That's an awfully wasteful method...

It becomes less wasteful when you have Grenade Gear V and the Talon has 11 grenades (mines) or whatever the exact number is.

max he can carry with gear bonus is 19, thermal clip only returns 10 though. also grenade regen works great

I've had 12 or 13. The point is, throwing 4 mines when you only need 1 leaves you dry very fast.

i use my gun and normal arrows but i like the mines to much to use grenade slot arrows (i love mines in all games proxy or trip)

Against most enemies, AP arrows are much more DPS efficient than mines, actually. A mine does around 5000 damage, while three arrows will do about 6000, without having to spam them or anything. Plus, since arrows benefit from both melee bonuses and power bonuses, their relative DPS increases more rapidly than with other powers. Throwing a pistol with a melee booster and a power booster will increase arrow damage to around 9000 per three, for example, while only increasing mine damage to around 6250. Without wasting mines quick-detonating and allowing you to fire at the same time, as well.

 

And maxed out, three arrows will do around 17.5k damage compared to a mine's max of ~8500. Of course, mines have AoE, but unless you're nuking a spawn, the numbers are pretty clear. 

 

One question for other robin hood users; Is there any reason for using a graal over a GPS? Seems to me the GPS hits a lot more often and works a lot better against Phantoms.

Graal can get head shots and go through guardians mailslots? Less squirrelly at extreme ranges as well.

Haven't done an arrow guy so I couldn't say if your setup already has things that render those advantages moot. Generally speaking they're very evenly matched guns that come down to taste.

If weight is no issue them I'd think the crusader would be even better.

3 arrows would be 3 grenades, 3 mines would be 15000 by your math. its fine if you dont like mine spam just dont say arrows are better (gold/plat)

One "grenade" gives you 3 arrows or one mine. So he's math is not wrong. But Mines do have an area of effect and can be spammed much faster, so things are not as clear cut as you'd think. Unless you take into account that they are mind-numbingly boring. But then again, the Robin Hood style also grew stale on me, so I don't play much the Talon merc.

Max is 3810 if you take both damage evolutions instead of radius (and I don't think you should take both).

I know you are probably trolling here but hover over the damage and look at how much it does to other defenses especially armor.

Just spam arrows, use the shotgun to lower shields on bosses, then use armor-piercing arrows to finish the job. Place mines at choke points. It doesn't get any easier.

With 75s grenade regen rate, might as well skip passive rank 6 in favor of 3 points in concussive arrows.

 

 

hover over the damage and look at how much it does to other defenses especially armor.

Didn't occur to me. I never inspect those figures so I even forgot you can hover them. All I've seen was: "Damage:3810".

Nope, no point. Also, you'd have to change your keybindings if you want to use two kinds of arrows. Talon's still bugged.

True it can. I'll be damned if I can do so with anywhere near same reliability though. I can on average get 1/2 to 1/3 of the darts from the Graal through on any given shot at it. GPS seems a bit more all or nothing.

Still fair point it's not impossible to do.

If there's a trick to threading the needle with that thing more than one in seven shot's I'd actually be keen to know it.

Still fair point it's not impossible to do.

 

Graal has innate Guardian shield piercing, doesn't matter if you hit the slot or not. GPS hits the Guardian most of the time, even if you do not aim for the slot.

Not sure when this turned into the Talon Merc thread, but I just use the Wraith on him. It's reasonably light and the arrow barrage lines it up perfectly.

 

Rules of thumb:

  • mook --> AP Arrow, follow up with Wraith if necessary; or just Wraith
  • Brute --> AP Arrows until dead, maybe finish off with Wraith if only a few bars left
  • Ravager --> 1 AP Arrow then Wraith; mine spam in emergency
  • Phantom --> mine to make her bubble, then aim for head with Wraith
  • Dragoon or Pyro --> 1 AP Arrow then Wraith (these guys being all armor with no shields really f*cks them vs. the Talon Merc)
  • Atlas --> Wraith to take down shields, then AP Arrow(s), then Wraith again; mine spam in emergency
  • Banshee --> Wraith to take down Barrier, then AP Arrow, then Wraith; she will hand-of-denial the mines too often for my tastes
  • Praetorian --> pretty much Wraith all the way
  • Geth Prime --> mine spam and/or missile launcher; ain't nobody got time for Geth Primes
