I tried looking through the threads, but I am also trying to avoid spoilers.

In previous DA games you could end a romance with one person and start one with another. Or even have two going simultaneously, for a while. I saw a mod on the nexus that says this isn't the case in DAI.

For future playthroughs I want to know: In Inquisition is it possible to end a romance with one person and start with another?

If not, s it supposed to be possible (meaning there's a romance bug to be fixed)?

Thank you.

It's possible, but you must break up with them before the romance locks (after completing their romance-related question), then you are free to pursue other romantic interests.. If it locks, there is no option to break up, as far as I'm aware.

After you reach a certain point in the romance arc, you are locked out of pursuing other romances. Mass Effect 3 did the same thing.

I haven't played any Mass Effect yet, only DAO and DA2. My first romance was Dorian. If I had not done his second personal quest, the romance one, I could have started up with somebody else. But I would have to definitely break up with him first? And does it have to be through normal conversation, I couldn't just start with somebody else, forcing one of them to confront me?

Since I still could have ended the romance later, iirc, I thought other opportunities would open up.

Like I said, planning for the future (far distant future since I plan on one romance per game until I have done them all).

If you try to start a romance with another character without breaking up with your current parter, the new prospect will simply turn you down.

For example. when my Inquisitor was in a not-locked relationship with Josephine and wanted to get together with Sera, she refused until she broke up with Josephine.

OK, that's good to know. Or good-ish, anyway. Thanks for the answers.

What about Solas?

I started a pt w/ my Lavellan who is currently infatuated with him but I know he breaks up with you. After he does so, can you pursue other romances . . . say Cullen or Blackwall? I haven't talked to either of them much (other than flirting w/ Cullen in Haven and telling him I'm glad he survived) and I didn't even recruit Blackwall until after I reached Skyhold. I was going for and got the Trial of the Fool achievement for Taking it Slow.

Can you complete Solas' romance arc and, because he breaks up with you, be open to a second one? It seems to me that you're no longer locked in at that point.

You cannot start another romance if Solas breaks up with you. If Solas breaks up with you, you are locked in. You have to be the one to break it off before Solas does if you want to pursue another person to romance.

Thank you, lynroy. Since Ka'inelle is not going to break up with Solas, I'll save that option for another Lavellan. Looks like I'll have to add another world-state and back story to my list of future playthroughs :).

You can have more than one.

I think I've even heard of people playing trollop Inquisitors and having 3-4 LIs in a single game if you fancy that type of thing.

Here's a guide that let's you maximize the amount of romances you can experience: Solas > Josephine > IB > Sera > Cullen

The short answer is yes you can, but its typically complicated, and you might miss some scenes.  I recommend going with a guide like the one @stop_him posted and having series of saves.  As a few people already mentioned, you can't do concurrent romances in this game.

In Origins, you can have more than one romance going on at once, although they will call you out on it. You can try to lie, be honest, and eventually they'll force you to choose between them, but you can have a relationship with more than one at once.
