It is not about owning the scoreboard. It is about killing things fast, not dying, doing objectives, helping your team, and having fun.

Yes, yes and yes. And doing all that better than the other 3 guys will usually yield you top score. No, I don't care about score one bit, I care about extracting in timely fashion.

With the single exception of ragdolling Phantoms... and for me, that's enough of an exception to spec Concussive. :D

Phantoms and their barriers is exactly what I had in mind when picking concussive arrows. It's not like I'm going to shoot arrows unless I'm out of mines otherwise.

Hey dude, if you're so concerned with score, start playing PvP like I did.

Co-op is not for your e-dong.

If only everyone who played MP understood this.

Personally I use Phaeston or Tempest with my Turian Sentinel.

Oh no, never again. I started playing Cabal with Phaeston. Its damage is too damn low. Yes, I wasn't useless, but far less useful than I could've been.

I even tried Phaeston on Quarksman, damage is still not enough to call it viable.

I'm not even sure if I like Phaeston more than Avenger.

As for single shot weapons - I love Mattock; tried it on Hsol for lulz a long time, ended up being surprised by how fast it kills. My index finger hurts, though.

And Saber doesn't feel right on any character without RoF bonus. It's not a light weapon, either.

I hate the Phaeston.  Too little accuracy to go along with too little power.  Bioware severely over-estimated the capabilities of the AR's when balancing this game.  Almost any SMG other than the Shuriken is at least as good as the Phaeston.

I supposed ragdolling Phantoms is a legit reason to put 3 ranks in Concussive Arrows on the Talon Mercenary, if you really must. Or just use a shotgun main (with +melee attachment) and Acolyte/Scopion sidearm for the Phantoms (and 'Goons).

The Sabre is a fantastic weapon on the Turian Ghost (because TacCloak doesn't care about your cooldown) or the Turian Soldier (because of Marksman to fix the re-fire delay). Also as you rank it up, it does become somewhat lighter: Sabre 1 yields only +95% cooldown while Sabre 10 yields +125%. And as discussed before, anything in the 120%-130% range is going to give acceptable power-shoot-power cycles.

Sabre also goes well on the Quarian Marksman (who can be built as even more of a pure weapon character than the TSol), Geth Engineer (Overload makes for easy(ish) headshots), Asari Adept (Stasis Bubble, headshot; and yes this means less frequent power cycling), Asari Huntress (she doesn't get +weapon damage from her Cloak, but she still doesn't care about weapon weight, so may as well use something stylish and hard-hitting).

Oh yeah, probably the most important thing about the Sabre is its stagger potential. It will stagger enemies 100% of the time (?) if you headshot them (and they're not dead) and about 50% (?) of the time on bodyshots.

I use the GPS almost exclusively on the Talon Merc, so I don't need to worry about Phantoms at all.  I sometimes put points into Concussive Arrows just to increase my grenade cap, but that's about it.  Usually I skip it.

Did it really take until page 2 before someone mentioned Cain mine spamming Talon? The question was easiest engineer to use, right?

It is a glass cannon, I would not call it easy. The most powerful? Yes. Easiest? No.

1) take note of teammate locations
2) spam mines at appropriate spawnpoints
3) hide Talon merc somewhere, go to kitchen and make sandwich/ grab beer
4) "enemies down. good shooting." repeat step 1

you can also consume the sandwich/beer seamlessly at any point in the process

Oh no, never again. I started playing Cabal with Phaeston.

And that's were you went wrong. To be able to use Phaeston effectively, you need to class and character that can easily boost the lagging dmg with explosions. Which why Turian Sentinel is best for it.

Its damage is too damn low. Yes, I wasn't useless, but far less useful than I could've been.

True, Phaeston dmg is rather low. But key to get most of rather lagging dmg is to use with as part of some other combo (like I have said) or shoot at right places. In other words, aim for the head for mooks and weak points with heavier units.

Granted, it can become rather arduous, especially if you have to solo Reapers and Collectors waves 8 and 9. The amount of Preatorians and Banshees and then you Phaeston.

Still, Phaeston is completely gold viable weapon. For that matter, I can think of only few weapons that really ain't gold viable. But that ain't topic of this thread really.

Haven't read the entire thread so it might've been already mentioned but if you know your way around a gun and can headshot reliably, try combining a marksman gun with an overload/ED engineer and go ham on the bad guys. The Saber and Paladin are my favorite tools for the job. That is if the job you're looking forward to do is distributing hate and discontent in the form of high powered rifle slugs to the enemies faces.

Saber Geth engineer

Pally Human engineer

Turian Saboteur with a Saber is a lot of fun. Highly maneuverable with the jetpack, turret to cover your back, and overload to break shields and stagger. A lot of people say it's one of the worse classes in the game, but I find it highly enjoyable.

I was thinking Concussive shot for mine-focused build, so 6/6/0/6/6; or 6/6/3/6/5 for 1 extra grenade.

No fitness for a grenade build. With all capacity upgrades and gear you can carry 19 grenades and at 200% cooldown you get 1 grenade every 15 seconds

Got any other genius thoughts to contribute? Don't hold back!

Hunter doesn't have a flamer, though. If he had, he'd be the best engineer on my list.

Can anyone suggest a Cain mine-centric Talon merc build? Specifically, I don't know whether to take damage or radius at lvl 4 and 6.

Gold or below I would take radius for sure. The mines do a fuckton of damage anyways radius will more effectively catch more enemies inside it's explosion.

But Sabotage works almost as well.

And his fitness tree is only that of a vanilla human, so almost pointless.

JRandall made a post about this recently. Basically, you can add stuff that enhances damage by other means (power amps in this case), but catching more targets is something you can only do in the build tree.

But Sabotage works almost as well.

It's a good stagger power, and does a bit of damage due to Backfire. It's also a great Tech Burst primer, when coupled with Homing Grenades it creates one of the strongest Tech Bursts in the game. Which is why the TSab is one of the best engineers, yet somehow regularly overlooked.

A friend of mine took the same stance always go with radius except on Concussive Shot which has such a low CD that it can be spammed. Radius on non target capped powers (grenades) is generally not only better for killing but also increases survivability with powers like arc nades stunning more small arms units.

Aren't all tech bursts the same as long as they're produced with the same rank primer and detonator?
