I installed it after I already was in Skyhold. How do I get the items and mount? Would doing a mission make it happen?

 

I wasn't sure where to post this but figured I'd ask if it was story progress tied in some way.

You normally get the gear when you wake up in Haven. Maybe it will be in the Skyhold undercroft chest (to the left, when you enter). 

 

You get the mounts from war table missions that don't take any time at all.

I would check the little chest by the blacksmith for your items. 

 

The mounts should already be acquirable through the War Table, assuming you have recruited the Horsemaster (I believe you need him for this).

When you are in Skyhold, there will be a chest in the undercroft with schematics, it is next to the armor crafting bench. The horse is obtained through a war table mission. Other than the horse and the sword models, everything else kind of sucks. And the stats for the swords are rather low for such a neat model, meaning you will probably get rid of them early once you start getting better schematics.

Is there no chest at all? It should be right next to the armor crafting stand... Start a seprate game, play the first bit and see if the DLC items show up when you wake in the cabin in Haven.
