Statements like this make it obvious how big a mistake it was to introduce the AIU as a kit.

It's just so bad, so broken on so many levels, and appears in games way too often. It's the main reason why I wish hosts could decide what kits are and aren't allowed. I hate quitting on a full room just because the fourth person who joined was an AIU or Talon Merc.

It was like Bioware was going out of their way to make the standard shotgun Human Infiltrator kit obsolete.  "Well, lets give her an even better ice-based debuffing power, an actual shotgun multiplicative bonus, and some sort of grenades."  And then, on top of that, coming up with a mechanic that would make the TGI look balanced by comparison.

AIU is legit even though it's OP, snap cheese can be annoying for a biotic team though. Merc is just broken if they person knows how to use the mines.

A few days ago I had someone use a Talon Merc with a Reegar and Harrier on Hazard Giant. They didn't do objectives, they didn't help with objectives, they didn't revive teammates, they just ran to the grenade box, spammed mines, used Reegar, spammed more mines, occasionally shot things with the Harrier, and so on.

Couldn't stand it. Quit on wave 6. Was doing pizza and the guy just stood in the LZ and spammed mines at enemies that weren't even doing anything, while I was getting destroyed by Primes and Phantoms. I felt bad for the other players since I was the host, but damn. It was terrible.

It's not just that they're bad kits, but they enable players with the worst tendencies to not be penalized for their bad behavior. Which for a co-op game is toxic.

I see your point. The guy was just an ignorant dick basically. Any kit could've made objectives more difficult with spawn nuking, it's just easier with the Merc though. The ****** player doing this never realizes he did wrong because "LOOK AT MAH SCORE, SUPER CEREAL BACKPACK!" and probably thinks when he fails it's because of other players. The same type of players ****** me off with rockets on objective waves to be fair.

At least rockets used judiciously on objective waves (like rocketing a Phantom that's gonna kill the guy doing devices) can help. But this dude was scorewhoring something fierce. Throwing mines at Brutes coming from the room next to the LZ doesn't exactly help me when I'm getting shot at from three sides.

So there were 2 other players, but Merc is to blame? Logic.

He's right if you nuke spawns it can shift the spawns so badly that you're fucked on certain objectives. Some objectives the object is to survive not kill unless needed. IE if you have a delivery and there are zero enemies between the object and the delivery zone if you nuke the spawn at the beginning the spawn may shift to a worse location than before and be inbetween the object and delivery zone. It takes a team to fail but one player can make things really difficult on the others.

Good catch, thanks for pointing it out.

Surprised by people liking that post.

The other two people didn't do a whole lot kill-wise but they did help with objectives. They just weren't particularly good, but that wasn't the problem. They tried, and I'm cool with that. It's just that this one guy didn't play like it was a co-op game, and didn't really help in any way.

And here I am over here with my Talon Merc specced completely out of Cain mines. I find the bow melee build is so much more interesting than the cain mines.

It's fun to use both. I generally spam the arrows and put the Cains in a few points to stop enemies from flanking me if they spawn in a bad location. I feel that's the way they intended the character to be used. Arc Pistol and AP arrows though is what I use mostly with him.

My Plat solo though? Yeah I spammed the **** out of those things. I think I may have thermal clipped and used about fifteen more than needed on double Prime waves.

It's a no-skill power like none other.

1. Aim in general direction of enemy.

2. Throw a bunch of Cain mines.

3. Enemy is dead. Go back to step 1.

Other grenade classes, hey, you at least have to take into account what distance the grenade arcs and the delay for the grenade to land and explode. Arc grenades are really cheap too, but not like the Cain Mine is. Cain Mine spam is like using the Cobra Missile Launcher, except it replenishes.

When I quit playing it was the FQI. Whenever I had a few bad games (which totally happen, btw, if I was actually trying to help my team) I'd always switch to an FQI and sweep the match. Beautiful character, really.

But the mine only deals ~2500 damage, it's barely ahead of many other grenades. It shouldn't be very effective. What am I missing?

What you're missing is that several can and will detonate at once, effectively taking down a shielded Atlas faster than a pug with their Disciple (just for example.)

It flies across the map in a straight line at a very high speed, which no other grenade needs. It has an enormous radius, which means that even if your aim is garbage, it doesn't really matter.  It decimates armor, and anything that doesn't use armor will die from its ridiculous damage anyway.

Cain Mine is the single most broken power in the game. More broken than Hunter Mode, more broken than Repair Matrix, and more broken than Stimpack. Maybe more broken than all three put together.

Here's another tip; I always shake my head when the whole team is safe during an objective because Pretorian and what not are bottlenecked, yet someone has to think with their epeen, missile away, and next thing you know everything is on top of us.

And I see this everytime. Not once do I recall this event not happening.

They throw Cain Mines at it, and it dies.

That's about it.

It ALWAYS made me laugh when a talon booby trapped the hell out of a room and got fondled by a banshee in that room..... usually waaay away from the objective......

Shoot her until she has no barrier, AP Arrow to debuff her armor, then shoot her to death (or more AP Arrows).
