I never thought of it as a "Golden City" to begin with

It's a city in the fade. The amount of power and skill to make that makes it amazing alone.

Tell us how great the elven gods are and how much the Maker sucks.

 

But I'm pretty sure the Creators were the sort of Black & White gods who're stealing each others' subjects by throwing rocks and trees at their villages for a quick conversion.

Or more like the avvar god in mortal form which are dreamers connected to powerful spirits. The same with the old gods who are just dragons connected to a powerful spirit as well.

The common perception among mainstream Andrastians is that the Maker condemned the world to suffer the darkspawn and the Blight because of what five Magisters did; it's part of the reason why some people, like Xil, don't have a high opinion about the Maker. I can certainly understand the complaint made by the OP in regards to how it seems like the Avvar's faith is denigrated because of outside information (in terms of "gods" simply being "spirits"), but as Xil said, it doesn't make the Andrastian faith true even if the Avvar are mistaken in their identification of spirits as "gods".

Funny how all these "uncivilized" locations have better living with magic. Should tell you something.

It doesn't say anything. Beings immensely more powerful than others can easily be considered "gods". Corypheus becomes a "god" the moment he seizes the throne of the Black City. Spirits also reflect the emotions and thoughts of those around them and have specific natures. Their deities are no less valid than the ever absent Maker or the dragons Tevinter worshipped as Old Gods.
