RNG is quite purvasive in games now. Leading up to: “You can't get want you want...” But I do want to get something I want.

Please introduce alternatives so the player isn't totally dependent on RNG drops: alternate means of acquiring things would also make the game more interesting.

If I can't get that particular fade touched mat (or a second one) why can't I take a hundred or two of the ordinary stuff and trade them in somewhere. Or what about that green thing on my hand; why can't it turn an ordinary mat into a fade-touched one or maybe I can learn or gain a skill that can do it? Or a perk? Or what about the mages; why can't they do something magical? Surely there's a dwarf ready to trade something for a schematic?

Or how about some demon running amok that I track down and make a trade - merely send it back to the fade in exchange for a specific fade-touched mat or the location of a rare schematic?

What's RNG?

Random number generator, I believe.

Yes, the logrithms used for loot drops, chests, etc. and whether you'd get common, uncommon or a rarity. A lottery; a casino. Mass Effect 3 multiplayer used it for the contents of chest you purchased with game experience or cash–a great money maker for EA. Possibly the same thing in DA:I MP but I've never played it.

So you get what you get, not usually what you want, based on a supposed random number generator.

A trade in thing would be cool but no.The whole RNG for schematics is so you don't get everything in game so if you make a new character you will find something new.Schematics are custom made items & they should be the most rare items in game.

I'm not against rarities or doing something that messes up the rarity drops. I'd just like to see alternate means of obtaining or working towards some of these instead of total dependence on RNG. Or even some specific rare items that are not included in the loot drops or chests but offer a means of obtaining it. i.e. while it would be another fetch type quest, it's something a player might really enjoy if the reward was worth it and the quest decent.

I've seen a few people playing elves trying to get some of the rare elven armor and it's not showing up. Yet, I've seen it show up while playing a non-elven character. It doesn't appear that the RNG algorithms take into account which race/class you play.

Another way would be cool but RNG is a way of trying(not a good way)to make sure you fund something you haven't seen before in your last playthrough.I am all for improving it just like I said it is a way to keep finding loot refreshing for more than 1 playthrough.

RNG as a way to add replay value really doesn't make sense to me. All it means is that some playthroughs I'll luck out and get some cool gear, others I'll be down to what schematics the merchants sell because I got about 300 different dagger grips and little else.

I could see it if there was some guaranteed amount of schematics dropping in every playthrough for each class's armour and for each weapon type. Then, okay, replayability. As it stands, it's a game of Will RNGesus Screw Me This Time.

I just wish merchants where a more useful for this. Trading seems so.. off. They never seem to sell anything you might want. It's like Bioware really wanted you to use their crafting system, instead of buying awesome armor & weapons (and in this case crafting items and schematics).

Maybe it's just a thing of mine, but I LOVE it in RPG's when you go out into a new city, find the merchant and buy a great armor or weapon, even though you can barely afford it, and therefore probably shouldn't buy it. It's about the closest thing you get to real life in a game! lol

I know that wasn't really the point of this thread.. but the feeling surfaced.
