Did you know that people use to think that the platypus was a myth? Until someone found them. Makes you wonder what other "myths" might be lurking about.

I don't know... I don't think some myths will ever be true.

Like girls on the Internet? Pssssh. Biggest myth out there. Likely never to be proven.

Okay so if extinct animals count: Haast's eagle

Spoiler

And if not, frogs. frogs are the best.

If we're going with extinct animals, we should probably include the Titanoboa, the longest and heaviest snake ever known to have existed. It lived approximately 60 million years ago, and is estimated to have reached lengths of 12.8 meters, or 42 feet. Here's a picture from the Smithsonian for size comparison:

It took a long time to figure this out, but my favorite alive animal would have to be the black fox or an ermine (white-coated stoat).

My favorite extinct mammal

The Giant Ground Sloth. It took me more than a year at my paleontology lab, to put back together a vertebral column of one of these big guys.

I find your lack of likes for Harpy Eagle disturbing.

That was a known fact!

This was uploaded less than a day ago. Developments have been gearing up past couple years & this last week saw Wood bison, a larger subspecies of the Plains bison, return to United States territory after around a hundred year absence.

Don't think we've done this one yet:

Mantis-Shrimp.jpg

The mantis shrimp has probably the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom; in addition, the smasher subgroup of mantis shrimp can deliver a punch with its forearms that has the same force as a .22 calibur bullet. In short, they're pretty fascinating animals. But don't take my word for it; listen to faux Morgan Freeman pontificate on the subject.

EDIT: Chose a different picture. The other one was too wide and was getting smushed quite a bit.

As far as extinct animals go, how about the Paraceratherium?

It was a type of hornless rhino, and probably the largest land mammal that ever existed.
