Can we just say this? DA:I is the best RPG I have ever played.

I doubt you could fulfill all expectations people had but I am pleased to have the chance to "play" in a Dragon Age setting and it was nice to see the development of some characters, story lines and elaboration of ideas of culture. The own your own castle theme has been done before, but Skyhold was vastly better than what has come before, I suspect its a kind of character like the Normandy ship from Mass Effect, a place for the player to see as "home" and a central point in the story. I would have liked to have done more with the dungeon but all things considered that is probably for the best. I can only imagine what players .. ah anyway. The NPC companion characters tend to represent particular issues and approaches to things in the Dragon Age setting and some of the story lines are particularly striking and show psychological insight. Reading the notes of the Red Templars does tend to humanize them and convey a sense of tragedy. Its better than I would have anticipated and realistically is a current high point in RPGs, which of course will be topped in the future as all previous high points have.

The problem is that the upgrades in Skyhold are pointless. The upgrades for the Normandy are vital.

Exactly; but one should not have to have a mechanical reason to perform an upgrade, as RP is what should be the literal center of the game (ie; cRPg). It is great when such choices are beneficial to the story (eg; DAA, NWN2, garden in DAI), but I also find the simple reasons like cleaning, organization, beautification, and many other motivations that may not be my own are included; not just gaining perks.

If treating LGBT characters with respect (regarding to their sexuality and gender identity) is considered an activism, then so be it, and I would gladly support Bioware.
 
It just feels doubly great when I know that I buy a game I happen to enjoy very much, and that the money I spend is going to a company that supports good causes.  
 
@OP, I actually find a lot of criticism in the forum to have some merits, but yes DAI is definitely one of the best games I've played. And your post is spot on the strength of DAI.


But the thing is, without going into an unwise side discussion, I also support Bioware and believe in treating these and other like topics with maturity and respect, even though I may disagree with them.

Where I see strengths is how these topics are presented in Bioware titles (eg; rape, murder, etc) as opposed to many other games, and they also remain optional. So when I disagree with such a choice for whatever reason (ie; personal or simply a RP choice for that PC persona), control is still granted to the Player.

It is when these differences are not presented in a respectful manner to my beliefs, seem immature, and are not placed in the control of the Player that I tend to balk, and skip the title altogether. Or at least in the case of certain offending characters, I am able to sideline them for future play (eg; Blackwall, Iron Bull, Sera, Jack, Zhaeed, etc for use of profanity).

Bah, yet another poster who feels the need to decide what criticism is "objectively (un)warranted".
 
Look, for you it's the best RPG you've ever played, which is about as spongy a statement as can be, but whatever -- that's great. I'm truly happy for you.
 
The Bioware team has done incredibly good work in level design, graphics, and audio. That's as far as my agreement goes. The rest of the game -- which sadly comprises the far more important parts such as (story / character) writing, game design, lore, etc. -- is just about average (if we're kind about it), and certainly not "the best". I'm not going to make yet another list of the numerous issues the game has; we have had fantastic threads on this board already that go far beyond your ridiculously narrow perception, e.g. http://forum.bioware...-this-isnt-you/, http://forum.bioware...nd-suggestions/, http://forum.bioware...hout-prejudice/, http://forum.bioware...-list-opinions/, just to name a few.

Edit/PS: On a very personal and serious note, DA:I has almost brought tears to my eyes. The brilliant, memorable moments of excellent writing (I can remember so many scenes from previous DA titles or from ME almost verbatim, because they were so good!) have given way to a bland mush that left me uninspired, hollow even. When I read statements by the Bioware executives that a- they want to do even "more Skyrim", which shows a shocking disregard for their very own traditional strengths, and that b- they still think DA:I is "too difficult" and needs further pruning, I just want to switch off my PC altogether. I'm honestly dejected that after almost 20 years 'together', shaped by NWN (esp. HotU), DAx, MEx and others, my favourite game studio and I are going separate ways. Still, even though they/you probably won't read this: Thank you for those 20 years, Bioware. They were awesome. "Had to be you -- somebody else would have gotten it wrong."
