If this has been discussed before then I apologise for my shoddy search-fu, but have any of the devs mentioned plans to fix the (staying vague here) elf-specific dialog that should run during the second to last mission?

Be more specific. This might just be a case of a Dalish elf not knowing anything, like most Dalish elves. I haven't played an elf yet, so I don't know what you're referring to, but I have played as a human.

I think it's the Dalish elf asking who Mythal is and such (which she should definitely know, she can even have a vallaslin to represent Mythal).

Yup, that's it (soz, was trying to avoid spoilers).

I don't even remember this in my human playthrough. Who does the Inquisitor ask about this? Also, could it just be a case of the Inquisitor wanting to know what the other person thinks?

Morrigan. She also translates the elven writings for you even if you are an elf.

Well Morrigan's translation can be explained. The inscription would be similar to the ancient elven writings. Only someone like Solas would know it, as he confirms if he's in the party.
As for asking Morrigan, I think that would just be a case of the Inquisitor wanting to know what Morrigan thinks. So this is when the party is looking at the mosaic wall art in the temple, right?

Morrigan: If your scout report accurately, I believe these ruins to be the temple of Mythal
Inquisitor: which is? (automatic, not a dialogue choice)
Morrigan: A place of worship out of elven legend.
There are other places in this mission where your elf acts like they don't know who the elven gods are at all and Morrigan gives you lectures on them.
Edit a lot of the other ones are dialogue choices but it would nice if they changed it from being a "who/what is this" type questions to "what do you know/think about this" if you are an elf so you can get more lore as a player and get Morrigan's opinion without making it seem like your character slept through all their own history and lore. It's a bit odd because you get elf specific dialogue relating to the gods after Morrigan starts talking about them but the initial dialogue to start that conversation doesn't fit.

I thought they fixed it. :/ My last play through my Dalish elf didn't have the option to ask who Mythal is.
Ohh, time to load up an old save - thanks!

I agree with the second part, but asking "Which is?" could be interpreted to mean, "What was the purpose of this temple?".

That still doesn't make sense. You know who Mythal is and the purpose of a temple is as a place to do religious practices and to worship the patron god of that temple. The name is self explanatory.

To be fair, the Dalish PC might not know ancient elven writing, whereas Morrigan studied it. I do agree that the rest of the questions seem kinda stupid coming from a Dalish.

Not so. The temple was actually akin to a courtroom. Elves would go there to invoke Mythal's judgment and retribution against those who wronged them. The alter was a place of worship and veneration. This difference is explained by the Inquisitor if you go to the alter.

It wasn't a huge deal, but her knowing more about elven language and culture than the elven PC did give Morrigan a Mary-Sue vibe for me (and I'm someone who absolutely loved her in Origins).

But isn't that only if she drinks from the well? Otherwise it's the Inquisitor who reads it.

It's before they get to the well, on a tablet or something when you first get into the temple. It's how she knows about the "petitioner's path."

Posté 29 mars 2015 - 06:48
Oh that. Well she couldn't understand all of it, but she got the basic meaning, and I think this is only because she studied Flemeth's Grimoires. She also studied the book kept by Ariane's clan. Even Ariane didn't know all that much about the elven words.

I'm sure my Dalish elf also tries to make out the writing and says something, so it's not like they know nothing. It's just like trying to read Ancient [insert your native language here], unless you've studied it you're probably not going to understand much.
Edit: Watching it again and I think this bit is OK. If you're elven then you're the one who reads the bit about the Well, Morrigan just mutters about knowledge.

It might have been fixed (haven't played through that area in a while), but I also recall my elf asking questions like "So who was this Mythal?" and it was kind of a facepalm moment. My major issue was the usage of "this__" which made Mythal seem like a totally foreign concept to my Inquisitor. Not "Who was Mythal?" or "What was Mythal?" but "So this Mythal" >_>
I know there are new players who are coming into the series with this game, but I feel like Bioware could assume most of the audience has a working knowledge of this stuff. And (correct me if I'm wrong), but isn't this stuff in the codex entries too? Like they're there for a reason. If a new player's first opportunity to read up on Dalish lore is after the temple, that's a wonky design choice, in my opinion.

Yes i remember this as it was a part of the game i very much enjoyed, but being a Carta Dwarven Female i could easily over look not being well versed in ancient Elven lore, but being a Dalish elf i'd feel totally different i guess..

The Dalish Inquisitor knows enough to scold Solas in elven, and know what his spirit friend says to him. I just really didn't like Morrigan being the expert on the inquisitor's own language and culture. I think it definitely could have been presented better. Like I said it wasn't a huge deal, just kind of weird and annoying.

Can't argue with that.
