Same here.

Stuff like this shouldn't be anything exceptional in rpgs, though. Seriously. Its what the whole genre is about. It should be something that is standard in rpgs. Sadly it isn't. Some devs believe roleplaying is only about your role during a fight.

Well many fans of the genre play PnP games as well and there it is - as we all know - the most normal thing to come across.

Which would be why it is indeed a good question why most dev-studios tend to treat it like a "stepchild"?

(Hopefully nobody in here is a stepchild ... ^_^)

The vocal fanbase, apparently. Here's a tip for the the people calling others idiots in this thread: that's how things stay niche. Nobody has an interest in it except people who already love those games, but others might if the fanbase presented themselves as more welcoming and less douchey.

And yes, I joined in on the name-calling. Yes, you're a douche for calling people who don't like iso cRPGs idiots who can't read.

Well you could act more relaxed, too, my dear :o

Internet communication is not perfect! And since when was it ever any better on the BSN - huh?

I enjoyed DAO, I just hate reading. It's lazy I know, but I prefer when video games have voice narrators/characters.
Was born in 1987, so I'm not actually that young.

Reading this made me feel really old.

yes, and sadly it is the exception now. Had such a surge in JOY with selecting my character-home, skills, attributes, class and leveling up it just fantastic. And going into battle I have to think - haven't had to do that in a while - been waiting for a game like this.

Still shaking my head over DAI - its a okay game but could have been so much more.

You know what they say about age, it's just a matter of perception. You could be sixty and still feel young as a teenager. Doesn't matter how old we are, we just got different tastes and it's all that should matter.

And it was awesome to create your backstory will talking to Calisca, and have the game write your biography according to the conversation and your adventures from then on. So much choice in social backgrounds too. I was floored when I found that I even got to pick from very different orders of paladins and such.

Word!

Though I shouldn't had mentioned my age... I ruin my point that way... *snaps fingers* Anyways, it does explain where I'm coming from I figure. I never had a PC growing up, always been with good ol' Nintendo until I switched to PlayStation.

I know I can't wait to see how everything plays out.

In the notes it states if you play as a Paladin making certain choices in dialog may not be such a good idea and may impact dialog choices. Huge smile on my face when I saw that.

I've barely begun and already the world is alive and feels real- had to take a quick break though- been playing for better part of day ;)

@Teddie Sage

Naaa!

We are 7.2 Billion people on this planet - EVERYONE is different!

And any BSN-member with an open mind understands that just fine.

(Never let any "brick-head" discourage you in any way. Say what you want and how you want to say it! And if anyone ever gives you trouble - ignore it! Because you are not alone on the BSN ... with your assessment about the character of your attacker ... ;))

The devs shouldn't have marketed DA as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, then. That is exactly the reason why people expected DA to be very much like Pillars or BG.

To be fair, DA:O was marketed this way.

DA:I, on the other hand, had Cameron Lee saying pre-release "Gaming's moved on from Neverwinter Nights, we've moved on from Baldur's Gate,"... so the tone was very different for Inquisition. It was officially marketed as the Dragon Age game that wanted nothing to do with Baldur's Gate.

The argument against text-based dialogue is actually pretty ironic.

You know what else I like about Pillars?

It has a gorgeous soundtrack... AND IT ACTUALLY PLAYS DURING THE GAME.

This board's always been pretty thick with (unintentional!) irony.

And you can pick where in the world you come from, and your origin. Both have impact on the game. Tons of various combinations.

This is what they could have done with the Keep; a character and origin creator to connect you to the game. I know very little about the character I pick. I would have thought each character/race/class would have had some built in perk as well as an advantage/disadvantage.

From the Trevelyan noble family of Ostwick, wouldn't I already have Nobility Knowledge and History? While a Qunari would not have those.

Which was BW's way of saying to it's original customers - "I don't think we should see each other any more...it's not you, the other market has a larger package." ;)

POE is one of those that keeps you up until c0ck strikes.  The story along with it' s lore really drag me in and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Well, loyalty has never been a very strong point in Dragon Age.

Andraste cheated on her husband.

Mythal was cheated by someone.

Flemeth cheated on her husband.

Fen'Harel practically lied to almost everyone.

Thom Rainier lied to everyone until he decided to own up to it.

Iron Bull's is a spy and his qunari name is Hissrad, a liar.

In a game franchise that is chock full of disloyalty and opportunism, what can you expect from the developer who developed that franchise ? Just saying...

Graphics aside, I am wondering if even The Witcher 3 can top the roleplaying options from Pillars. I have a suspicion it won't even come close (even if it will be a superb game on its own rights).

That is how quests should be. A good quest is something you do because you really want to know what happens next. Not an empty chore you do for a few coins and 100 XP.
