Well, not that I recall. When does she say it if you don't?
It is assumed that she will marry the lord from Antiva, if you don't romance Josy, so she will leave at some point.

I would have thought she'd say something during the convo that permanently locks in the romance.
I haven't done a Josie romance but with Cullen he'll say he won't want to move on from you and when asked what he'll do after this is over he'll say it hardly matters if they are together.

She does, in the climax of the duel.

My ex says it's cos some people are terrified of their game being regarded as 'girly' if they go for happily ever after. I still haven't worked out if he's joking or not!
Don't Josephine and Blackwall get together if you romance neither of them?
She has an arranged marriage to some lord from Antiva, and there is no mention of her and Blackwall getting together, she disowns him when his identity is revealed.
Forever-alone Lavellan is pretty sad.
I figure the only companion who'd stay around for a while would be Cole. The rest have their own lives and good on them. She'll move on and find something else, supposing she doesn't find Solas and see what that was all about.
This picture is so sad. It seems that she's pondering about jumping off the balcony. ![]()

Apparently there is banter that suggests they get together, I never got it so I can't say for sure though.
Clear this up for me, do the characters ever actually leave in game? And also where can I read this 'story' about what happens to the characters? Or could someone knowledgable summarise for each character?
They talk about it at the "celebration" and the Keep also makes an explicit point, with every character I recall, of stating that they stay until Corypheus is defeated ... which heavily implies that they'll leave afterwards. Between the darkness, the guards at every door, and people talking about leaving, it really is the crappiest victory celebration ever, more of a pre-emptive wake for our now-useless ex-protagonist before s/he is disappeared by the writers. Yes, I'm rather bitter about this happening repeatedly.
I also wish it was possible to invite someone up to the balcony to watch the sunrise together, instead of making it mandatory if you're in a romance and leaving the Inquisitor alone otherwise. That way it would be the player's choice whether to treat that last scene as a well-earned moment of solitude, or something to be shared with those closest to the Inquisitor -- bedmate or platonic friends. I do like the way my character gazes at the dawn that has finally come, but I would have loved the option to ask Cass and Cole to join her for it.

They don't get together per say. They exchange notes and tokens for a while but it never goes beyond that.
Usually, that's what people say to me when I say my first playthrough was as a Dalish Inquisitor who romanced Solas. "Oh, I'm sorry."
I think it enriched the game in a way that other combinations wouldn't match.
Was your first play through a blind play through? It was for me, and it was awful..romancing solas on a blind play through..and then he breaks up with you :/
My Inquisitor made off pretty well. Just about everyone stuck around, though her good friend Cass was going to be off to rule the Chantry and stuff, but everyone else stayed, and she and Sera go off to stare at the mountainside they've been staring at for months prior.

