Has anybody checked out Pillars of Eternity....one word...amazing

And this is why PoE and most likely, The Witcher 3, will be huge successes as RPG games. They have the right kind of CONTENT.
DAI has already been a huge success.
I hope TW3 and PoE are also hugely successful but that is yet to be proved.
DAI would have no possibility to get GOTY or even rpg of the year if it was released in 2015
Please do not confuse 'facts' and 'opinions', they are not the same thing.

Pillars of Eternity is like a revisit to Black Isle / Bioware's infinity engine games, I love it!
And there are like 70 spells to choose from
Yes, I'm looking at you Inquisition. While your 20 spells look awesome, I'd have preferred a bigger selection.

Don't worry Teddie. It's fine wanting voice actors.
I prefer voice actors because of my reading comprehension. I need to read texts properly (more so than regular) to understand it and it can make my head hurt after a long session. It's easier and better for me to understand when someone is reading for me, whether it be voice actors or audiobooks.
I haven't played this game so I can't comment on the reading, but I find Inquisition to be easy breezy because of the short bursts it gives me. Maybe this game is also good, I don't know before I play it.

I've been following the development for a past couple of years, so I'm really looking forward to it, especially since its getting such positive reviews. I'm absolutely getting it next week (when my new PC arrives). Hopefully it will scratch the itch that DAI failed to relieve.

I enjoyed DAO, I just hate reading. It's lazy I know, but I prefer when video games have voice narrators/characters.
Was born in 1987, so I'm not actually that young.
You must have spent a good portion of your gaming life without much voice in your games..

This is true, and them releasing it when they did was obviously a strategic move.
This thread, should be probably be moved to scuttlebutt

one of the best parts of Pillars of eternity..i want this for inquisition...
"Attacks are the most potentially dangerous of all stronghold events. Occasionally troublemakers (of various sorts) will decide to attack your castle. You will be warned ahead of time of any such attack, so you can return to the stronghold and take part in it directly, if you want. Otherwise, the attack is simulated and you are told the results. A well-defended stronghold can repel any but the most concerted attacks, but there is always a chance of damage which can destroy upgrades, kill hirelings, and cost money. The threat of attacks is the most important reason to keep your security level as high as you can afford."

This reminds me X-Com is cheap now... I should try it someday... Not sure I will like it, but it's cheap, come on.
Writing from a phone here...
If you are open to try x-com i think you should try poe! You might be surprised how very much involved you can get into the gameplay once you actually play it
All you need to do is to figure out how the character creation and the combat works ... Then you are fine ![]()

So....have you heard of youtube? The place with the walkthroughs and reviews and hours of pure gameplay? You don't need to play a game to know if its your thing or not, which is great because otherwise we'd all waste so much money on games we would hate.
This is partialy true. While gameplay videos can give you insight into aesthetics and general gameplay , watching them can never replace that feeling of actually playing a game. I mean, the obvious example is DA:I.

Doesn't sound like something I would even think of playing. I'll just stick to my Dragon Age series until another game pulls at my interest.

I like Bioware games and enjoy having a voiced protagonist. I also like what I've read of PoE and want to buy it. I also want to buy The Witcher 3 despite struggling through the first game.

Pft those game of the year awards hardly mean anything.

That's not true. It gives the publishers an excuse to put out a "Game of the Year" Edition, with some token DLC tacked on for a premium price.

Why couldn't DA 3 be like this??
Because if it were, it would have sold a fraction of what it did and royally pissed off even more of its fanbase.
From the time Origins was released, Dragon Age has always been a series with massive, wide-ranged appeal, designed so that everyone from hardcore D&D nerds to "I'm just in it for the story" casuals can pick it up and find something in there they like. Pillars of Eternity, on the other hand, is a game designed specifically to cater to the fans of traditional, isometric RPGs and no one else. It may be great at what it does--fantastic even--but what it does is only appealing for a niche market of gamers and elicits a giant, collective yawn from everyone else. Seeing how massive the outpouring of "MAKE IT MORE CINEMATIC!!" was for Inquisition, I couldn't bear to imagine how worse it would have been if the game had been like this.

Yes and I hated it, specially in games that were text heavy. Battles didn't bother me so much but whever I was playing a game when characters wouldn't speak, I would often skip texts because I was easily bored and just wanted to play the game itself. I prefer my game with voice acting now.

Sorry if my opinion doesn't join yours people, it looks like it belongs in the 90s and should remain there. Too much stuff to read, barely any voice acting and slow sort of gameplay. Not my cup of tea. Like, it's cool if people like it, but to me who never been a PC player, I don't understand the hype and the nostalgia. I don't understand how people enjoy this type of game which is too slow and forces you to read for hours stuff that pop on the screen. If I wanted to read something, I'd open up a book. "Believe it or not, this is the type of game BioWare used to make," someone will tell me. Well, guess what... I'm glad they stopped.
I'm sorry reading is so hard for you.

I'm not a fan of the isometric view these days. I guess I got burnout from past games over the years which is why I couldn't get into Divinity Original Sin. I'm sure both are good games. The amount of positive reviews at least gives them a strong fan base. It's just 2015 and games need to look more modern to fit my style of play. I know it's not for everyone but that's why I like other types of games like the Tomb Raider reboot, Saints Row, Life is Strange and anything Telltale puts out. To each his own...

I like the old (and new) isometric games as much as I used to. But I do like the Telltale games and the others you listed up as well.

I'm sorry reading is so hard for you.
More like, it's tedious and boring to read stuff in video games. That's just my personal belief, if you think its right to ridicule me, go ahead. I'm not playing my games to read books in them, I'm playing my games to play my characters. Reading walls of texts in a video game, in 2015 isn't my definition of fun.
