Can we just say this? DA:I is the best RPG I have ever played.

It's a role-playing game. You played a role - the Herald/Inquisitor.
That is not what an rpg is, no. In an rpg you create your own character and role. You don't play a character someone else has made for you. By your logic Super Mario is an rpg since you play a role - the plumber.

Because I like a game doesn't mean it's perfect and certainly doesn't mean I shouldn't make the devs know what they did wrong, ESPECIALLY in a place made expressly for that purpose. These forums, and even more so the "Feedback & Suggestions" (which should say enough as to what it's made for) is the place where people go to voice what they think could be improved on, not to fan-gasm over the lackluster work of their favorite company.
If you can't endure valid criticism, well you are most welcome to go to some other board/forum where I'm sure people will gladly indulge in circle-jerking and other Bioware praising activities.
See, I specifically said that I agree with criticism and that I have made trenchant criticism of my own. You're part of the problem.
The board is called "Feedback". That includes positive feedback. I don't really see much on these boards telling the devs what went RIGHT in the game, what we appreciated and would like to see more of in the future.
I just see fools like you talking about circle-jerking and fan-gasms. You think that's creating a community anyone wants to be a part of?

"Can we just say this? DA:I is the best RPG I have ever played "
You can say it, 'we' can be discussed.
Best RPG I've played? Contenders would be something like Planescape Torment, Ultima VII (Black Gate), Baldur's Gate II, KoTOR, Vampire Bloodlines (modded), Mass Effect, Fallout 2, Deus Ex and Dragon Age Origins.
Inquisition is good, but far from the best I've played, though I do really do like the environments, music and characters
Oh and Dragon fights! They're awesome ![]()

Damn. Your top rpg list is pretty much the same as mine. I'd toss Might and Magic 6 and Betrayal at Krondor in there too, though.

Why can I only like this post once? Some absolute masterpieces in that list. U7:TBG is still one of my all time favorites. A game far ahead of its time.

All things considered, this is to me the worst game in the series, mostly let down by the lack of creativity in the plot. It's just....boring.

U7 was mind-blowing, really. The amount of interactivity in that open world is just staggering. A pretty damn dark game too.

I never got around to M&M but did sink plenty of time into BaK. Another great one.

Krondor plays a bit like MM6, I think. Semi open world with a first person view. But combat takes place on an isometric battlefield. Turn based.

I guess if we really want to get really strict and technical, then we should just do away with this whole "RPG" stuff to begin with, since "the plumber" is interchangeable with The Warden, The Champion and The Inquisitor, insofar that this role is an inextricable part of the character.

The warden can have tons of different motivations, backgrounds, personalities and whatnot. That sets him\her apart.

The only difference between the Warden and the rest of them is that the text-based character is more flexible when joined up with our own imagination, not to mention the power of word budget (obviously aside from the other game mechanics like equipment and skillsets). Beyond that, they're all simply an elaborate list of limited presets that we choose from, not determine ourselves, since this medium must take away some level of control from the player in order to work. This is why I don't really take this what-is-an-RPG stuff too seriously.

(sigh)
Inb4 dozens of pages of pointless argument.
DAI - many people like it a lot, others less so and there are legitimate reasons for both views.
RPG - the genre is commonly labelled RPG but purists argue exclusions. Both sides can legitimately argue those positions.

And if we want to go really old, Arcanum. Sadly the graphics and the UI have aged badly, but the story, the options, the writing all blow DA:I out of the water. Twice.

Am I only one who deeply, unconditionally loves Gothic 2?

I'm still looking for game that gives me the same feeling I get when I play Gothic 2. I think I will look for it the rest of my life. First Gothic is gem too, unfortunatelly I can't get it to work with Win7.
I was fortunate Gothic 2 was my first RPG, without it I doubt I would be a gamer (def not someone who has played her favorite games 12 hours a day).

The Gothic series actually flew me by. I tried the first one for an hour or two, but I forgot about the series. Kotor, Nwn2 and Morrowind + Oblivion distracted me.

I didn't like the second instalment because it felt too dark. it wasn't 'Gothic' enough for me as the first part.
Gothic III with a newest community patch is what I do like, too.

Gothic was exceptional (not the 2, the first one), i guess it was first aRPG (i call them first person sword swinger - you know, shooter engine and all that, even if it's third pp actually) i played. hated the combat - still do, but the story/chars/options/rpg meat... mmm delicious.
as for 2nd part - it had its perks, but then again i'm not a fan of action-oriented experience ![]()

Mm....there is a fair amount of valid criticism. I'm not sure it's entirely fair to generalize, in that regard (although yes, some of the complaints are a little ridiculous).
Overall, I enjoyed the game immensely. I played it through twice, trying out some different things, and then started to feel Dragon Age fatigue about half way through my third playthrough (you know it's time to stop when you can quote the characters you're talking to XD)
Also, I don't think there's too many people going "Hair is bad! Return game!". I know I'd like to see a few more styles added, but it in no way undermined the core experience for me (at least until I've played through all the decent hairstyles - my feelings could change if I felt like I was using the same look every other time...)
Overall, some people really liked it, others didn't, some just need to vent. I think it's all good as long as no one is being personally attacked

If Inquisition and DA2 appeared out of thin air with no context behind them, I would probably agree Inquisition is a better game. Marginally. Because of graphics and such, not story.
However, given the circumstances behind the two games, given the circumstances behind Inquisition, I feel confident saying Inquisition is worse. Worse in what it means for the direction BioWare is going. Worse in displaying how BioWare responds to incredibly serious criticisms. Worse in what it demonstrates the writers and other employees and capable of. (And more importantly, aren't capable of.)
Just because it didn't cater to your heroic power fantasy and portray things black and white does not mean it was a bad game.
BW listened seriously to serious criticisms. And they proved that they were definitely capable of making a great game with Dragon Age: Inquisition.
It's a good thing they didn't listen to the criticisms of David7204.

DAI is by far the worst game in the series as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps the best-looking one with very cool mechanics and gameplay systems.
But as far as imaginative story content goes, this falls far short of DAO and DA2.
This game is HOLLOW.
