I can oneshot most mooks with normal arrows, I don't need to waste AP on them. Which is why my 7 grenades are sufficient and it allows me to use the Berserker gear instead of Grenade gear.
The easiest to play engineer kits (Gold)?

Against most enemies, AP arrows are much more DPS efficient than mines, actually. A mine does around 5000 damage, while three arrows will do about 6000, without having to spam them or anything. Plus, since arrows benefit from both melee bonuses and power bonuses, their relative DPS increases more rapidly than with other powers. Throwing a pistol with a melee booster and a power booster will increase arrow damage to around 9000 per three, for example, while only increasing mine damage to around 6250. Without wasting mines quick-detonating and allowing you to fire at the same time, as well.
And maxed out, three arrows will do around 17.5k damage compared to a mine's max of ~8500. Of course, mines have AoE, but unless you're nuking a spawn, the numbers are pretty clear.
One question for other robin hood users; Is there any reason for using a graal over a GPS? Seems to me the GPS hits a lot more often and works a lot better against Phantoms.
I prefer the GPS between the two but I like the Arc Pistol better than both, JMO though. I just like to be able to shoot through stuff occasionally like light cover, etc.

Graal has innate Guardian shield piercing, doesn't matter if you hit the slot or not. GPS hits the Guardian most of the time, even if you do not aim for the slot.
Pretty sure the Graal does not pierce the Guardian's mighty shield. There is a bug which applies the ammo damage to a guardian despite the rounds themselves not piercing or mailslotting. I.e. the round itself does no damage, but the disruptor, phasic, warp component will. I always thought this was only relevant to hitscan weapons, but maybe it applies to the Graal as well.
Off host, I like the Graal better than the GPSG. The Graal seems to shoot blanks much less. I guess the GPSG's tracking shots might make up for that though. Regardless, Graal is krogan weapon, mrarwrwrw.

Since I almost always play off host, I can't really compare. Graal (with AP ammo) kills a Guardian, so I am not sure if ammo damage plays a role. I just completed the GPS challenge in one game, as GI. If it worked any better as host, then it would be completely OP. ^^ I don't think I fired any blanks that I noticed.
My Krogan soldier is equipped with a Striker and a Graal. Style etc. ![]()

Graal makes a more satisfying visceral sound than most weapons as well. It and the harpoon gun. Caaachunk as it splits someone's dome is reason enough to use it.

Not sure when this turned into the Talon Merc thread, but I just use the Wraith on him. It's reasonably light and the arrow barrage lines it up perfectly.
Rules of thumb:
- mook --> AP Arrow, follow up with Wraith if necessary; or just Wraith
- Brute --> AP Arrows until dead, maybe finish off with Wraith if only a few bars left
- Ravager --> 1 AP Arrow then Wraith; mine spam in emergency
- Phantom --> mine to make her bubble, then aim for head with Wraith
- Dragoon or Pyro --> 1 AP Arrow then Wraith (these guys being all armor with no shields really f*cks them vs. the Talon Merc)
- Atlas --> Wraith to take down shields, then AP Arrow(s), then Wraith again; mine spam in emergency
- Banshee --> Wraith to take down Barrier, then AP Arrow, then Wraith; she will hand-of-denial the mines too often for my tastes
- Praetorian --> pretty much Wraith all the way
- Geth Prime --> mine spam and/or missile launcher; ain't nobody got time for Geth Primes
ALL threads are talon merc threads! People just aren't willing to accept it!
I prefer the GPS because you can charge it while your arrows are firing and release for a perfect free charged shot, plus it homes in slightly making hits easier. Plus it ignores phantom DR and staggers. Plus it has those sexy, smooth lines. It really is best shotgun
I personally only have 5 grenades and don't use grenade gear and still do just fine. If you're using your mines as tripwires you will have more than enough given a relatively low recharge setup. If you have a situation you REALLY need to nuke, you'll probably have 3-4 or even 5 mines, and you can use your ammo packs to double that or more if you REALLY need to. I personally only have to do that if one of my teammates is an idiot so repeatedly that I've run out of rockets, but thankfully that almost never happens. Unless I'm playing with Deerber.
