As many know recently the Dragon Age Facebook page ran an 'Ultimate Party' contest to determine who was the best three characters from the game, etc.  For various reasons up to the consious of the individuals player's and their opinions.

Well, since I have always had an 'ultimate' party in my playthroughs of both ME and DA this got me to thinking about my ultimate party from the three games and then it got me curious as to everyone else's opinions on the matter.

SO who would be in your ultimate party?  And as always, why?  Is it because of charqacter synergy? Personal preference?  Or tactical and skill reasons?

And since I have an alternate in all my parties, I may be cheating, but never the less.

Cassandra- She is my favorite character in the entire Dragon Age series now after Inquisition.  And perhaps one of my favorite female characters in all of media.  I just love her to bits.  She is a delightful study in contradictions.  She is a warrior woman, yet sexy in her own way and romantic.  Principled, yet willing to challenge herself, faithful, but not blind.  Wonderfully voice acted and wonderfully emotive.  Plus, she also belongs in the most 'handy' companion camp of all of the Companions in a way, her Rally ability in Inquisition was a life saver.  I always got a good chuckle when Solas had max guard because of her.  And, she was just a bid arse who took on bosses, dragons, and giants often single handed as my mage engaged from the back ranks or dealt with the minions.  That is until he became a Knight Enchanter and was able to join her on the front ranks...

Dorian Pavus- Dorian was a character that was treated with surprising depth and consideration...given the potential for him to be *just* the gay character.  Or *just* a soap box for the writers to comment on 'real world' issues, awkwardly wading through them and trying to connect Thedas and our world together, two worlds with very different societal considerations.  Yet, I feel they were successful.  Plus, while he came off as arrogant and brash he was mostly harmless because he did not believe his own propaganda and had no pretense to 'rule ze world'.  Plus, his Necromancer Specialization was occasionally handy.

Varric Tethras-  Great character.  A constant bro, story teller, rogue, businessman, and archer...that is like all the awesome things rolled into one.  And, he pulled this off successfully.  While I did not like him as much in Inquisition, maybe getting drowned out in the other stellar performances, he was able to hold his own in the group.  Also, sadly he was not good for combat.  But, he was a part of some of the best character moments in the game, and a person I try to emulate.

Anders- He was, an interesting character.  In the unpopular opinion camp I liked his portrayl in DA 2 more then Awakening, though in my first Awawkening play through...I sold him to the Templars.  I did this because, thought he was a bit of a jerk at first....and I thought I read we could recruit him later.  Well, that will teach me for making decisions based on information from the Wiki.  So DA 2 was my first experience in the end.  And, he was a good character.  His character arc and romance was...full of emotion.  He was a libertarian, agan after my own heart, and despite being driven to extreme actions, actions I can hardly agree with...he did it to set his people free, but not free to rule, but free to be equal in the eyes of the law.  Plus, his specilization was cool, though more in the heavy risk but the priiizzee camp.

When it was all on the line in DA:O, I stormed Fort Drakon with Loghain, Zevran, and Morrigan.

Since then Vivienne has become one of my new favorites, so out with Morrigan and in with Viv.

The other two can stay, though.

Cassandra - She's pretty much what Alistair used to be for my Warden. I take her on every single mission and she's never failed me. It helps that she's probably my favorite character in the game, indeed the series.

Dorian - This one is less for his abilities and more for his character, since he's also one of my favorites, but a fire-wielding necromancer is handy enough.

Sera - Easily my favorite archer across the three games so far, she's a top-notch damage dealer and good company for dragon hunting.

alternate: Bethany - A healer force mage. Should've sent a poet. I miss her.

I'll do two, one tactical and one personal:

Tactical:

- Isabela: Dual-dagger assasins in DA2 do ridiculous dmg and have rather good defenses. Enemy back-line wouldn't even see her coming.

- Morrigan: DAO mages are best cause heals. Heal+winter grasp+crushing prison, only skills she needs to destroy her enemies.

- Cassandra: She's tanky, but deals some dmg as well.

- Wynne: Builded as support mage, Solas would have been my first choice if he had heals, but since he doesn't Wynne it is.

