I want to play some engineer(s), but I'm tired of sucking with them. Could you recommend me a build? Note that I'm not asking about the best / most powerful engineers, but the easiest to not suck with. In my book, sucking on Gold is scoring less than 70k and / or extracting in over 24 minutes. I don't mind doing stuff like healing teammates if it doesn't yield points but helps the team kill faster.

It would be ideal if the build doesn't include grenades. If it does, it should be really easy to play.

If you care to respond, please include a brief description of how to play the class if it goes beyond just shooting the gun at whatever is closest and using my abilities to produce power combos.

I've mostly tried GE and QFE so far. They both kinda almost work... but not quite.

HFE

Incinerate+Overload on armor=Fire Explosion

Overload+Incinerate on shields=Tech Burst

Shoot your favourite gun in between. Drop the drone to get rid of aggro. Throw a Cryo ammo on the gun for the novelty of cryo explosions.

Here's a couple of builds you may find worth trying. There may be acknowledged stronger builds out there, but these are both quite easily platinum-viable, so they should work on gold with no trouble.

QFE:

http://kalence.drupa...!34T51364!58A5G

-Throw shock turret into mobs to stun mooks.

-Use Falcon to stun mooks.

-Take advantage of stunning of mooks to use cryo blast + incinerate for explosive fun.

-Can use Incendiary or Disruptor for Explosions, or Cryo for Debuffing.

-Destroys any infantry-type enemy in the game, even phantoms and dragoons.

Human Engineer:

http://kalence.drupa...!34T52334!598BC

-Shoot Scorpion on ground near enemies.

-Behold as enemies stagger and/or become electrified.

-Cast Overload for a mass of tech bursting.

-Cast Incinerate liberally against armor.

-Have a Drone active at all times. If it blows up, great! Cast a new one. That explosion is worth over 900 points of damage and has a cooldown of less than two seconds.

This is my first kit I felt truly comfortable with on gold.

Spec Overload to chain as many as possible.

Human Engineer [Video] - Adas is great CC and ammo primer. Shoot->wait for incendiary proc->Incinerate (overload phantoms or anything that will block projectile powers)->fire explosion. Start each battle by throwing your drone in the middle. It will stagger and detonate fire explosions.

Geth Engineer - Super easy playstyle. Overload->shoot in the head with GPR (for lore reasons). You can actually do quite a bit a damage with this guy. Any assault rifle or shotgun will do (I also use the GPS with incendiary rounds). Use turret for quick healing and setting up level 6 fire explosions.

FQE - Shoot (applies distruptor rounds)->incinerate for tech burst->shoot to finish off mooks. Throw turret for aggro. Cryo blast->shoot->incinerate on armor. The tech bursts give you really good CC and the talon strips shields and applies ammo really well.

Volus - Place recon mine->shoot->prox mine (fire explosion)->shoot->detonate recon mine and move to next spawn. Shield boost when necessary. A good tip, the light melee is a cloak. He has two cooldowns on it, one when activated when walking or standing still, and another when sprinting. So you can light melee (cloak)->run->cloak runs out->light melee while sprinting (cloak again)->cloak runs out->stop sprinting and light melee (standing cloak is now off cooldown)->repeat. You can stay cloaked almost the entire match doing this. It requires some practice and timing. You can shoot in cloak and it will not break, so he can do quick bursts of damage completely hidden. Really good character if you practice with him.

QME, N7 Demolisher

Just spam Arc Grenades and finish them off with their weapons.

Well honestly the QME is pretty easy to play (esp if you have grenade capacity), just spec 6 ranks into Incinerate and Arc grenades (taking the DoT evos wherever possible) then spam the 2 buttons back and forth .. all enemies are now dead. This will alternate between FEs and TBs.

And Gold matches under 24 mins are actually quite fast for a PUG group (well, on PS3 anyways which loses match time to load time compared to PC).

GE is quite powerful when paired with a good priming weapon and incendiary ammo

Salarian Engineer: 6/6/3/5/6, specced for power damage with either a Scorpion (heavy barrel + power mag) or Venom. Use either disrupter or incendiary, use Energy Drain to Tech Burst or strip shields, Incinerate to detonate Fire Explosions or Tech Bursts on health or armor. I'd post links but I'm on mobile.

Human Engineee with Scorpion /Cryo Ammo 4.

Fire explosions / Tech Bursts and Cry explosions. She is true powerhouse. You could actually run 66606.

And if you see adepts in your team, replace Cryo Ammo with disruptor ammo. And laugh like a true team player.

Engie, Vorcha-style (kill it with fire!!!) (can also substitute Reegar for some good old-fashioned Vorcha face-melting)- fun CQC build, if slightly less effective than his Flamer brethren, the idea here is Adrenaline to keep him alive, Raider (and FEs) to keep everything else dead

GPS Geth Engie- I go for Power Amp because I really like having a juicy Overload for banshees, phantoms, pyros, etc. and then Survivor gear to make up for his squishiness- one could substitute Stronghold or even Shield gear, but for my part I find the extra couple ops packs to be the best

Link to the Salarian Engineer I mentioned earlier. You can run either Scorpion or Venom with that, with either Disruptor or Incendiary ammo. Lately I've been opting for the former.

You can also get familiar with the Turian Saboteur Engineer, the Engineer I see played the least. A little tricky with his power set, but he can wreck shop. Sabotage to set up area Tech Bursts, then Homing Grenade to detonate multiple explosions depending on the distance between targets. Dirty.

