I don't own mass effect for console, and I don't use any of the online feature on it, so my question may be stupid.  I'm just curious as to why you continue to play on console since you apparently have a PC to post on the forums on.  Why not just buy the PC version for $10?

Or do you all have keyboards attached to the console and use some in-game function?

Im not use to play anything on PC. When Im on PC Im normally working or navigating internet. My mind is already set that way.

On Ps3 I just play and dont worry about multitasking stuff I do on PC. Besides, a good gaming PC has to be constantly upgrading and have available resources, porn, torrents, and virus, PC gets slow, Windows8 SUCKS, drivers, etc, etc. On console I dont have to worry for ANY of those: I just play.

Mods are the only thing I like from PC games(not mods that allow cheating).

That Skyrim vid is a great example why I never touch hacks.

I also have all 3 version of Skyrim, and my fave version is still the 360 one.

So do you play the other 2 versions or just bought them as a collection?

For me, I bought a second hand Skyrim on xbox an didn't touch it yet, and I bought a legendary version on Steam still didn't touch it..

when playing darksouls I always like being summoned to help with the bosses instead of invading, same feeling in ME3 multiplayer..

RidiculousMammal, you do realize not every computer is capable of properly running Mass Effect, right?

As to the topic, I am a person who plays Mass Effect on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. There are reasons [aside from me being a collector of the series who just loves playing the games that much] why I use all of these options.

Why PC?

1. Mods. I love mods like one that doesn't force the first cutscene of Arrival on you until you want to see it in ME2, graphical ones [and mods that let me avoid texmod], and other content ones like restoring Anderson's final conversation with you to what it was going to be.

2. even without mods, it looks even better on PC

3. Gibbed Save Editor and coalescend editor are a LOT more simple on PC than the consoles [in terms of easiest to hardest: PC >>> Xbox 360 >>>>>> PS3].

4. easy access to collector's edition content. I didn't get a gaming PC until 3 months ago, so obviously getting a physical collector's edition is all but impossible with unused DLC. with STEAM [which I bought ME2 Digital Deluxe from] and Origin [which I bought the trilogy set on {for the Pinnacle Station DLC in ME1} and the ME3 Digital Deluxe $10 upgrade on]. What really made me happy was the fact that me buying the digital deluxe edition of ME2 not only gave me the collector weapon and armor on the PC version, but it ALSO gave me the Xbox 360 version of the DLC too, which I never could get since my ME2 collector's edition on the 360 was used.

Why the consoles?

1. I am far better at using the controller of a console with these games than keyboard and mouse. Sucks that Bioware seems to be against adding controller support for Mass Effect games on PC.

2. achievement/trophy collecting. These are 3 of the few games I can get the max score/platinum trophies in. I enjoyed doing it on the 360 so much that I wanted to redo it all again, so I got the PS3 version and did it again.

3. the PS3's free online. Sure, online on the PC is also free, but on PS3, I also have the benefit of using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse.

I'm guilty of being pretty much a dickwraith mostly though I do coop a bit. But I really really like Solaire for he was my only beacon of hope in that dark and depressing land during my first playthrough. No one has ever been so grossly incandescent!

I have basically none of those problems on PC - my rig is, I think, about 5 years old and in that time I've upgraded the RAM and chucked in a new GFX card and I've had no problems running any game released yet; I've had exactly 0 viruses I've had to deal with but then I don't do Torrents. Drivers I just update when required (the only one I have an issue with is the Razer driver since it always requires a full system reboot - even NVidia don't do that now) - honestly, if you've got half a clue-stick managing a PC nowadays, well, yeah, it's more of a ballache than a console - but not by too much.

Personally I think the pros outweigh the cons.

It bugs me when people who obviously don't have a clue what they're doing spout this same old tired argument like it's still 1998- guess what, you don't even have to set BAUD rates any more or specify which brand of SOUNDBLASTER your game needs.

I actually remember having to muck about with stuff like this:

maxresdefault.jpg

... and you know, if this was still the case, I might be in agreement with you and powering up the Megadrive.

You might want to change that and see what you're missing. It's not just giant chickens and Macho Men.

I suppose not, but I guess this is a sign that the PC era is coming to an end and I'm the last of the few who still uses it.

I wouldn't say that, I'm picking PC gaming back up, but PC gaming is just harder to stay current on. It's a money issue, as well as a time issue. The amount of time I've dedicated to building my home PC isn't something I can afford very often, even if I'm just upgrading it slowly as things improve through the years - then there's the problem of the hardware outgrowing the ports.

Weirdly it shouldn't work out that much more expensive than always having the latest console; just a bigger initial outlay.

