Why were Dragoons introduced for Cerberus?

I remember when Bioware introduced Dragoons and Geth Bombers as new enemies for Cerberus and the Geth and the ripples the changes caused. I remember that the Geth Bombers were designed by Bioware as a counter against FBW/G/G farming and Geth farming in general, which made sense since it was a pretty common thing to do at the time. What I don't remember is why Dragoons were added in the first place.

Was it so the Cerberus spawn budget on Gold and Platinum wasn't completely dominated by Phantoms? Because yay, diversity? Because Cerby needed an armored character? I can't recall.

Because they thought Phantoms, engineer turrets, and Atlas u-turn missiles weren't enough BS to deal with.

I don't really remember but anything that reduces the number of Phantoms faced is a plus for me.

Same reason. To break camping. Reason why Reapers didn't get anything new since Banshees already did this, and still does it better.

Stasis effectively neutered Cerberus?

because Atlases are big, slow, and dumb. They needed a quicker armored unit that could easily dispatch 1 or 2 players before dying, also they needed something that couldn't be grabbed (though iirc Phantoms can't be grabbed either), in addition Dragoons are meant to be a shock trooper type that effectively stop people from staying too still for too long (aka camping.)

p.s. all of these are reasons I came up with myself because Bioware is actually horrible at explaining anything to us. I have no real clue as to why Dragoons were added, but I'm guessing it had to do with the fact that Cerberus was getting roflstomped probably. I frankly can't remember there not being Dragoons on Cerberus because this was years ago at this point.

Makes sense.... If you sit in a corner and have a justicar and 3 asari adepts, cerberus anything other than atlas and dragoons would be jokingly frozen...

I never had a problem with Turrets and Atlases. Atlas missiles are annoying, but hard cover negates them, Atlases are slow as molasses, have an enormous hitbox and shooting the cockpit destroys them pretty quickly. Turrets don't have a lot of durability and can't exist if you kill the Engineers first. Phantoms are pretty broken, yeah, but Goons aren't so bad. He's a pretty balanced enemy. His powers are deadly in CQC but you can either run past him or dodge. His ranged damage is solid but nothing crazy, and his accuracy isn't particularly good, either. He can't ignore powers, and he can be staggered. And he doesn't have a sync kill.

Banshees..... the second most annoying unit in the game (outside of collectors and second to bombers) There is no way to CC banshees at all (Other 'bosses' can be hacked or stasis-ed... and I hardly consider a brute a boss), there is no easy way to put distance between you and the Banshee, and Banshees don't set off traps 9 times out of 10.... The only reason they aren't as annoying as bombers is the fact that you KNOW when a banshee is coming and you KNOW if it is coming for you, as they are the single most obvious enemy in the game (the atlas's smoke at least allows you to hope its a centurion)... and bombers get my top spot because they are hard to see (I can see cloaked phantoms easier than bombers), impossible to avoid, and very hard to avoid damage from...

The main reason was no Cerberus unity had armor (except the Atlas, but they are slow and easy to kill). Due to that, Stasis (among other powers) made the whole faction ridiculously easy to fight against.

In fact, Cerberus was by far the easiest enemy (except FBWGG, of course), before the introduction of the Dragoons.

When they introduced Goons, Biowar made them spawn infinitely, till the wave budget ran out. And there were 3 or 4 of them at the same time on Gold. So you literally kill 20 dragoons, a couple of Phantoms and an Atlas and the wave is over. Made devices an even bigger chore, because it was nearly impossible to lose them.

All in all Dragoon design is retarded. Cerbies suppose to be a slow push faction with "tactical" approach, not zerg all the things numbnuts. But they made an all armour guy the fastest enemy by far and gave it a really long range attack to boot.

Really? Because that's all Phantoms ever do.

It matters not.

With lolgoons, we had the glorious Lord Venom bestowed upon us.

All that was evil in this world is ragdolled to the sound of childlike laughter.

Phantoms only ever zerg rush when there are a lot of things around. But then again, that's just in my experience.

Personally I'd like to know where the Dragoon got his Hornet. The stability on that thing is tremendous.

Because an enemy that literally sprints at you from spawn until death, firing with perfect accuracy, along with the ability to stunlock you in melee, topping it off with the self preservation of a sponge, is the apex of video game enemy design.

Essentially, stagger weapons became far more popular as a result of lolgoon and phantom rushes.

And stagger weapons that kill things well became super popular: Venom, Scorpion, Geth Plasma Shotgun, Graal...

Phantoms take cover, they often retreat when they take damage and cloak. That at least demonstrates some self-preservation and tactics.

Dragoons just rush. No cover, no nothing. Run and smash. I'm really surprised they occasionaly roll when they are hit.

Otherwise they behave like a T-1000.

What happened with the Raptor is this: Cerberus leaked the intelligence for their high powered rifle.

It's the wrong intelligence.

Cerberus shiggles at Alliance Corp when they hear tell of their replication of it.

Alliance issues the gun.

Alliance soldier try out gun one time. Place back in armory. Tell Alliance they did something wrong.

Alliance tells them to eat a dick.

No one speaks of this situation again.

Cerberus other than phantoms were too tactical to be a threat. Dragoons were introduced to be camp busters and to make enemies like the Atlas more of a threat as well. They also added another armored unit into Cerbs which required a more versatile arsenal to deal with efficiently. Dragoons in concept were a good idea to me, they make Cerbs play a lot faster and make the tactical nature of trooper, centurians and slow moving enemies like Atlases more effective. The BS factor associated with them is kind of annoying though, can fire while smashing or just cancel animation.

Probably just really strong wrists.

I doubt we need to get into the "science" behind them :P

Bombers by the way were for the same reason because Geth were farmed by camping so much, so they introduced those. Cover based shooter that they do not want you in cover for. Biower pls.
