Where was the information publically available though, I don't remember seeing anything on gamespot, ign, games radar, or the bioware page for dragon age. Mind you, I could find very little in general on the game before it got released, it wasn't sold nearly as enthusiastically as DAO or DA2. Mind you, gaming 'journalism' is less credible these days, so maybe the game sites weren't seen as a useful marketing function anymore for this game.

Seems like this exclusivity was botched in that they got none of the positives and all of the negatives from the agreement.

All that said, I'm admitting that I was ignorant in this... even if I'm saying I have plenty of excuses for that ignorance.

This isn't so much an issue of money as it is manpower. They don't have the time/ resources to put out new content.
They just want to crap out new games, wipe and gtfo

I don't know about others, but I don't want another edition of Dragon age or Mass Effect every year.

Maybe Microsoft forgot about the exclusivity following all the delays :)
That said, it feels like they only signed the deal to improve their E3 conference and it was news-worthy for some sites. That said, they seem to be working with BioWare/EA - the game was discounted multiple times and there were trial periods.

I've actually decided not to buy the next Tomb Raider game exactly because of that "timed exclusive" BS. The TR: Underworld dlc was *never* released at all on the PS3 and this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Sure, the reboot was a good game and I was looking forward to the sequel, but I vehemently disagree with that kind of business practice, doesn't matter what platform I play games on and to see EA doing it now... I'm kind of ashamed I bought Jaws of Hakkon now.

OT: No.

OT: You know, if they fire the testers that let this game go through with so many bugs, half the supervisors that forgot to announce said flaws, 2 Dpt. Heads and one semi-important collar, suddenly they have the money AND the motivation to go for more DLC`s.

Having said that, I really really really fail to understand why would anyone even think of putting personal money on a sub-par product that is already bankrolled by one of the 2 largest publishers around.

Timed exclusives seem to be the best of the bad options, but maybe you would prefer permanent exclusive? or maybe you would like to pay extra to make up for the exclusivity deals? or - in the case of new Tomb Raider - have the game delayed on all platforms?

As for the Underworld DLCs, Crystal Dynamics only made the 360 version in-house. The game was ported to other platforms by Nixxes, which is an external company - porting the DLC would most likely require Eidos to contract them again. This was probably not worth the money, which makes you wonder whether the content would have existed were it not for Microsoft.

I myself would prefer permanent exclusives. It's a more honest seller-buyer arrangement in my opinion. None of this, 'we're selling you 90% of the product for 100% of the price' involved.

I the case of this particular DLC, I don't mind waiting a short time for single player content. Console exclusive content only released on one console is what annoys me. Even though usually that content is short and usually unimportant. Sometimes multiple pre-order bonuses with different dlc by different retailers gets really annoying as I then feel like I am missing out rather than gaining anything, as I don't want to order 3 copies of a game.