PC Gamer spec a £1000 gaming rig every month and that would, I reckon, last as long as a console iteration without requiring any upgrades (you might not be able to run the newest games on max settings for the full lifetime, but they would run) so you're initial outlay is maybe ~ £550 more than a console.

However the games are on average £10 - £15 cheaper not including crazy 70%+ off Steam sales or what have you (unless you buy on Origin - hint, don't buy on Origin, it's cheaper to buy the physical copy from Amazon for instance). Generally online gaming on PC doesn't have a fee (MMOs notwithstanding) so you save the XBL or (granted, optional) Playstation Plus subscription. So depending on what you play and whether you subscribe to XBL or PS Plus, you'd need to buy at most maybe 50 games on PC for it to work out cheaper, probably fewer - which is easier than you might think :)

When the next-gen console comes out, just slap in a new graphics card and some extra RAM and you'll have saved a couple of hundred quid... though you can probably only get away with this once. after that the CPU will need upgrading... which will mean a new motherboard and when you get to that point you may as well consider a totally new build as most of the socket sets will have changed.

If you're a console gamer though and you trade your games in, and buy second-hand, you're gonna be quids-in, no doubt, that's always going to be the cheapest option - an option that simply isn't available on PC. Also, if you don't really enjoy tinkering with your PC's innards - consoles are certainly much less hassle... fortunately though, I'm a natural tinkerer!

Horses for courses, PC vs console, one's not really better than the other overall - but certainly one or the other may be better for you, personally.

Chealec, pls.

Do you honestly believe that you're the only one here who has experience of what's involved in managing a PC? That you're the only one with state-of-the-art hardware? Because your quoted lines above seem unnecessarily ad hominem, and that might be the only justification.

I'll quote some more of your words:  "Personally I think the pros outweigh the cons." Try to understand that for someone else, the cons may outweigh the pros.

Oki - I may have been a little harsh but he was spouting b*llocks.

I don't have state of the art hardware, my PC is something like 5 years old... and my point was that it doesn't take an MCSE to keep a PC happy and running well; it's far less hassle than it used to be. Grief, I remember the exploit in Windows 95 where you could simply send a corrupted packet to a given IP address and crash that computer (there was even a GUI for it in the end called WinNuke).

I can fully understand if he'd said personally he prefers just switching a console on and not worrying about security (which, to be fair, if you use the Playstation Network you can't be that worried about security - Sony certainly aren't*) or manually dealing with updates but "constantly upgrading and have available resources, porn, torrents, and virus, PC gets slow, Windows8 SUCKS, drivers, etc, etc." is just FUD... though I'm not in complete disagreement about Windows 8 (tablet UI on desktop is not the best idea ever).

* well, they might be worried but they're not very good at it.

My best friend is a tinkerer, and I'm not.  He thinks I'm a moron, despite it taking him at least two seconds to work out his left from his right.  I'm not a moron, I just hate computers.  As a photographer who learned my trade in a darkroom, I found the switch to digital to be a double-edged sword.  Speed and convenience is undeniable, as is the wealth of processing options, but you don't lose analogue stuff like prints and negatives, unlike hard drives and memory cards which all die sooner or later.  I've had two major failures, losing some important images, and I've also had 3 desktops and two laptops (and two digital cameras) which just simply died in ways that were uneconomical to fix.  Only one console has ever given me problems - Collectors killed my first PS3's Blueray drive - but all the others still work, including my Pong machine from 78 or 79.

I've only ever bought one game at full price on day of release - ME3 - so I'll stick with what I trust, and will buy a PS4 as soon as there's a game I actually want to play.  At this stage that looks like it might be ME4! As I said, my mate thinks I'm a moron, because he enjoys your approach and it's incomprehensible to him that I view consoles through a more favourable filter, but I'm glad you do seem to understand, even if you disagree.  :)

I demand Thunderdome!

Now who's gonna create the cross platform bridge required? PS3 vs PC

2 matches, one will consistently run at 60 fps, while the second runs at 25 fps, but loses 2 frames per wave, until 11, when it drops to a flat 1 fps.

So you're saying PC only needs to survive until w11?

I think the real issue is getting the PS3 to survive wave 1 at 60 fps without a meltdown

There are easy solutions to nearly all of this. This sounds more like a problem with the user, not the PC. I worry about none of these "problems," I just play.

If porn is affecting how you game, you should probably seek help.

Agreed.  Those are not problems, they're just what comes with having open ended hardware configuration.  That's like buying an Xbox and complaining that you have to buy the game too.  You do not for example have to constantly update drivers, its just a suggestion by the manufacturer.  If your video card, motherboard drivers are working fine for you, there should be no reason to update.

Bioware on the other hand, doesn't give you a choice. :)  Update or you wont be able to login\talk to people on your buddylist. BLAH!
