Anyway, now I've updated DirectX and have reinstalled both ME1 (unpatched) and ME2. When ME2 starts, I don't see any ME1 saved games that I could import. When I look under %USERPROFILE%\\Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save there's only 1 file called Profile.MassEffectProfile. Are my ME1 saved games completely gone?
I think I deleted my ME1 saved games when I uninstalled ME2

When I first installed ME2, I got a "cannot find d3d*.dll" error. I uninstalled ME2. During the uninstall, I got a message about the game code getting deactivated but ME2 was still in the Add/Remove Programs control panel applet. So to get rid of it I ran the ME2 installer from Disk One using AutoPlay and then selected Uninstall. This time ME2 got removed from the Add/Remove Programs. Then I realized that ME1 was also removed from my PC because its icon was not in the Games for Windows explorer window. I did not expect that.
