So when I first got my copy this afternoon I just started playing it without installing it. Game worked perfectly fine and there was much rejoicing. Later on when I was about to lay my son down for his nap I decided to install it to my HDD. When I came back and started the game I recieved a "Disc is unreadable" error message after pushing the start button at the title screen. I rebooted the xbox a few times with the same results. Since it was working fine before the install I decided to delete it from my HDD and now it works perfectly again. So my question is this: Is my HDD about to take a huge steaming pile or did something just go wrong with that initial install? I am cautious to install it again as I just recieved my 360 back after a RROD about 2 months ago. (non HDD related)

Exact same thing happened to me. Have no idea why.

Last night, I popped in the disc for the first time, and the same thing happened, pressed start and got nailed by the disc is unreadable message. To be honest, its unacceptable. I know my Xbox is alright, because it is roughly ...4 months old, and I have had no issues with it yet. Every other game I have played, has been played flawlessly. And as Eggroll reported as well, this is a common issue. I would not panic about your Xbox, because I dont think it is our consoles. It is VERY odd that they could ship out corrupted discs. But it does happen. Lets see what Bioware is planning on this issue.

I think the error might have to do with any DLC you downloaded and not being connected to Live.

Mine also has an absurdly loud disc-reading sound as I play. 2nd XBox, but this one is less than 2 months old. Doesnt happen w/ any other game, new or old. Had the disc unreadable the first time only.

Yeah, I had the same problem, but after deleting Zaeed Massani DLC it started working again.

I got the same problem last night, but only after I had already played for a few hours. I've gone in and cleared out the memory cache but that didn't work.
I've also started the game with disc 2 but as soon as I get to disc 1 content it pops up the "unreadable" text box again.
Two, questions: how do you delete individual pieces of DLC? I dont see an option for that in the Cerberus section of the main menu and they don't show up in the hard drive section of the dashboard?
Also, would installing it to the hard drive help? (even though that is what screwed up for the OP and given that the disc isn't being read, might not even be possible)
Thanks in advance

@Nicos Amblecrown - You can delete specific DLC/content if you goto the system tab of the 360 and choose Memory. Scroll down and select Mass Effect 2 and it'll list all save files/dlc associated with it. Delete whatever you don't want.

That didn't help me after deleting the Zaeed DLC it worked for awhile but now after hitting the start buttom it fade out and stay that way I've told my friend not to download that DLC because I didn't have any problem until I tried to download it last night and got a message saying it was a corrupted file and to redownload the file. It suck to wait 2 years for this and now I can't even play it

I installed mine (both disk) before I started. No problem so far.
Keep in mind when you get your xbox back from repair, it is unlikely that you have your old xbox back repaired. They most likely gave you a refurbished xbox hence it is not new.

@Taygeta-Cheers! Was able to delete Zaeed, but to no avail. Also wasn't even able to install the game to the hd without getting the Unable to Read box (which wasn't really unexpected). Guess I'm spending tomorrow on the phone with EA or arguing with the cute girl at the customer service desk at my Best Buy

I'm getting "disc unreadable" trying to install the 2nd disc to the hard drive (it's been an absolute no go). I've tried unplugging the system to hard reset it, checked the disc (looks ok), cleared the system cache but nothing seems to work. The first disc had issues too. Only after 20 minutes of tirelessly opening, closing and resetting did it finally complete a full installation on the hard drive. I'm not confident the xbox is the main problem in this scenario. My Forza 3 LE game works flawlessy on install and play. Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the problem. I'll probably sell it to one of my friends and pick up the Steam version (PC has never let me down). This is getting to be silly Microsoft. We can't even play our games anymore.

I also cannot install disc 2. It gets to around the 38-41% mark and then the disc fan noise slows down, followed by the "cannot read disc" error box. I see no marks on the disc, but it also gives an unreadable error before the title screen without the install.

Can any Bioware Reps chime in on disc issues? (Bad media?)
I'm getting the same odd seeking sound that Ensor is hearing when trying to install. It spins up and just stops and starts complaining about the disc being dirty or scratched when it appears the same as when i first opened it out of the box. I doubt my Gamestop will accept an exchange because of the Cerberus code being exposed (I'll certainly try and see what they say). The last time I had a disc problem was with Halo ODST and Bungie forums were flooded with unreadable disc complaints. I never had this problem installing Forza 3 and that was over 10GB of data. Thanks.
