out now; including some buildings from a former Maxis employee.

I just got it recently after reading rave reviews, but I haven't started playing it really.  Sim City 5 was fun but so limited in scope.  And Yes, they still have the same traffic pattern, only this time its real-time simulation.  So you get to watch dumb sims wake up every morning and drive to the nearest possible workplace.  I'll spare you the details - but it basically causes unneccessary  traffic jams.  It seems like they still have no f'n internet and/or cell phones in Sim City!

P.S. Nice choice of photos to make your point.  You can turn THIS beautiful birds eye view into THIS garbage dump and recycling center in a filthy industrial zone. :D

Yeah that's the same thing pc players are thinking about your mom console controllers.

Don't give in man!  The console gives the MAN control over everything.  If your Xbox dies, you can only get it fixed by Microsoft, but if your PC breaks you have a range of choices to replace it with!

Bloodborne  damn you, I'm so envious!

It's really good. If you enjoyed the Souls series then "Bloodborne" is a brilliant new addition to the family.

It was only released today (according to Steam) - I'll buy it at the weekend, I promise :D

It's really good. If you enjoyed the Infinity Engine series then "Pillars of Eternity" is a brilliant new addition to the family.

Yeah, but it's a very pretty industrial dump complete with canals, curved roads, SPAM (agricultural mod) roundabouts and very few vanilla buildings :)

Those don't even look like the same game! And that's the thing with them: one mod usually isn't much (few are as big as MEIUTM for example) but you have a load order of dozens or hundreds of mods, and you can get an experience that's completely different.

Here's a question for fellow PC people: anyone have or played Crusader Kings II? That's a game you could never play on a console.
