I really wouldn't mind a DLC involving the Darkspawn. I love the deep roads in DAI, especially the dwarven thaig under Crest Wood (or old crest wood I am not sure). The dwarven thaigs in DAI are gorgeous and I would love to see more of them. Also would love to see the  Architect again, I hope they don't completely redo his look though (if at all). Also hoping for the same voice actor as well.  Also more dwarven content is always a good thing.

idk, the one nearest crestwood.  Its been awhile since I have played DAI. But the one I am talking about I believe is where we go to close the rift  after we drain the lake.

As long as the combat remains like it is, three miniature mooks and one giant, rinse and repeat. I couldn´t care less, it is a abomination. Kills the fun completely.

I did not think that was a thaig but now that I am remembering the archetecture.

Yeop. It's part of the Local questline there. The fact that you're in a thaig may go overlooked, but it's identified as an ancient thaig by both Varric and Solas as you enter it to close the rift under the lake.

With wave after wave of essentially identical enemies, yea I can see how you could feel that way. The party system combat really works best with tactics, and right now that feature is still not working the way many folks would like. Not to mention that even on Hard, tactics aren't needed.

There's room for improvement, but I think they know that and they've done a good job melding DAO and DA2. But in general the party combat system is a signature feature of a Dragon Age game. I'm not opposed to it changing, but I think it's going to stay.

I think a shifting protagonist would be an interesting direction for this style of game as well. For this you would essentially play the equivalent of a 5-10 hour "Leliana's Song" for each would be party member (these would happen concurrently in the timeline) that end up with you all in the right place at the right time to form your merry band of adventurers and the remaining 20 hours is all of you against a big bad that you each have a beef with for individual or global reasons.

Eh, it's a thought.

I would love to see Orsimar and meet the chosen king and see how the choices made in DAO are effected in the city of Orsimar. I would love if it had to deal with the warden and the architect. oh it could be so fun..see darkspawn allied with wardens if they allied or warring if killed the architect. Oh I hope they give us a creation option for the warden like they did with hawk..and just have four standard voices like they did with the Inquisitor

They still haven't really fixed combat. I like some of the new wall themed abilities and things in that vein, and the protect AI is nice when it works, but the tactics are really shot this time. Not worse than DA2 was at first, but it's bad. No programmable combat behaviour is a killer right off the bat, never mind the required combat trigger on console. I can't play tac cam mode because of that thing, and I'm too preoccupied with the controls and the active defense system to pay attention to what used to be half the fun part for me, which was surveying the battle and adjusting on the fly, strategizing and adapting in real time (also setting up tactics and adjusting them was the other half). Character building isn't nearly as fun either. I can't build characters like paper tiger skill tanks or fade magic paladins anymore, just the kind of oddball unique builds I loved to develope for my party. I imagine it's just as bad on pc.

edit: I haven't really enjoyed combat since Origins now, but I loved DA:O and KoTOR. When they moved away from turn based mechanics and synched animation, that was it. Gameplay's not fun anymore. And now the tactics are also gutted. Probably my biggest problem with the game. And it's like 75% of the time seemingly stuck in random sidequest combat.

But yeah, I love the idea of switching perspective throughout a game like that. I've always enjoyed games that ask me to do that (like Heavy Rain, Suikoden 3, Yakuza 4, etc.). Also like ensemble films and books. Just that kind of storytelling. I had an idea I posted a while ago for DA where you'd play two generations of a family over a few decades time, where you play a parent trying to protect your family and raise your kid for the first part, y'know complete with the whole three act structure and romance and all of it, then take up the role of your kid in adulthood for the last five or ten years time, with their own arc and relationships etc. So a stacked perspective story where you'd have strong themes of time, family, loss, and perseverance.

If we had more of a fluid perspective switching DA game like you described though, I'd want the ability to design and personalize all the player characters. It'd be awesome though, like what we're asking for long term from our current PCs, really. But at a given point where their stories intersect, you might have to decide which role you're going to play against the others. Very cool.

I kind of miss the Deep Roads.

