Can we just say this? DA:I is the best RPG I have ever played.

And what funny and sad at the same time SWTOR is much better doing what DA fails. In swtor class story's actually connected to world story.

So much this. I'm currently heavily into playing SWTOR again, and despite it being an MMO and despite it having a lot of repetitive content, it still has ten times the impact DA:I has on me. Most of the storylines are engaging, emotional, and pose interesting challenges that go beyond mere gameplay, etc. The sith warrior, inquisitor, imperial agent, and jedi knight storylines provided unforgettable experiences, and I find myself replaying them even though I'm almost at legacy level 50 -- and that is without ops or heavy grinding. And I'm not even talking about gameplay mechanics which feel lightyears ahead of DA:I in responsiveness, comfort/flow and variance.

(That said, the Republic-side storylines more often than not make me want to puke rainbows, so I'm solidly planted in Empire territory, but still -- they manage to make me feel and think. Unlike DA:I. And some classes *are* forgettable -- jedi sage, and bounty hunter come to mind. Urgh.)

DAI is by far the worst game in the series as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps the best-looking one with very cool mechanics and gameplay systems.

But as far as imaginative story content goes, this falls far short of DAO and DA2.

This game is HOLLOW.

Yep poorest game of the the games so far imo.

SW:TOR is fantastic and contains so much about what I loved of BioWare's previous RPGs.  Would have loved to seen it succeed as both an MMO and game that offers some of the best singleplayer character storylines ever.  Shame so many didn't want to give it a chance and weren't patient by holding to the same expectation and bar as WoW(which wasn't perfect at vanilla release itself, but had 6-7 years of post-release development over TOR).

Would have been awesome, though unrealistic, to see DA:I with it's large, open zones to have the same character storyline, quest, and other zone contents that TOR offered.  They ended up losing money over the high costs of this development model, though   :(

Aww that's cute.

Namea, you want to just go ahead and quietly add people like that to your ignore list. Not worth your time or effort.

I'm pretty much the same offline as I am online.  Only offline, I tend to curse like a sailor.  The more tired I am, the more likely the f-bomb is going to come out after every other word.

Years ago I dated a girl from Spain who, when angry enough at me, would start cursing me in a mixture of English, Spanish and Italian.  I guess one language was simply insufficient to contain her ire.  Lol.

I've often wondered though, what does a sober sailor curse like?  :)

It isn't. Why is it so hard for people to realize that this game can also be loved?

My favourite RPG of all time is Chrono Trigger.

Go deal with that, you elitists.

I find it baffling so many people think DA:O story is stellar. Compared to Chrono Trigger that game's story is laughably generic.

I know right? I actually adore Inquisition. I must be some demented deviant. The nun in Catholic school predicted that this would happen!

Chrono Trigger is a good RPG, and you know, good old Feargus from Obsidian actually mentions Chrono Trigger as an RPG franchise he would love to work on B)

Edit: I also find Inquisition a good RPG, but a very different type of RPG where I expected something else based upon Origins and DA2. For one I expected custom tactics from the two previous games, those settings were awesome *dreamy look*

That's just what I mean. "The hairstyle controversy" seems quite trivial to me compared to the ridiculous amount of work that is evident in every other aspect of the game. We're talking about fully customised outfits for every party member for almost every kind of armour. Far, FAR more dialogue and meaningful conversation choices. A completely fixed loot system compared to DA:O and DA2. A fully featured equipment customisation suite that rivals Skyrim and far outstrips anything Bioware has done before. These are massive parts of the game.

It boggles the mind that people get so fixated on what are really quite tiny gaps in the graphical assets for the game (why only one set of pyjamas for Skyhold, why only X amount of hairstyles, etc.) when almost every other kind of content has been increased by orders of magnitude.

You're right, it is legitimate to criticise aspects like the insufficient hairstyles. I personally have criticised the Skyhold outfit a lot, as I think you're wearing it for too much of the game for it to look that terrible.

But for me, in the context of the game as a whole, it's a tiny gripe.

I get that it's not going to be everyone's favourite RPG, because I fully understand the special place some RPGs can occupy in our hearts, especially if they were the first big one we embarked on (that's what BG2 was for me). I just wanted this to be a thread where people could come and say that they actually loved this game, because I'm seeing an astonishing amount of negativity about the game, much of it objectively unwarranted.

