remember having your full group together in lothering? remember getting that first full suit of heavy chain from the bandits?

remember the sound your group made when trudging through the countryside of ferelden? the clank of heavy plate... the jingle of chainmail... the chaffing of leather?

i was a little saddened by the lack of these sounds in DAI.

it really hit me today watching game of thrones-

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR GoT SEASON 4 ep- 1

when jamie was talking to his father in kings landing and tywin gave jamie the reforged valyrian steel sword, and jamie was in his kings guard suit, as he walked away from his father, mmmm, that sound, totally reminded me of the sounds of armor in DAO.

i'm guessing 1 of 2 things were the reason for not including such sounds in DAI...

1 some people plain didn't like hearing it along with footsteps etc, maybe it was monotonous for them.

or

2 bio simple didnt feel time/money/programming power was worth it.

i would love to know the answer though, and was wondering if there ever was a chance of this being added at a later date, and how many of you even care?

am i alone in this opinion?

it adds SO MUCH immersion for me, I would love to hear the gorgeous armor in DAI have sound and weight, it would just feel so incredible, given how incredible these armors already look!!!!

cheers.

What are you talking about? There are movement sounds... There are even visual and auditory responses to movement such as walking over snow, water, or marsh.

Armor doesn't clink as much (only boots clink in DAI), but that was literally the only thing that DAO did to give "life" to the armor. It was cool but there is so much more now.

Remember how attire remained static and didn't move at all nor make any sounds with the movement/combat animations and environmental effects such as wind?

Playing a mage with robes has never been more animated for example, especially since spells have unique animations as well now.

Also it's important to note that the clinking armor was often the only sound playing in the environment. It served a purpose, but in DAi that is covered by the animated environment. They want you to hear the rustling of the leaves and the creaking of a river as you explore. Adding clinking armor would just congest it.

I didn't notice the lack of those sounds in DAI,  I will have to pay attention next time I fire up the game.

My Warden made that sound even when naked. I guess she was made of sterner stuff than I thought.

DA2 and DAI is not Dragon Age, just fantasy hack n slash with the DA name slapped on it.

Do not wonder why there is stuff missing.

I disagree, both sequels are Dragon Age they just aren't clones of the first game. I guess you never want game makers to try to improve their games.

I fully agree. I'm actually glad it's not the same anymore because hearing all that clinking behind/around my inky would make me feel like she also has the Skyhold kitchen staff along with her team. I always found it slightly annoying. I prefer DAI style sounds.

Surely then Origins isn't really Dragon Age, given that the majority of the series is "fantasy hack n slash"....

Damn it, OP. You're urging me to boot up DAO again just to see if you're right or not. But I know if I turn DAO on, I'm going to play it non-stop.

Didn't you know? Everything must be exactly like it was in Origins. No better, no worse.

I was just as glad that the full "running in chainmail" thing kinda died down a bit in DA2. Can you imagine how it would have sounded as each of lady Hawke's thighs rotated completely around the other every time she took a step? Now imagine she was wearing corduroy. She would have self-combusted!

At the same time it can't be exactly the same because then BioWare is just being lazy and not innovating at all either.

Bioware is lazy by not innovating ways to keep it exactly the same. Duh

making  sequels is to refine the base formula, all 3 games are so far apart in gameplay style that its not the same games from one to an other. Only the lore is same.

Bioware did not improved anything, they changed the series from game to game beyond recognition. DA2 is a hack n slash with interactive story bits, DAI has a MMO game play style with interactive story bits, Far from the RPG DAO is.

Well, consider that, after 10 years, the people at Thedas discovered better armor lubrication.

I do miss the heavy chainmail from origins, also miss the look of the light armor in origins.  Those should have been available as schematics in DAI
