I'm PS4 (as are a lot of the BW team.  Even those who don't have both consoles and a PC)

A timed exclusive deal for EA/XBox One for this DLC doesn't bother me.  I still have to finish my Qunari playthrough.  My male 2H warrior playthrough and make a Dwarf to playthrough.  I've got different DA-Keep world states ready for each of them.   (and if I wanted, I could play Bloodborne in the meantime)

I can understand the PS4 frustration(s).  When you want something (and others have it) it's hard to wait. - But timed exclusives have worked both ways since the release of the XB1 and the PS4.

The contractual details of the EA/XB1 deal forbid BW discussing any timeframe for when it will be available to PS4 - but the DLC is coming.
(Things could be worse, it could be an XB1 exclusive, with PS4 never getting it.  That's not the case, for us, it's just delayed..... by <insert time frame>)

As far as I know this is the first time any piece of DA content became exclusive. Small DLC or not this is an outrage. It's like EA is Corypheus and his Demons instigating another war between the Mages (MS) and Templars (Sony). What if all of Mass Effect 4 DLC becomes PlayStation timed exclusive. We can all blame evil Corypheus aka EA.

I believe Aaryn Flynn said in the recent Kotaku interview that they'd be discussing it this coming week.

Personally, I don't give a flying burger patty about The Witcher series... I'm more a JRPG fanboy and I'm waiting for the next niche games that are on the way for 2015-2016.

I have a PS4 and I'm not all that excited by the user comments about the dlc. That said, if I was interested in the DLC, I'd be a bit irritated.

I think there's a difference between timed exclusives for new IP's/games, and time exclusives for sequels or dlc's.  Personally,  if I haven't played a game or an IP, i simply don't care about any of the story elements and if I encounter spoilers online I lack the context to understand them and can easily forget the details and eventually enjoy the story relatively unspoiled. I don't care that Titanfall is an xbone console exclusive, for example. Last gen I was a 360 console player and never cared about Sony exclusive games like uncharted etc. Exclusive IP is fine (not ideal, but fair enough IMO).

However, if you've bought and played a game, and know the characters and are invested in the story/world, then the issue of story spoilers becomes much more troubling. Timed exclusives for dlcs, or sequels (eg tomb raider) means that it is extremely likely that the paying customers who supported the company on the delayed platform are pretty likely to have the story spoiled for them at some point before they ever have the opportunity to play it for themselves. I think that is a big middle-finger to the people who paid just as much for the game as the other players did.

Obviously Microsoft made an offer that EA found to be attractive. But i is nonetheless disappointing that EA lacks any respect for their customers experience of the game and agreed to these kind of terms. To be clear, if Sony had done the same deal with EA, I would disapprove of that too.

I trust this is on-topic.

Compared to this forum, I thought you might like to know one of the Tomb Raider forums
(where they had an ever more extreme exclusivity deal) feels (most posters) that BioWare is responding to the upset really well:

"Its nice to see a studio that knows when to drop the bull**** and address their fans like human beings... too bad the powers behind Tomb Raider dont conduct themselves with the same class and dignity... http://www.gamespot...../1100-6426229/

  • Quote: Just because the first expansion for Dragon Age: Inquisition--Jaws of Hakkon--launched first on Xbox One and PC, doesn't mean it's not coming to PlayStation 4. The content will indeed be released on Sony's new console, and BioWare is planning to announce more details about the PS4 release sometime next week. "Jaws of Hakkon is a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and PC (through Origin). This approach allowed for a lot of support from Microsoft and Origin in launching the DLC, so [it] did have that benefit for the team, and we appreciate the partnership," BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn said. "However, as a timed exclusive, it is definitely coming to the game's other platforms, and based on our internal discussions I expect we'll be announcing more details next week." "I hope no one boycotts the purchase, as it's a pretty fun adventure that WILL be available on all platforms," he added. "That said, everyone is free to vote / message / communicate how they feel, so if that happens it happens. We're definitely paying attention." Quote: The terms of this deal prohibit BioWare from even disclosing the length of the exclusive period.

Yet this doesnt stop them from reassuring PS4 gamers that they will indeed get to play the DLC... Take notes guys.... this is how its done..."

Settle down, Udina. You'll get over it.

Two months isn't too bad considering how other timed exclusivity has been.

Not happy that we have to wait at least another 4 or 5 weeks. Lets hope beginning of May and not the end. Any word on BE? It would appease some of us if it were to come out very shortly.

Probably May...

Just announced that Hakkon DLC won't be available for PS4, PS3, and XBOX 360 until May.

And I would have phrased that:

"Just announced that Hakkon DLC will be available for PS4, PS3, and XBOX 360 in May."

But maybe that just me...