It boggles your mind that people who are not you do not completely love the parts of the game you consider masterpieces? Well that tells me everything I need to know about your ability to be objective. You're a lover; just as obnoxious and odious as haters.

It isn't. Why is it so hard for people to realize that this game can also be loved?

Consider, for a moment, why it's so difficult for people to realize it's not great and you might glean the answer to your question.

It's the way DA:O's story was presented and delivered that made it memorable.  I can go through parts of the story right now, still get chills from it and be motivated to push forward and see it through to the end.  If you want to draw lines to CT(which i loved myself), the DA:I you're defending is a joke and falls to the bottom of the ocean in comparision.  Yeah there's a few moments where the story is amazing, but for the most part it it was an overall disappointment and didn't do the series justice.

I used, my PS3 Inquisition disk to put my coffee on, and I even let my smoker friend, dab out his, smokes on it. That is how bad the game is to me.

@Dreamer:

I already read a lot of hatred coming this way, for various reasons. Haters can't seem to comprehend why people actually like this game and they pass their time coming on positive threads to ruin people fun. DA2 divided the fandom and DAI divided it even more. Still, believe it or not, some people here actually LOVE Dragon Age: Inquisition even with some of its flaws.

How it was presented?

Are you kidding me? The presentation in DA:I is so much better than in DA:O.

In fact, I prefer PoE's presentation over DA:O's. And lets not pretend here PoE's presentation is stellar either. Sometimes the flavour text and what the voice actor actually says don't even seem to match properly.

... wut? What 'presentation' in DA:I? Define please, because I think we are talking about completely different things.

You can't possibly mean the nuanced, careful expositions that DA:O had (Morrigan intro), the lovingly-crafted party banter that helped establish your companions' personalities (pick any really, but I'll never forget Alistair/Wynne or Morrigan/Alistair, or my favourite in DA2: Merrill/Isabela), or simply the cutscenes that inspired awe or fear (deep roads: arch demon first visual, or even in DA:2, Flemeth scenes). Because compared to that, what we get in DA:I is about as interesting to watch/read as paper towel poetry.

I can tell you many points and examples of what makes me enjoy DA:O's story over DA:I's.  Origin stories, Ostagar, Landsmeet, stories surrounding the quests to gather allies.  No need for me to go into the details, you should already know them.

As much as i've tried attaching myself to DAI's story(and overall gameplay), it's nowhere near appealing to me as BioWare's previous titles.

Why are you telling me about PoE?  Never mentioned Pillars, nor have I played it, nor do I care what you have to say on it.

Chrono trigger has no right to be called an RPG. It might be a great game but it's not a ROLE PLAYING game. You're playing someone else's character with no options even to customize his looks or even gender. You're playing someone else's story with no input whatsoever and just following along and fighting occasionally. Not a role-playing game. More like an interactive anime film.

I strongly disagree with you there. RPGs have many roots and believe it or not, JRPGs can be just as good as western RPGs. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be discredited as an RPG, as many people who played it out there call it one of the best RPGs for its time.

In DA:I Hinterlands I spend like 40h doing stuff. I farm so much power I can complete game, get bored expected others regions be better but is the same. Ok I liked Crestwood don't know why it was not so bad as others. I visit only 5 regions get bored and just complete game. And silly me I was scared Coryfish will win because my army is not strong enough.

So the basic problem there was that you ran up your Power score because you didn't know how much you'd need?

There are two ways to role play in a game. Create the character or step into the role of a character. Some posters believe only the first one should apply to cRPGs. The problem is that the second one can equally apply to role playing games whether those posters think so or not.

Alpha Protocol, the Witcher , Chrono Trigger and other games have gamers assume a role whereas some other cRPGS like Icewind Dale, DAO, DA2 and DAI (to an extent) allow gamers to create and play the role.

It comes down to subjective taste. To say one is or is not an cRPG just shows the respective bias of the gamer. I can play both ways depending on the game and the character. If I find a preset character to be interesting I can slip into that role. If the game allows me to create the character that is fine also.

But to say one is inherently superior to the other is a matter of taste.
