Hi all. I don't know if the title is clear, but this is a picture of what I'm trying to do.

This is a sea monster, stock creature (The one on nightshore of MotB).

It is tall, but I like the effect of these tentacles moving like coming out of the fog. I haven't tested it yet, because I didn't think it would work. The way the picture is, the creature is just lowered in there and height locked. The question is, will it stay there once I bake and run, or is such a thing impossible?

Creatures don't really get a Z-axis in game, they'll be put in the walkmesh. You could always put in a helper that sets the height you want them to be at, though.

I haven't tried a walkmesh helper below ground level, but at/above ground level the walkmesh helper overrides basically anything, including walls. That tile looks like it's open there, so you should be able to put in a walkmesh helper at the height you want for the creature to stand on.

For the above ground helpers I know. I made NPCs sleeping in beds like that once. I will try bellow level and see what happens.

I'll check if it works later.

By the way, the wall trick was really nice in Crimmor and it's the way I use to make secret rooms too.

I'll be damned.

It is not easy, because the objects do get invisible when lowered beneath the tile, even at an empty one. But I checked the height placement of the creatures and placed the helpers there. They behaved :).

Another option would have been to create a placeable VFX using the creature model, and having it loop the idle animation. VFX don't care about walkmeshes, and the model should remain visible without going all Al Jolson on you.

Yet another option would have been to create a new creature appearance type with the tentacle model used in the Evard's Black Tentacles spell (something I've done myself).

I completely forgot about this spell. Wouldn't the easiest solution in situations like these be to just apply an effect on an ipoint, an effect being the spell tentacles?

That's certainly an option, although the spell effect has a very annoying looping sound attached to it. A copy of the SEF without the sound would be easy enough to make.