The guy asked the EASIEST character to not suck with. So, use Vorcha and... Whatch the world burn. Also they regenerate health very fast. What else could you ask for? Just dont think your invincible going for reckless gameplay getting surrounded by enemies.

Vorcha engineer with an acolyte and collector smg will let you be about as lazy as you can be. Take disruptor rounds for tech burst spam with incinerate. I'd say 3 in sub net and 5 in passives (power damage) so you can max out hp, bloodlust, and incinerate. For pesky dodge enemies like phantoms just swap to the acolyte and time sub-net to where it connects as she is staggered from the acolyte. Otherwise spam incinerate. The CSMG means you don't even need to worry about grabbing ammo or reloading (barring the acolyte sidearm). The lancer would work too, but the low recoil of the CSMG is better for laziness.

Use a cobra missile if you really need to kickstart your bloodlust health regen.

Just don't play against geth. He has the offense for it, but vorcha vs geth aren't fun times if you get an open map.

Easiest (and most powerful engineed, imo): QME.

Just spec him like this (pay attention to the consumables and gear). Falcon works as well as Venon (in case you don't have it).

Tactics: Run to a spawn point, fire weapon, incinerate, grenade. Repeat if needed (usually it is not  :)).

All mooks will be staggered/frozen and thus won't hit you. Anything with armor will die in seconds due to cryo/incinerate/grenades. Finish them with Hurricane If needed (I usually use it against Atlas/Banshees/Praetorian only).

You can score easily 120K+ if you are a somewhat decent player. Way more (200K+) when you learn the mechanics and spawn points and use all your Themo packs. Good luck  ;)

The easiest engineer to not suck with...well let's see...they all require a good balance between weapon and power use.

Most kits I recommend will have the Venom. So.

Is your manifest public?

Well, you could try GE - incendiary ammo+overload for fire explosions or QME - incinerate+arc grenades or arc grenades+incinerate for tech explosions(just watch your health, he´s bit fragile when throwing all those things around). Those I would say are easiest. Lancer works well on both, but I don´t know what weapons you do or don´t have.

edit:

builds in case you are interested:)

I've mostly tried GE and QFE so far. They both kinda almost work... but not quite.

If you really want to make those two classes to work, you need right weapon+skill+ammo mod combo.

For GE.

http://kalence.drupa...!34N52364!GG4G5

(ignore weapons in that link)

Weapon combo: GPS or Geth Pulse rifle+scorpion

Ammo mod: Incendiary

Gear bonus: Omni-capacitors with GPS and Comparatives upgrade with GPR and scor

In both cases, you can do lot of tech explosions.

For QFE:

http://kalence.drupa...!23T53333!AE.GG

Yes, no cryo, because it's utterly useless for this build. What you do is hit enemies with distruptor boosted Wraith and then you use incendiary. It's pretty much 99% of guaranteed tech explosion. And wraith is so good shotgun, that you can also kill most of enemies with those two shots. And if you can't, then you can get multiple tech explosions per enemy, thanks to this combo.

With this, everything except Phantoms are easy.

In any case, in my opinion, what makes Engineers so good is not right skill combo. Yes, combos does work really well with biotics and generally there are lower cool downs. But it's slightly worse with tech skills. For example HE incenerate and overload. Both have high enough cool down that you might not get the explosion done every time.

But if you use either incendiary or disruptor ammo and depending on ammo use, then other skill, you can easily get explosions. This is why it's better to use right ammo mods to make tech combos, instead of totally relating your skills.

QME- spec for max radius and shield damage on Arc Nades, spec for armor damage on incinerate. Put on a decent weapon to help with heavies.

Is it shielded or in a group with two or more friends?

If yes, Arc Nade.

Is it still alive?

If yes, Incinerate= Tech Burst+It's now on fire!!!!

Still alive?

Oh dear probably needs MOAR Arc Nades possibly needs to be shot in the dome.

Is it armored and not in group with other **** shooting me?

Incinerate followed by Arc Nade=Fire Explosion.

Arc Nades are the bread and butter of the character not only do they kill shields and health pretty effectively. They also stun wide groups which not only damages but also keeps you from being damaged. If ever in doubt something needs a grenade. Armored targets or anything alive that has been primed by nades can be incinerated for a wide AOE tech burst then naded again for fire explosion. A decent damage weapon with AP rounds should help dispatch anything not devastated by the above suggestions.

Because I'm getting mad at all the incorrect QME builds being thrown around I'll just post the correct one

http://kalence.drupa...!!34O52343!09AG

Stagger weapons and fitness are irrelevant and a waste of time when everything is already staggered or dead from your OP grenades. Burn, electrocute and blow up the mooks, tacscan and headshot everything (read: nothing) that survives with your quarian pistol, then sprint to the next spawn while charge shotting stragglers in the face like a boss (instead of using some horrible frog gun designed for people who can't aim). There isn't a more user friendly and amicable quarian guy to get to know for nubcakes.

On the premise of the thread, I wouldn't actually recommend the QFE due to the fact that she is easily one of the more difficult engineers to play, and I've no idea why people are doing so but anyway here's the correct build: http://kalence.drupa...!!13T53364!F0AG

For QFE:

http://kalence.drupa...!23T53333!AE.GG

no cryo, because it's utterly useless for this build.

This is literally the worst thing I have ever seen and I now have dextro-cancer because of it. Thanks.

I agree that that FQE build is stupid dumb, however, your QME build isn't easy for someone who's trying to get gud to play.

Most pugs don't even know how to use Tac Scan, so fully speccing it is a waste of time.
