I've googled so sorry if this is somewhere else I didn't see it.

I've come back to play Jaws of Hakkon, hard difficulty. I'm lvl 25, companions 24, our equipment is level 23. We are getting smashed by Hakkon Avvar. 2 Arrows and dead.

How can I craft level 25 equipment, if I craft now its only 23, I have $27k so it's not enough to purchase tier 4 schematics for everyone

I didn't struggle too badly completing the campaign a couple of months ago.

Am I supposed to grind around for schematics in other areas, as I've seen some posts dedicated to this?

While I haven't played it myself, I doubt that having slightly stronger equipment will really help all that much. The DLC is meant to be quite a bit more difficult than the main campaign. On harder difficulties, the enemies are probably designed to be able to one-shot you regardless of armor rating.

If you're adamant on playing it at Hard difficulty, I think you'd be better served looking into more crowd control abilities and maybe trying out different team combinations.

There is no schematics grinding in JoH I dont think. There are just a few chests and to me they're all statics altho I havent tried to leave the zone and come back in but it's just not worth it. Beat it in 2 days on normal but I dont think I'm going for second run. Plot is decent but loots wise is all the same to me.

Well a few deaths and some grinding later I've found some tier 4 schematics and a lvl 24 bow so Cole is out, Sera's in

Honestly just do the side quest, using the new weapons you pick and putting a decent rune on them (I suggest Corrupting, Fire or Lighting), matters more

Most of your Teir 3 endgame armor should work well enough before tackling the Hakkonite base.

My solution for them Pull of the Abyss or Static Cage(Preferred).Keep them locked in together, send in your warriors(preferably Cassandra with Templar combo or good 2 hander) and set off as many cross-class combos to deal huge damage while they're unable to move

Perrferred Mages- Solas or Dorion, giving either one Static Cage is fine but Solas with PotA and Stone Fist do good damage but Dorion with Walking Bomb and Spirit Mark can wipe Hakkonite EASILY

Just whats been working for me anyway, also DD Cole is good as well if built properly but make sure your keeping a steady barrier on him or under your control to get the most put of his Assassin tree

Yeah, you can't tank those enemies - except if you're a tank. Brute forcing it with equipment won't do much; especially since lvl 23 equipment is already scratching at the ceiling.

I'm wearing a tier 2 leather coat for awesomeness reasons. Tier 3+ rogue equipment looks like they can barely move.

I've now got some good gear, lvl 25 DD for Cole, he is back in. I upgraded BlackWalls shield and some other items. And Solas does not appear in Jaws of Hakkon Deebo. And this equipment I completely struggled with easily took down all dragons and Corypheus. JoH is a large jump in difficulty, though I hadn't played DAI for a couple of months so that wouldn't have helped either  ;)

Also in this 2nd playthrough I did not go to the effort of unlocking Astrariums, which normally contain some good gear / schematics. Plenty of goodies to be found in Astrarium caves & closing rifts

Started DLC at lvl19 on nightmare. The mobs one shots any character they hit, or if lucky - two shot. Luckily for me I was playing a blender build (Artificer /w perma-spinning blades) so my DPS was through the roof.

The trick with the DLC is crowd control. You need CC like:

Shield bash
Payback strike
Wall of flame
Flashfire and/or horrify
Rift mage for pull of the abyss / static field

Set all CC abilities to preferred and go full dps. Preferably 3 x ranged. Mobs will one shot you so you need to CC them ALL THE TIME.

Hes there if you do DLC before endgame but I'm in the same boat as you, did this post game

AS for the Astrariums, they aren't really important but do the 3 in the Basin gets you a good weapon and materials I believe. If you trying to get a Superb Fire Rune then do the 3 in the Western Approah to get the shematic if you already got the other 2 from the Hintherlands and Hissing Wastes

Blackwall is good but those Brutes may tear him apart if he gets swarmed but definitely close all the rifts, good gear in required for the last 2 bosses
