Same here, i think that you need to romance him (haven't tried), to get him to actually stay. If I remember correctly, if you're friends, he says that he has to go to tevinter to change it, but he will postpone it, to stay with his friend a little more.

Same here. Mind, Dorian is one of the companions I'd most easily understand leaving, since his self-imposed mission to shake up Tevinter is such an important facet of his character as "The Redeemer". I'll miss him, anyway. He's a good friend.

I was shattered and broken when my Lavellan was left all alone on the balcony. Curse you butthead. She'll find you.
But Josie told my Trevelyan that whatever future awaits them, she'll make sure he won't have to face it alone. I melted into a puddle. They'll marry and live happily ever after, and Bioware can't tell me otherwise.

This is part of the reason it is hard to get attached to the Inquisitor and companions and advisers. It also makes the ending even sadder because I know they will all become insignificant and never seen again. I really hope they rethink not doing larger expansions because honestly I'm not done with my Inquisitor or their cast of companions.

That is exactly what I expect/fear will happen, yes. ![]()

They stay for a short time (in game), but later in the story some bring in replacements, and then leave.
What do you mean, "later in the story"?
It's over.

As endings go that's one I can live with for my canon Lavellan. It puts the Inquisition outside of the player's control and she'd actually be happier doing that than being the central figure in an Andrastrian institution.

Hopefully going north next game will give them enough reason to just leave the characters be as they are, and not have to pull disappearing acts to keep them out of it.
I'd be quite content with DA:I marking the end of this 'arc' of characters in general, actually, with a few exceptions for newer ones introduced in DA:I with a reason to be seen again.

To be fair I feel bad for my Inquisitor throughout the entire game.
She's Dalish, went to watch some Shem peace talk she didn't much care about, saw a woman get tortured, tried to help and... well from then on everything went to hell really.
First they send her to battle all the time, fighting random bandits and stuff (lucky coincidence she can actually fight, I keep wondering what would have happened if my Lavellan had been like a bread-maker or something equally peaceful). Anyway, she then suddenly has to make choices while everyone bickers around her, Corypheus attacks and she decides to just face him to let everyone else escape (I'm thinking death wish here actually).
When she barely escapes with her life she wakes up alone with only a chantry sister even caring that she has just woken up (and she's Dalish, she really couldn't care less about the chantry). Solas then tells her that they'll probably only love her for a while because the big bad orb is elven. What a cheery thought! She also has to scout for a new home for the Inquisition.
When they finally reach Skyhold they put her on the spot and make her Inquisitor, whether she wants to or not. (Hello, Dalish mage, why would she want to do something crazy like that? And why do they give the tiny mage a massive sword anyway). But she does it, doesn't complain and the one person she finds comfort with is Solas. Only of course Solas dumps her ass quite spectacularly.
And somehow she's still coping, trying to keep everyone together, playing at shem politics and what have you because the world needs saving. And surely having Solas as a friend is better than not having him at all, right? He is the only other person who is even remotely like her, elfy and all...
And then of course, right after she has finally killed the bad guy, Solas just ups and leaves without so much as a 'by your leave'. And everybody else just celebrates around her, telling her how amazing that fight was. I actually keep thinking that she probably just jumps from her balcony after that last scene. Nobody could be able to handle all of that at once...
In all honesty, I love the game. I adore every bit of it. But I do wish my Lavellan got a bit more compassion from the other members of the Inquisition. First the break-up and all you get is a snarky comment from Sera about your face and the one moment of compassion with Cole. Everybody else doesn't care. And then after your former lover runs away they all celebrate and while Leliana says something comforting once that's absolutely it....
Poor Lavellan...

I headcanon that my Inquisitor killed herself quietly after leaving the inquisition and closing the remaining rifts on her own. I don't think she'd have any reason to live, abandoned by everyone and Solas. Also, the very notion that the Inquisitiion still exists after the game(and it's been foreshadowed pretty heavily it may become another terrible organization of oppression and fear) and the Inquisitor can't do anything about it is a terrible weight, I think.
When and where?

It's a bummer that most of the IQ's friends will be moving on, but I can't really feel bad for my girl. Sure it sucked being a Circle mage, losing alot of friends to the Breach, and getting pummeled by Druffalo, but still things ended miraculously well by endgame.
She romanced Cullen, and as a Trevelyan, she has a good a family out there. As the leader of a powerful inquisition, she has many perks, and she'll always be surrounded by all sorts of people with whom she can befriend. It's a dangerous and stressful life, but still has tons of nice things about it.
I'd have the most pity for a Lavellan who got dumped by Solas and got her whole clan killed via war table mission...