Personal:

- My fav companions would be Zevran, Fenris, Dorian and Cassandra, but I don't think Fenris and Dorian in same team would be good idea.. it's probaply even worse than Anders and Fenris in same team. One of them might end up dead, unless Cass stops them.

- Since party needs rogue I will change Varric with Fenris. Zevran, Varric, Dorian and Cassandra should make funny party, poor Cass though! XD

EDIT: For some reason I forgot that Zevran is rogue o.O Maybe because he can't pick locks..actually let me change Varric with Merrill. I think that would make things even more intresting in that party :D So Zevran, Merrill, Dorian and Cassandra. I wonder what Dorian and Cassandra think would think of Merrill.

As hard as it is to pick just 3 from across all 3 titles, I will go with Wynne, Sebastian, and Fenris.  This party not only has good team chemistry, their classes and skills compliment one another very well.  With Wynne focusing on healing magic and Sebasitan providing ranged support (and lockpicking... :)), Fenris is free to charge into the midst of any encounter without fear of being overwhelmed.

If I can have a fourth member to be an alternate, I'll go with Vivienne since she's very powerful and would get along well with everybody else on the team.  And actually, she has a variety of Knight Enchanter abilities that would allow her to substitue for Wynne or Fenris if needed...

I tend to go for LI + best friend + whoever has a good dynamic with the other two.

In DAO, that meant Zevran almost never left the party, since he was my LI 90% of the time. In DA2, the sibling always took the 1st spot, with LI and best friend bumped down to 2nd and 3rd respectively (meaning in MotA, I only Aveline and Varric on rare PTs where the sibling was dead or Hawke was single).

Current party in DAI is: Cassandra (LI), Dorian (best friend) and Sera (funny and useful extra).

That's a tough question.  If we are talking for party based on abilities, picking on person from each game...

Alistair, Varric, Dorian.  If we are talking about people just because I really like them, one from each game... Alistair, Bethany, Dorian.. And even with that I would still like to add Awakenings Anders, Varric, Isabella, Iron Bull, and Cass.  Stop making me choose!

I will say that for my last two PTs I've gone with Cass, Dorian and Sera as my primary party unless I need someone else for approval or a char specific mission. In DA2 I almost always had Aveline, Bethany and Varric/Isabella (split evenly).  I used Anders after Bethany got locked away. In Origins my primary party was Alistair, Morrigan and split between Lelianna/Zevran.

What if all of my favorite characters are mages? /weeps silently

Morrigan/Solas/Dorian. I'll be a knight enchanter. We can make this happen.

Do I get to include myself in this ultimate party?

F!Hawke dual-wield assassin shadow (diplomatic pro-mage)

Alistair

Anders

Dorian

It's a blend of favorite companions based on personality, party balance, and having a representative from each game. And I think they would all get along fine, even if Alistair is a former templar. Diplomatic Hawke will help them :) Anders and Dorian would have interesting things to talk about.

For me it would have to be:

Mage: Solas. I have to admit the mage is the hardest choice. If I was basing this purely on strategy it would have to be Wynne because she was a fantastic healer. I always play as an elemental mage so a healer is really the thing I need. Going on banter I'd have to say Morrigan because she's witty and fabulous and I adore her character. But when it comes down to it, I'm just too intrigued by Solas. He's so different, so fascinating. I didn't do a single mission in Inquisition without him and I suppose for that alone he belongs in my ultimate party.

Rogue: Cole. Mainly because of the banter. I love how he gives you little insights into everything and everyone and his back story is amazing. Loved him in Asunder, loved him in Inquisition and he's really useful in battle too.

Warrior: Alistair. Because he was the cutest and always made me smile. He became king for me in Origins so I hardly saw him in Inquisition which is a shame really... So while I love Iron Bull to bits, he could never compete with my non-swooping cutie. Plus Alistair was a fantastic tank too :)

Sure knock yourself ouy.  And why do I get the feeling that Allistair Dorian would be a lot like Alli and Zev?

As for the other two, I can imagine Anders being all aggressive at first but then they would probably wind up getting along.  "The Templars are all dirty, they trapped mmages and gave us no choice"  "Yes, I know, that is why I left the order".

