I can say I enjoyed it for what it was. Wouldn't call it outstanding or awe-inspiring, but it was fine.
Why I'm loving Jaws of Hakkon

Thanks mods!
Whether you like or dislike the game nobody deserves abuse like that.

Biggest gripe was I couldn't sentence the bear to be in my inner council. Or at least my mount.

Thanks for the review! I was leaning toward not getting it based on the user reviews I've seen so far but this is making me reconsider!

Oh, is this the cozy corner for people, who enjoyed the Jaws of Hakkon? Then I'll rest here shortly.
I liked it (but then, I liked the vanilla game).
I thought the main zone story was much stronger than in the vanilla game (Crestwood came close, but not quite) and also the other side quests connected well with that main quest. The result for me was a more "organic" game play. My Inquisitor had actually good reasons to do most of those side quests. Yeah, ok, shards - but then, I don't mind them so much.
I was also really glad, I played it with my Lavellan first. She was really pleased with the outcome of this expedition.
Oh, and the War Table missions are funny!

Apparently I missed some awesome posts. I've gotten through about 4 hours of it (I think, anyways) and I'm really enjoying it. I think the level design is gorgeous.

I haven't played it, but I've watched the playthrough vids on youtube from FuzzyNinjaLama, and it definitely looks worth getting.

If you enjoyed fetching blankets, closing oblivion gates fade rifts and gathering shards then it makes sense that you'd love this DLC.
I think everyone agrees on that point.

The DLC was very quick. I finished it in 2 sittings. (all quest, the demon and dragon) Would be nice if it was more than 1 map and a little more challenging.

I actually loved the ending of collecting shards because I finally got a glimpse at The Forgotten Ones. I was excited to discover demystification of Avvar pantheon and loved the spectral dragon exiting Haakon dragon's body (what can I say - I loved The Awakening and spectral dragon there), but finding the actual Forgotten One's trace made my day. Jaws of Haakon is amazing DLC, not 'cause of the new crafting materials or schematics, but 'cause of the bigger picture and the change in it when it comes to 'history' and perspectives. I have to say, it was truly refreshing to get such amount of demystification on 'higher' powers - loved every bit of it.

But do you get any schematics for bear shaped armor?

Nice to see a positive post. I agree with the OP, there is quite a bit of story here and the comparisons to another Hinterlands are unfair. Fans of a certain ancillary character will probably enjoy her extended presence here (I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of this character). The story is a bit of a slow burn. It follows the familiar path of previous Bioware DLCs where a seemingly unassuming quest slowly turns into something much more interesting and threatening. The combat jumps up a level too, with stronger and smarter enemies. I like getting that subtle difficulty spike in a DLC, since by that point I'm usually pretty comfortable with the interface.
As far as value for the money, I'll say the following: I thought Legacy and Shadow Broker were better in terms of story and they were less expensive. That said, Jaws of Hakkon, independent of the rest of the DA:I, is a really fun play-more enjoyable than most full-priced video games I have played. This isn't the add-on that's going to "fix" DA:I for those who did not like it. It is stupid that a large percentage of fans don't have access to it yet (I really hate exclusive deals). But if you generally enjoyed DA:I you will probably really like this one too.

I really enjoyed the expansion I finally had a challenge for my level 24 Lavellan Knight-Enchanter who was before this expansion practically soloing high dragons ![]()
I just wish you could bring up the discoveries about Ameridan with the Advisors, Cassandra, Vivienne, Solas, Keeper Hawen and Mother Giselle in conversations later on. Also I am glad Bioware didn't rush to do an expansion about Solas or the Hero of Ferelden.

Has anyone figured out what happened at the Tevinter ruins? I'm figuring it predates the previous Inquisitor, but I feel like I'm missing something. There are notes that talk about "the silence that devours" and all support ceasing from the Tevinter Empire, but I can't seem to find anything more.

my opinion on this DLC really looks like a parabolla, its on the upswing now.
Don't even talk to me about parobolas. How high did the fish jump my arse, I been dealing with these things for months now.

This isn't so much to do with the DLC, but its connected.
~~~
The recent patch has 'mostly fixed' the game to be more playable on my PC. Less hitching (still a little), less FPS problems (though it could still be better for my specs), and the crashing seems to be at least mostly gone. So I went to play again.
I've now:
-finished up to Abyss in the main story. Holding off on Winter Palace until I'm done a couple more zones and Lv 18ish. So I guess 4/7 done, in how I divide sections of the game (Temple, Mage/Templar, Haven, Wardens, Orlais, Arbor, Cory).
-for the bulk of content in the zones, save for very hidden stuff or dragon areas, I've finished Hinterlands, Storm Coast, Fallow Mire, Forgotten Oasis, Crestwood, most of Western Approach. I have Exulted Plains, Emerald Graves, Hissing Wastes, and Emprise Du Lion left. And of course the end/postgame activities and completionism. So I guess around 5-6/10 done.
All of this to basically say I've gotten around 1/2 through the game, well on my way to 2/3. I now feel, after a few months now, a propulsion forward and more of an eagerness to play. I see the flaws in this game VERY CLEARLY, but I also finally see it playable for myself, and with developer attention (seemed it was dead in Dec-Jan especially, save for MP).
I see JoH and see a goal to reach. That I can finish everything I can, maybe try it all again in a new game with more knowledge of how things work, then put down my money for content that is at least better than what's in the base game. I'm glad there's this stuff to look forward to. It isn't ideal looking content (I've spoiled myself on the main gameplay and story), but its something good (even if maybe overpriced).
I'd like to be ready for DLC by this summer, and ready to pay $15-40 for whatever it released by then. Before this last patch, I'd laugh at the prospect.
Bioware can still do better. I want them to do better. But DAI isn't a bad game. It just needs love. Its been getting some of that needed love over the last month or two, and I hope this doesn't stop as the year progresses. I'd LOVE to see dozens of increasingly quality and fascinating (ATTACK ON SKYHOLD AT SOME POINT HUH?) chapters to the Inquisition's story be added, and I'm willing to pay up to the Base Game price for all of them put together (I guess $60-80). Really. It just needs to be awesome and DAI needs to be continuously supported through quality patches and potentially free feature updates like we've seen a couple of so far.
I've said before that DAI has a great foundation for, well, greatness. JoH doesn't fulfill that, but if its the DLC that was worked on starting DAI-Gold (before launch), then I'm anticipating the caliber of DLC that work started on around now (or Jan-Feb, whatever).
The most bizarre part of all that was somehow Elhanan getting called out by name. Whatever she did to ****** him off, I now respect her a lot more.
Have no idea what happened, but normally I have to date the lass to get this kind of reaction....
As for the topic, good to see some positive feedback; will set aside some coinage to get this DLC a bit later.
