Off-topic: Does everyone really see the Despair Demon as female? I always thought it looked pretty genderless, like the shades, etc.

I thought I was crazy that they seemed genderless to me. Thank goodness I do not seem to be so. Unless I am not the only one who is crazy. That would be crazy.

On-topic: Agreed that it's a pretty cool system!

If I had to pick what I thought was female I think I would have gone with Fear

I've seen the face up-close. It is just mouth that's all teeth and no eyes nose or other features. I keep on mispronouncing and thinking desire demon. They also remind us of banshees, who indeed was always female, who wails before someone dies.

The demon will always appear to be the gender that appeals most to you.

I only refer to them as female because I've gotten in the habit of thinking of the song "Cold Hard ******" by Jet whenever I see one.

I'm also relieved I'm not the only one. Well, welcome to the Potentially-Crazy-but-Possibly-Sane club I guess.

Hmm. Also pretty genderless to me. I'm pretty sure I get too caught up in them being arcane horrors with spider legs in their back to think about it :P

Ah, yeah, their shriek is Banshee-like. So I suppose that can (sub)consciously click for people.

That might be true in the lore (as referenced by Dorian) but certainly not in-game!

My momma always told me not to look a demon in the eye, so I'm usually playing demons with Katari. Eyes closed Whirlwinding constantly, occasionally tapping R3 for lock on target and Rush.

Makes the demon runs a lot easier when someone has mic and tells me whenever I get attacked.

I can see (heh) it now, a whole new level of e-peen: solo Perilous with your eyes closed!

Requires picture-in-picture mode on your 'proof' video so we can see not only your gameplay, but that you're blindfolded while doing it.

I only really gave the Despair demon a female pronoun because the shrieking reminds me of banshees, both of the ME3 variety and of Irish folklore (the latter also tends to be shown in black, hooded cloaks like Despair is), both of which tend to traditionally be viewed as female.

But that's just my opinion. I see nothing physically that denotes female and I don't think the game specifically states either way. Of course, all demons are probably "its", if you want to be technical, but I tend to anthropomorphize most things. Same reason while some call Justice an "it" because it's a spirit, I call it "him" because of the voice actor/general feeling of character portrayal and same reason why I can't bring myself to call Legion in ME an "it" when technically that's what an AI-controlled robot is. *shrugs*

I think it's because they kind of look like they are wearing a dress.