I miss Orzammar not the deep roads who were the boring part of DAO, this is the only thing in which i agree with Anders.

Please just not another Archdemon i have already lost one Loghain for that i do not have another to use.

I have a feeling we'll get references to the "different" kind of darkspawn from Awakening, especially the Children.

Has anyone noticed that all the deep mushrooms in the game grow out of some sort of Childer-grub-looking carcass? Or is that just my imagination?

And that is one of the reasons I am not buying these games anymore. I´ve had them all so far(ME1 too, just doesn´t show), but not after this. I didn´t buy this new dlc and will not buy anything anymore. Sad but sometimes it happens. Just have to look for other games for the RPG experience. This mmo grindfest is just not for me anymore.

Some of the areas in DAI can be VERY dark. I wonder if we'll have an entire region that will be a deep road?

A darkspawn, deep roads, and thiags will give DA:I a good dragon age dungeon type feel again like a callback to Origins. I also think it could tie in really well with our decision with the wardens. That being said it most importantly has a chance to share some of the lore-wealth and give dwarven lore some spotlight. I would prefer either Kal-Sharok story-driven DLC maybe ally with the dwarves there against darkspawn. Or I would love to visit one of the old thiags that was lost to the blights and see the Architect turn it into the first darkspawn type city. Having Disciples of different types of darkspawn and kind domesticating them by having the first darkspawn vendors so we can buy unique darkspawn gear and schematics.

This is awesome. I'm already drooling of the thought of Deep Roads in Frostbite.. It's going to look pretty sweet.

just one question, who was in charge of writing the Deep roads? Was it Jenny Hepler? I know she no longer works for Bioware since she took all the dwarf stuff with her. Same with Jay Turner for Oghren.  :(

One of the questions asked during the recent Q&A on Kotaku was by a user named BlandPancakes who asked:

"How about some DLC on the Darkspawn and Deep Roads? The caves in Inquisitions were pretty cool but there wasn't enough of them!"

Aaryn Flynn's reply:

"Funny you should ask... :)"

The post is near the bottom.

Say what ? "The Calling" dlc has been confirmed people the Hero Of Ferelden will make an appearance finally...!!!  :pinched:

deep roads, dwarves, darkspawn... oh and possibly my HoF? I'm totally in.

Right now I am in the middle of playing DAO as a dwarf noble and I gotta say things felt right at home with him during the Orzammar quests. And DAI had such nice deep roads. So did DA2 actually. I'd love me some more.

That's Funny cause bioware made it clear that they want to stay away from him/her. Even Pat Weekes said that he has no desire to see the warden again.

Pat Weekes: "The honest answer is, I wouldn’t want to go back to the Hero of Ferelden. I think the hero had a freaking awesome story — you had chance to die heroically, or you had chance to survive and ride off into the sunset with their lover. But remember when you all asked for Hawke to come back, how are you people feeling about that now? So i’d say be careful what you wish for. If we brought the hero back, I'm not sure it would be a happy story."

i think he's implying to those who killed off their wardens when facing the dragon in DAO and would feel cheated if he/she was brought back to life.

I would love to PLAY the Warden again for an entire expansion around the calling.
Then people would have a choice, The Warden or their Warden Commander from Awakenings.

Well your Warden's story is over. I've got no idea why people can't just let go. Nobody complained about a different protagonist in KotOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, etc.

The Warden has had their spotlight, bringing him/her back would be nothing but fanservice. he/she's not important to Thedas any more. He/she's probably dead in a lot of worlds. You guys really want every single event in Thedas to just randomly happen around 1 human/dwarf/elf? That's ridiculous.

Also Weekes didn't say he wouldn't bring him/her back because he was worried about fan reaction, he said he wouldn't because the Warden had already had their awesome story and got a complete ending. He's correct about that.

I would be good with a darkspawn-centric DLC.

Also, the Warden's story is not over, not by a long shot. If it were, they would stop giving him/her things to do. If their story were over, there wouldn't be any need to say "oh, they're trying to stop the calling". That's a pretty big thing to undertake, not just for the Warden, but for all Wardens in Thedas.
