An obsidian game without major bug on release is unheard of and it won' t be this game unfortunatly. They really do have a major problem with testing and correcting bug.

Bugsidian stopped existing since Dungeon Siege III. Basically any game after New Vegas was practically bug-free.
It was around that time that they developed a special bug-tracking program and they said officially that "they're not going to make buggy games anymore".

Of course some bugs here and there are unavoidable but not like the older releases like NwN2, KOTOR2 and F:NV.

I played Dungeon Siege III, it run great, no game-breaking or noticeable bugs. Everything went great from start to finish.
I played South Park: The Stick of Truth. Again, nothing game-breaking or buggy. Finished it from start to finish.

I also believe with especially this game and no publishers pushing them, the game is going to be very very playable. Haven't seen anyone call it buggy. :D

Pillars doesn't really have true game-breaking bugs, but has some very interestingly wrong and frustrating bugs. Other will explain more coherently.

It may not count as a "true game-breaking" bug, but I'd say that having your character fucked up permanently because you double clicked on an item is a pretty big one. It was fixed in the new patch, though.

By the way, it took me a while to realise that I can hotkey abilities. I'd still like some kind of basic AI, but this feature has made combat much less tedious for me.

Having completed the Stronghold, I now ask: what was the point? That part of the game is in serious need of more development. But it's fertile fields for some modders to go to work.

The remainder of the game is still quite enjoyable.

Stronghold disappointed me too to be honest. I expected a bit more content. Plus, I find it bad design to have to go through two loading screens to rest there, and then two again to get out.

I found some small bugs here and there myself. But as others said, nothing really gamebreaking.

Bugs aside, there are only two things that drive me insane.

The first, which I don't know if it's my non gaming PC that causes it, is the loading times. I hope it's my PC so that I can enjoy the game a bit more once I replay it in the future with another PC.

The second, is that my companions cannot really make use of their high attributes like resolve etc. in convos. Resolve, perception and intellect are used intensively. I created a fighter, and went the might-athletics path. This caused a lot of reload sometimes in order to eat stuff which will boost my main PCs attributes in order for me to go on with the quest as I like.

Some might say that you can't have it all. Like a warrior who is also good with words. I didn't ask for that. But why shouldn't a companion talk if we travel together? And I mean on the side quests. The main quest can be all me. The main PC.

I put my copy on an internal SSD, so it loads fairly quickly. Unfortunately the save times increase the further you get into the game; quicksave soon becomes slowsave.

I did run into a near show-stopping bug in which a particular battle doesn't end with the completion of hostilities. Fortunately I was able to work-around it.

I finally did finish it last night; it took a lot less net play time than I expected, but then I didn't take the completionist route. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, at least for me, and had some nice plot twists and turns. I'm going to wait for it to get properly patched up and rebalanced before I take another pass using a different class. Or maybe I'll wait for the expansion release....

After many hours I finished it for the first time and am VERY delighted. On the other hand I started to think about the RPGs of the last years...

As it looks, the so called "old school RPGs" are gaining ground.

After extensively playing DA:I, all the sudden I had the urgent need to play NWN 2 OC + DLCs again...

Although I consider DA:I a good game I'm a bit fed up with "modern" RPGs, because sometimes they are really more like interactive movies or "dumbed down for the casual player" shades of real RPGs.

Questions:

1) Would you consider PoE a "better game" if there were more movie sequences?
2) Did you really miss fully voiced characters, your main in particular?
3) What do you think about the dev's of "modern RPGs", who use expressions like "fast paced" and "streamlined"?

My answer for 3) would be

fast paced (combat) --> more reflex, less brains
fast paced (game itself) --> little content, no really substantial decisions by the player

streamlined --> even less content, dumbed down

Thx in advance for replies :)

1. No.  I hate non-interactive cutscenes in games.  I like PoE's drawings with text for special encounters.

2. Absolutely not.  The Morrowind/Baldur's Gate type of voicing is what I prefer.

3. Those expressions indicate a game I don't want to play.

I was disappointed with PoI's graphics, ten years on and they are quite inferior to NW2+mods. You play on a flat bitmap with limited zoom and no ability to rotate the camera. PC's appearance about as awe inspiring as base NW2's. Really I expected better of Obsidaian.

Gameplay lacks the depth of NW2+D&D of course but still interesting, I have not played enough to tell how good the story is.

1) Would you consider PoE a "better game" if there were more movie sequences?

Depends on how well done they are. Good movies; yes a better experience.

2) Did you really miss fully voiced characters, your main in particular?

Fully voiced characters are a nice touch. Although it makes it much more difficult playing a male character, as its so obvious its not me.

3) What do you think about the dev's of "modern RPGs", who use expressions like "fast paced" and "streamlined"?

Nothing particularly. As long as the games are great that's all that matters.

I use big heads mod, it makes character look impressive on screen. I usually zoom out camera so I can get better view of surrondings, so characters were harder to spot. Big heads mod improved that aspect.

I don't mind the graphics on PoE (or W2 either) because I've come to associate generally awesome graphics with trivialized game play. The isometric view is similar to what I would see in a table top game, giving you a tactical view of the overall situation and allowing you to better utilize terrain and group tactics. Besides, after a few hours of play I hardy even notice.

No.

Nope. Professional voice acting adds significant amounts to the cost; I'd rather see an interesting story and well-considered interactions.

3) What do you think about the dev's of "modern RPGs", who use expressions like "fast paced" and "streamlined"?

It has it's pluses and minuses. PoE includes a number of features that streamline game play, such as area looting and the stash. To me they eliminate what is essentially boring bureaucratic activity and let me focus on tactics and interaction.

PoE didn't have any party companions I gave a hoot about. Nothing on par with good ole Grobnar.

I also do enjoy a level of humour in my RPGs in which PoE had none of.

I have really been enjoying PoE.  I didn't think I'd like the isometric view, but come to find out, it's really not that bad.  Still prefer NWN's camera.

The story is great and feels like the kind of tabletop game I'd get sucked into, but I really wish that all the dialogue wasn't so long.  Some of it, sure, but I'd like some petty conversations too--other than the exchanges between NPCs as we enter a new area.
