Actually, just straight-up THC has been linked to prostate cancer in men, and is a known depressant.

What he says is bogus anyway. The THC ammount in weed in the Netherlands, where it's sold 'almost' legally and is tested for research, has almost trippled in the last 20 years, if I recall correctly. (though I also recall there were some problems with the testing methods...)

People have just really started picking up on growing the stuff.

(though, of course, in the US or other countries where it's illegal dealers might feel the need to lace their product)

Something that's always baffled me:

When someone is growing pot with the intention to sell it, why lace it with chemicals you KNOW are potentially fatal if ingested or inhaled? It sounds a bit counter-intuitive for business to risk the lives of your customers (and when it's an illegal deal, I can't imagine many suppliers or dealers giving the buyers an ingredients list of the weed).

Probably because said chemicals add to the potency of the effects. And the customers want the best high they can get.

Like additives in soda and food that make the flavors better or sweeter.

But it's not as simple as smoking weed gives you a higher chance of getting schizopheni. It's saying that, most likely, smoking weed gives you a higher chance of developping schizophrenia if you already have a predisposition towards it.

That's why the term is risk factor is used. You're at risk for developing long-term psychosis. There is no causal relationship established, but a link is established between marijuana use and psychosis. However, as you said, it's not that simple. The pathophysiology of psychotic disorders are not well-known. If we don't know how Haldol works on a schizophrenic, you think we know how cannabis use works? I'm simply pointing out that while the subject matter is cloudy, there is evidence that marijuana use isn't helpful towards neurocognitive health, especially for vulnerable populations.

This is true. I forgot all of the stupid lengths people will go to for a good high, like inhaling chlorine and ammonia (i.e. bleach) with their pot.

So on the one hand, it's tremendously dangerous and you'll probably die. On the other hand, if you don't die, you'll feel great.

There are people who lace their pot with stuff. Of course that's both dangerous and stupid. If you for example cite someone who uses angel dust or some other dangerous drug on top their pot. Yes. The pot itself doesn't have any long lasting or short term effects that would be dangerous enough to never touch it. Pot itself is fine. It's most likely the least harmful drug out there. You can't overdose on it. You don't get upset when you take it. It's not even chemicals like made in a lab.

People claim its a gateway drug. That could be said on anything. People can't live in fear of "If this is legal..it will lead to other stuff" they don't know that. They know Pot is harmless itself so they have to cite that will lead to something dangerous. Most over the counter meds have more serious side effects then Pot does. I think ti was Ronald Regan who made it illegal during the 70's against the peaceful protesters. Yea.

Marijuana's not harmless. No drug is harmless.

Don't overestimate the side effects of OTC medications. In general, people take them for symptom relief, not recreational use. Also, OTC medications' side effects are known. Long-term cannabis use is not known.

As much as you wish there's no harm to cannabis, if there is an effect on your brain function and a lot of people are doing it, it's a public health concern.

Pot has been outlawed in many places before Reagan was even alive.

What your drug of choice says about you:

Marijuana: I just want to relax and unwind for a while.

Meth: I just want to GET THESE BEES OUT OF MY TEETH!

Tobacco: I like going outside and standing by myself every two hours.

Alcohol: I wanna get ****ed up!

LSD: I wanna see something ****ed up!

Ecstasy: I wanna ****!

Adderall: I'm gonna get stuff done.

Coke: I'm gonna get EVERYTHING DONE FOREVER!

Shrooms: I'm just trying to get more in touch with nature.

Heroin: I'm just trying to get more heroin.

Opium: I'm just trying to cope with the drastically shifting economic landscape brought on by the rise of British industrialism.

Whippits: I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING!

Brought to you by College Humor.

Eh... check your history.

Pot's been considered a poison since 1906, and it's been illegal in every state since the mid-1930's.

And Ronnie wasn't POTUS until 1981.

Isn't it weird that small amounts of cocaine was actually legal back then. Yet Pot was illegal. They demonized the truth. They expelled anyone who went against the idea that Pot wasn't dangerous. My overall point is. That it should be legal.
