as for origins/backgrounds

Surface Dwarf or Royal Dwarf But like a Surviving Harrowmont if Bhelen was made King or a Noble Dwarf whose Family is being screwed by politics

An ACTUAL QUNARI

One where your character is oath bound to the Qun where there are options you can see but cannot select to tease you

CIty Elf please. Dalish are too meh.

Chasind and Ash Warriors seem cool

I'm a bit tired of this as well which is probably part of the reason why I usually go with a mage, other races or, like in DA:I, end up heavily head-canoning and ignoring options which come with your noble backstory. It would be neat if they had the similar system as in Mass Effect where you can choose your past. This then effects dialogue in various places and even some available quests. Wouldn't be as resource heavy as creating different origins ala DA:O, but would still give some different flavors.

I agree, Having a system where you could choose your background would at least make the role-playing easier. Though I would like to see them commit to it and actually have that play into the story.

This is why I favour my "DA4 is about a slave who leads a rebellion in Tevinter" idea. Be any race you want, but you always start as a slave.

What if I don't want to lead a rebellion? What if I want to support Tevinter???

AGreed on this. A former soldier or mercenary would be nice, I think. Ordinary, but with combat training and potential leadership skills.

Avvar or Chasind or something along those lines would aslo be interesting. I also like the escaped slave idea - and it could work both ways. Either rebel agaisnt the ruling class, or maybe chose the more difficult path, which would require you to work your way up through the ranks and help to glorify Tevinter? Hum. To do that, though, you'd really need to be a mage... hrm. Interesting regardless!

I would love to have more variety in the background of the human protagonist.  It might actually make me choose to play as a human for once.

Yes, please let us be a City Elf and not a Dalish Elf.

I'd like the choice of being a Dalish Elf or a City Elf.  I can see why they went Dalish-only it DAI, though.  I just wish they'd done more with a protagonist who came from a completely non-Andrastian background being hailed as the Herald of Andraste (and please, Bioware, get rid of the 'who's Mythal?' line, but that's an issue for a different topic).
