Full Details
I bought DAI recently and decided to replay DAO and DA2 to set up a "perfect" play. Basically, I had started messing with the Keep and tweaking stuff and realized I didn't even remember some of the options there ("Wait, who is Dagna again?"). So I just replayed it.
Anyway, having finished DAO, I'm getting ready for DA2 next, and DAI after it. With that in mind, I have some considerations for how to move forward.
I played DAO as a Warrior (tank), and my first time through DA2 I remember I played as a Rogue. I was thinking about playing DA2 as a Mage this time, but I'm a bit curious about what that's like. First of all, when I played DAO this time, I originally had my Mage (Morrigan) learn stuff like Earthquake and AoE fire (forgot its name). The idea had been, she'll knock them all down and set them on fire! The problem was it would knock me (and us) down as well. I even had the game set to Easy to turn off Friendly Fire, but the AoE moves still affected us (even if not damaging us). So I worry about being a Mage in DAII, and if I would be limited in my gameplay but not being able to use AoE and just weak or boring doing single-target. It's not a dealbreaker, but I'm curious of how it plays as a class versus the other two.
I'm looking for something a bit different, obviously, in considering Mage for DAII. Though there are two further considerations if I do go Mage. For one thing, when I replayed DAO, I made sure to be a paragon of justice and do all the "good" things. However, in my own role-playing head, I associate Mages with "evil." I don't recall much of DAII, to be honest, but I do remember the Chantry (I think it was) thinking Mages were also evil (if not confined to the Circle). So I actually had the idea of, well what if I play DA2 as an evil Mage? My original intent was to have a DAO/DA2 import with the best (read: all "good") timeline and play that way in DAI as well. But I don't know what happens in DAI yet and, while that's fine, I wonder about the effects of an all-good DAO and a pure evil DA2 import. I don't even know if you play DAI as someone completely new again or if it's somehow a continuation of your DA2 character.
The second consideration is if I should play wait to play as Mage in DAI. I know next to nothing about the game but, by its title, I infer it has something to do with a move against Mages. If that's true, then perhaps playing as a Mage there could be a different perspective. And of course there's no reason I can't play as a Mage for both DA2 and DAI but I could also play all three classes in the three games (if its a different character in the third as well). Then again, I played as Rogue my last time through DA2. Maybe Mage in DA2, Rogue in DAI? Vice Versa? Interested in input, from both a story point of view and a "fun gameplay" point of view ![]()
TL;DR Version
So, basically, I don't know:
1) Whether or not to play a Mage in DA2 or in DAI
2) Do Mages do AoE moves that hurt your own players (even on Easy)? Do they suck or are they viable and fun to play as?
3) Continuing with the ultra-good DAO import, should I likewise play an ultra-good character in DAII, or go for a scorched earth DA2 playthrough to juxtapose with my DAO? Without directly spoiling DAI plot elements, can anyone speak to how this would affect DAI?
I had read somewhere before that what happens in DA2 affects DAI more than DAO, so I'm trying to prepare and get everything right. In the end, I suppose I could always just edit the Keep tapestry but knowing in advance also helps.
Thanks in advance for any tips!
