You could also recommend the OP games to buy, or perhaps offer her (or him) advice on Steam.
Y'know, like what a normal person would do in real life.
What else would you click a thread like this for?
'Cept it aint real life is it? Elsewise I would offer my advice.
Well if I'm honest, I clicked to see if this was going to have anything interesting or if it would just be as pointless as the title made it seem.

When you give your Steam account to your kids, you can explain to them why your account name was masterbaiter69@hotmail.com.
Legally you can't do that, if it's discovered the account was given to another person Valve would just lock it out.
Note: I'm aware of the humour but I figure I should show how serious Steam is with stuff like this.

Actually it was ayanamirei4lyfe@hotmail.com, even though everyone knows Asuka is best girl.
And there's just no way I can explain such poor taste to my children.

I ate a chicken sandwich for lunch. And had a nice conversation with the waitress about her Kirby tattoo. Followed by a 15 minute drive to tech where I promptly learned knowledge. Then I went home and played Lego: Lord of The Rings and fell asleep half way through an episode of Doctor Who. And now I'm here.

For the OP, I would recommend (for multiplayer and co-op):
7 Days to Die (an excellent open-world survival game where you have to scavenge, build weapons, farm, etc, to survive a zombie apocalypse)
Dirty Bomb (a team-based FPS in the style of old school Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but faster paced and with a higher learning curve)
Toxikk (a very fast paced arena shooter in the vein of Unreal Tournament)
Infinite Crisis (a DC Comics themed MOBA that recently launched)
Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! (RPG/FPS hybrids with a Diablo-esque procedural loot system)
Team Fortress 2 (a free-to-play team-based FPS and one of the most popular games on Steam since its release in 2007)
For singleplayer, I would recommend:
Half Life and Half Life 2 (2 of the highest-rated shooters of all time)
Alan Wake (a horror/thriller third-person shooter inspired by Twin Peaks and Stephen King; one of my top 10 games of all time with an excellent plot)
The Batman: Arkham series (THE definitive Batman experience)
Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light (post-apocalyptic FPS' that put strong emphasis on stealth and scavenging, with fantastic atmosphere and good storytelling, based on the novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2035)
Portal and Portal 2 (some of the best puzzle games ever, period, and Portal 2 also has co-op and community made puzzles)
The Talos Principle (another great puzzle game)
Infinite Crisis and TF2 are both F2P, and I own all of the games I mentioned on Steam. If you're interested in playing any of them with another person, I'll send you a friend request on Steam.

If you like piña coladas and getting caught with a mane
If you're not into yoda, if you have half a brain
If you like waking bunz at midnight in the dunes of the cape
Then I'm the dork that you've looked for, write to me and escape