This would've been nice. Like, if my Inquisitor was alone, I would probably have invited either Dorian or Cassandra to have a last minute talk before the epilogue slides rolled.
After the endgame, almost every originating member leaves him, he is left alone. Worst of all his love intrest can become Divine... After the endgame it sort of sucks to be Inquisitor, all of his friends leave and the chantry want's him at its beck and call.
For my lavellans is not such a bad thing. They either will be left with their LI (cullen/blackwall) and the companions they are actually friends with (cole, IB, and can stay in touch with dorian). Even my solasmancer doesn't feel really upset, if she doesn't reunite with him, she can go back to her clan, and move on. But as Lob said, it depends on the background, the inquisition disbanding can be a good thing for a dalish quizzie.
A lot depends on the dialogue choices you make. Obviously nothing makes any difference to Solas and I always think it's a bit hard on my romanced Lavellan that she alone has no adoring love interest staring up at her after the battle (just Varric) and goes back to her room alone. That celebration feast really wasn't for me.
However, whilst Dorian talks a good deal about returning to Tevinter, if you are his friend he changes his mind because I think he has the sense to see that he hasn't so many friends in the world that he can afford to abandon the Inquisitor. If you are his romance, you can guilt trip him into staying. Ignore what he says back in your quarters or rather just translate it into the opposite of what he says. To be honest life is likely to be a lot more interesting continuing with the Inquisition than as a one of many Altus back home. My Inquisitor is planning on a trip to Tevinter anyway; just got to get the diplomatic invite sorted out.
With Cassandra as my love interest I managed to successfully dodge the bullet of her becoming Divine. Yes, she is going to rebuild the Seekers but has vowed to stay at my side. In fact she seemed to think she would be the one finding it hard to get alone time in the future. In my playthroughs as a friend she always promises to stay at my side or, if made Divine, to always be friends; which I think would be useful.
Cole, Blackwall and Bull have nowhere really to go.
Don't know what happens with Sera if she really hates your guts. I've finished with her always saying she wants to stay around.
Lelianna will no doubt reunite with the Warden (if romanced) or leave if made Divine but otherwise she'll be there.
I think more to the point is no whether or not the Inner Circle stay with you but what happens to the Inquisition after the end. I'd like to think there will be at least one more major high level story beyond the current DLC. Otherwise what the companions do is just moot.
Well they're friends, not pets, they have lives of their own to get back to. They don't have to live under your roof to still be your friends, they'll be around. ![]()
I'm reserving my sympathy for my 'canon' Inquisitor for when Blackwall inevitably dies during his Joining.
I'm kidding, I hope. But given that the Warden and Zevran are the only PC-involving couple from previous games that can be physically together during DAI ... well, I won't be very surprised if it ends badly or they're forcibly separated during DA4 with no clear prospect of getting back together.
Other than that, though, I think she'll be fine. She'll miss her BFFs Dorian and Varric when they return home, but she's a friendly person and will still have plenty of company in the Inquisition even if some of her inner circle leave.
What?? My inquisitor lived happily ever after with her former Templar army commander and totally had curly haired little magelet babies with him.
And my inquisitor who romanced Dorian is totally going to Teventer with him. All is good!
This picture is so sad. It seems that she's pondering about jumping off the balcony.
I didn't realise how sad it was until I watched the other endings. It looks brutal to me now.
Not really.
Through Head cannon/ actual implications of the game for my first Inquisitor most of his companions do stick around for a while. They seem to, you know. And yes, they may eventually leave, but such is life. Even the the Fellowship was broken. The threat was over, and the Inquisition could be more valuable...its former agents under the Inquisitor, eading new lives and righting wrongs, fixing the world.
Well they're friends, not pets, they have lives of their own to get back to. They don't have to live under your roof to still be your friends, they'll be around.
This. Cadash will show up in Cassandra's office to tease her about sitting around doing paperwork. He will also mention how he had just took on an army of bears before his arrival. Cadash would had most likely dragged Cole along, and Vivienne would had followed just because she wanted to convince Cassandra that she should make her the mage advisor. Cadash isn't really good at the lovey dovey stuff, so he would just put a bear pelt on Cassandra's desk, with a little smirk towards her.

Nah. Being alone isn't the worst thing, and anyway she's not totally alone, even if I got her clan killed in addition to everything else. She's got work to do. But, it is sad, there's no doubt about that.
It's interesting to think who would stay and who would leave when you take dialogue and the keep in consideration. For me, those who would leave are the following: Varric, who wants to go back to Kirkwall and help rebuild the city, Leliana, who became Divine, Dorian, that wants to go back to Tevinter to change things, and Blackwall, who became a true warden. I suspect Vivienne will want to go back to the court, considering she wouldn't be welcome at Fiona's new circle.
Josephine is my romance, so I suppose she would stick around. With the templars destroyed and the Seekers gone, Cassandra has no were else to go, so she will likely stick to the Inquisition. Cole also has no other place to go, Iron Bull is Tal Vashoth, so he and the chargers will continue to work for the Inquisition. Sera is an total unknown to me. She could either stay or go on an whim.
As far as my playthrough goes, the only characters I feel will stay with the Inquisitor are Sera, Cole, Bull, The Chargers, Cullen, Josephine and Harding.
Leliana becomes Divine.
Cassandra is the new Lord Seeker.
Varric goes back to Kirkwall.
Vivienne returns to court.
Blackwall leaves for the Wardens.
Dorian goes back to Tevinter.
Kinda sad really. Out of all these characters who are leaving to the only ones I feel the Inquisitor will keep contact with are Cassandra and Leliana (both the Seekers and the Chantry seem to have close ties with the Inquisition according to the epilogue) and Dorian because he wants to continue being friends with you. ![]()