*NOTED*
My choices are primarily based on how I build these characters, according to my play style. However, I do also have a soft spot for the top three, even though I honestly do like all the characters in the DA Universe.

Based on how I build for combat - across the three games - , my top would be:

1) Warrior - Fenris
I was able to build him with good DPS, and decent survivability with his Tevinter Fugitive spec. Nice AoE talents, and though not as good at causing stagger (bugs aside, that is) as Aveline, he shattered the hell out of frozen baddies. (Cone of Cold was used A LOT! )

2) Rogue - Zevran
This may be a bit of a "cheat" (not really, but....*shrug*). I use the ZevranASAP mod in DAO, so Zev gets built just like my cunning DW dagger rogues (my go-to build for most of my wardens). I can still build him as such, even without the mod (originally had the game on the 360), but it does take longer. However, on the PC with that mod, he tears people to shreds.

3) Mage - Solas
Rift Mage. Dread Wolf. 'Nuff said. B)

I do have an alt group as well. Again, it has much to do with how I build, so obviously this works for me and my play-style.

1) Warrior - Cassandra
She is like the Miranda of DAI. Her Templar spec gives nice buffs to the party, and her focus is good when I have gotten careless with some fights.

2) Rogue - Nathaniel
Awakenings ended up making builds somewhat "God-tiered". Since I was often a DW rogue Warden (and I also liked using Sigrun ;) ), I kept Nathaniel as a kickass ranged DPS'er.

3) Mage - Merrill
After playing DA2 a good number of times, I finally got behind an off-tank/dps build, and she was awesome at it. Her Wrath of the Elvhen, Ensnare, and Stones Throw made her a great off-tank. Since I often set up Fenris as more DPS than tanky, this worked out really well.

Honorable mentions:

DAO
1) Wynne - Great for support. Hands down. (and everyones favorite finger-wagging surrogate mother ;) )
2) Shale - She is a rock. With awesome snark. Fantastic.

DAA
1) Sigrun - Love my DW rogues, and a female dwarf. Much love!
2) Anders - Built him like a Wynne on steroids. Fun and funny.

DA2
1) Aveline - Hands down, one of the best tanks. That lady never KO'd. Like ever. lol!
2) Varric - Bianca is a beast in DA2, and wielded by an awesome dwarf, no less!

DAI
1) Vivienne - KE is just a beast. Simply that.
2) Cole - I know that the AI with DW rogues, can be troublesome at times, but he does wreck havoc and drop easter eggs, left and right.

I didn't post on the last one - that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it  :P

I'd have to go with my favourite characters: Leliana, Isabela and Cassandra. Tactically, it'd be a mess, but I usually play as a mage so it could work out.

For each game, I usually do what others have mentioned: LI, best friend, whoever else works best as a third. In DAO, that was usually Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair. DA2 was Isabela, Aveline and Carver/Varric. DAI is tougher but Cassandra's always there and Varric usually is, too. Maybe Dorian for third? Or Sera.

In DA 2 and DA O you could easily have two different rogues, one focusing on lockpicking, one focusing on damage, daggers, bows, stealth...kick buttness.

Combat (the ones I think would be ideal for combat, not necessarily the only ones that can fight):

Blackwall: He just doesn't die thanks to Walking Fortress.  Also really good at blocking paths and funneling enemies down certain paths.

Varric: Elemental Mines.

Solas: He seems to be the best support mage overall.  If I wanted a damage mage, I'd be stuck between Morrigan and Vivienne.

Personal preference:

Alistair: He's my favorite character in DA:O; maybe the entire trilogy.  He's a definite keeper in my party.

Cole: He's Cole.  Would definitely lead to some very interesting banter.

Bethany: I'll admit it, I have a bit of a thing for her.   :P  Easily my favorite female character in the entire series.

Alistair, Cole, and Bethany could work well as a party combat-wise too, though maybe not as well as Blackwall, Varric, and Solas.  Still, Alistair, Cole, and Bethany FTW!   :D

I think the only game that had truly fantastic synergy among all three companions was DA2 with Anders, Merrill, and Fenris; mainly because they all disliked each other. It was funny.

For me it would be Mage Hawke, Dorian, and Varric. Then I'd have to have Alistair and Cass fight over the last spot because I can never choose between them ><
