You didn't kill the dragon!!!??  *points if you get the reference*

Seriously, though?  That's crazy.  The length of time it takes for me to get that shard unmolested by the dragon is enough to drive me crazy.

Mad respect, SJ.  Mad respect.

Nope, didn't slay the dragon  :D

But I'm no donkey (or ogre) because I'll usually equip Sera with Stealth and she can bounce up there while everyone else is getting toasted .

I agree there are three pitfalls:

  • The jump to the tall pillar from the block next to the one you would prefer to jump from,
  • Hugging the edge of the blocks further up so you don't fall off,
  • Not over-jumping and wedging yourself into the hole at the top.

Once she has the shard, it's a run back to camp...

Now, the chest I can't get is in the store-room of Suledin Keep, up on the rafters.

Has anyone got that?

And is it just random junk?

oh. Inb4 'pics or it didn't happen', so I opened an early save to see if I could replicate it  :).

1hr 40 into the game, level 3, on hard.

Madness.  But well done.  I'm actually more impressed that you cleared the bandits from the campsite at level 3...

That last one, the Suledin Keep basement... yeah, that was a LOT of annoying beam-balance walking. Repeatedly. With many, MANY failures beforehand.

I managed it. To answer your question - nope, just more random loot. Nothing awesome or unique or guaranteed, just the satisfaction, I suppose, of "reaching the hard to reach places".

Edit to add: I actually really enjoy those. It's stupid and sometimes time-consuming, but I have a platformer heart, so I will NOT stop until I can reach All The Things. And as much as I curse throughout it, by the time I figure it out, I DO feel rather smug and self-satisfied. And then I nod my head and go, "Well played, Mr. or Ms. Level Designer, well played indeed. BUT I REEEEEEACHED IIIIIIIIIT."

The chest that's really bugging me is in Citadelle du Corbeau.  It sits on some high scaffolding and I have not found a way up to reach it.

I climb the ladder in the center up to the broken stone walkway.  From there my DW rogue can use a Flank Attack to get to the ledge below it, but I cannot platform up to it from there.  or anywhere.

I even tried to circle around it from the north, outside the map.  No luck.

Is that the one in the Exalted Plains with the Empress's troops and the crazy ancient defenses?

If so, I made the jumps while mounted on my horse. You can go much farther jumping distances that way.

EDIT: Just looked up the name and yup, that's the one I was thinking of. Try the mount-jumping method. If you still have trouble, let me know and I'll be happy to go back and record a video of how to reach it. :)

Yes.

Its the Exalted Plains section with the fire defenses.

I tried jumping to it with the nugalope, but still couldn't reach it.  That's when I started using the rogue the flank attack.

In the center of the area there is a ladder which takes you up to a broken walkway.  If you follow the walkway to the right for about 10 feet you need to jump a broken section to reach a chest.  Before you jump that broken part, turn to the right.  There is a wooden plank hanging off the side.  If you walk on that plank and look straight ahead there is a scaffold and a chest sits on top of it.

I *think* we're thinking of the same one, but hard for me to tell from the written description (I'm a very visual creature).

I will pop on right now and record getting to the one I'm thinking of (it's already looted, of course) and post it up shortly. Then we'll see if that's the one or if I have a new thing to try and reach. :)

I think I found my problem.  I watched a Let's Play and it seems I'm missing a ladder.  Maybe I destroyed it while fighting my way through that section.

Well, mine didn't really involve a ladder, so I fear I may not have found "your" chest.

This is the one I was thinking of:

Gonna go back and try to follow your directions better.

Sorry, its not that one.  I apologize for my ineptitude at not being able to put up a screen shot or video.

I'll try to find a video to explain it better.

Wait, I think I may have found the one you mean. Are you talking when you first enter the Citadelle and there's a walkway that goes over the doorway a long ways around and wraps around the right side, leads to a chest, goes further, leads to another walkway up with another chest, but when you turn around and go to walk back down, you can see a metal chest on a stone archway ahead in the distance?

Never noticed that one before. Never been to it. Time to investigate...

Okay, nope, NOW I see it. Up a ladder, turn to right, see a chest on scaffolding in a seemingly impossible place.

On it. Gonna try and grab it.

And then gonna try and go grab that other weirdly-placed chest I just found earlier. Seriously, between these chests, the loot bags on second stories of collapsed buildings, and the shard locations, whoever the level designer was for Exalted Plains is 100% evil.

I think there is also a chest on a walkway behind where you shut off the fire defenses.

If I copied this link correctly, the ladder I'm missing is at timecode 14:33

Okay, yes, I see that now.

It would seem I actually looted that chest already, during the initial battle to the defenses, because when I hit the "scan" button, the rashvine shows up on my radar, but the chest no longer does so. I do NOT have that ladder from the video anymore either and my current save is after I rescued everyone and shut down the defenses, so it seems that ladder actually goes away. Sounds like folks better loot it before-hand!

Meanwhile, I found THIS little bugger and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to get to it:

I have been all over this place now, hopping on everything, even managed to sort of go "out of bounds" along the top wall trying to reach it, but the level "pushed" me back into bounds before I could get far enough along the wall to just drop down on the chest.

Hmmm...

I found it, Dragon! It's easier than you might think, there's a set of stairs that go down to it. Putting screens under spoiler tags for size.
If you start up at the wolf statue, up the short stairs:

Hang right, pass the rubble, then turn left:

turn left again and there's a set of stairs. Go down the stairs to your prize.

Heh, that reminds me of not one but two bags of loot on top of broken 2nd floors in ruined houses in the Exalted Plains. Loot that you literally have to tight-rope jump the tops of crumbling, uneven walls to get to.

I got one of them but had to (painfully) give up on the other. I can't stand "platforming" BS in my RPG's; especially one with such crummy, loose controls.

You mean I'm not the only one that jumps around like a loon looking for everything:P I didn't know mounts helped; good to know.

Apologies for being late to the party, but the Suledin Keep one is actually relatively easy. Evade really helps with this one, if you have a rogue that has it.

From the little platform next to the stairs, jump to the left onto some barrels, jump onto the next set of large barrels, then onto the wooden platform right in front on you, against the wall to the left. From there, jump right (away from the wall) onto the platform with a support pillar thing, then left to yet another platform, and I think it's right there? Maybe one more jump. Anyway, I got a schematic last time but it's otherwise unremarkable random loot. Fun if you like platformers, though!

Got it !

Thanks  :)

I am well into completionist mode at the moment.

Every shard collected.

Bottles of Thedas done.

Mosaics done. (pity about the one you get get but doesn't actually show up behind Gatsi...)
