I just got my gaming PC and on my old one I was only able to play this game on medium settings with no mods. Now I'm able to play it on max settings with as many mods as I see fit :)

I don't want to mod it up too much where it looks silly , however I do want enough mods to make me believe PC was the way to go with this game. I've noticed a bunch in nexus like Redesigned , Improved Atmosphere even Ser Gilmore lol.

For a total new experience with Origins on the PC will those 3 mods due? anymore I should try using?

Now this is a thread I can participate in!

Grey Wardens of Ferelden - Gives all Grey Wardens in the main campaign and Awakening the Grey Warden Armours from DA2. Depending on your class you'll recieve a set after the Joining, and Herren in Awakening has an infinite amount of each type on hand. I believe the final boss in Return to Ostagar drops Grey Warden Commander armour, but I don't actually remember.

Templars of Ferelden - Templars have the DA2 armour, and Cullen has a more DA2 appearance. This can be argued as being more of a taste mod, but having it gives much more consistency with DA2.

Improved Atmosphere - A massive mod that makes hundreds of tiny changes. Namely, restored party banter, tweaks to the NPCs, party selection more common (Looking at you Denerim Market Square), dozens of new armour and weapon drops, etc. This really is a must have.

Extra Dog Slot - This makes the Dog a summonable, instead of taking up a companion space. The only problem I've had with this mod is for the Landsmeet. When the Landsmeet comes up, you have to desummon him, otherwise the game crashes.

Lock Bash - Makes locks bashable if you can't unlock them.

Dragon Age Redesigned - A massive reworking of virtually every NPC with some exceptions. Definitely worth a look, if not a download.

I have tons more mods, but these pop into my mind as must haves.

You my friend seem to know his stuff :) would you recommend Ser Gilmore? I've played this game countless times on the 360/PS3 so it's most likely I'll take up everything you just listed there. (As I stated before I do want mods but I don't want them to look silly like having fabulous curly hairstyles in this time lol)

Be careful with mods that alter too much to your game.  Some don't play well with others and can actually cause issues, breaking it.  Ser Gilmore is a fantastic mod (I have used it) but it has a long list of mods that are incompatible.  Double check others to see what's compatible, what conflicts etc.  Personally after using Improved Atmosphere I had issues with it and had to remove it from my game, and completely reinstall the game itself, it corrupted my files so badly, putting invisible walls all over the field.  I do not know if it was IA itself (I never ran it with Gilmore) or if it was another mod that conflicted, but I learned the hard way not to alter too much to the game.

I used mods to mostly fix issues the developers never did (misplaced plot flags, broken dialogues).  IRS Alistair, Morrigan restoration patch and ZDF do a nice job and work well together with minimal adjustment.  Cosmetic mods (makeup/hair mods), and armor mods added a lot to the game.  I also downloaded the toolset and taught myself how to make new appearances and insert them into the file for NPCs in the game--it's very easy.

Adds another storage chest to the party camp.

I left out of my list one of the more important mods, the ZDF dialogue fix.

Also, sylvanaerie's advice is excellent.

I started with this list and went from there, with the exception of Equal Love, Poligamey, the SA face mods (I was already used to Leli and Morri's vanilla looks), the Elf Update (DA2 vanilla elves look like Na'vi to me) and the mods that add companions.  Like sylvanaerie said, I tend to prefer mods that add to what's already there or fix bugs the developers overlooked.  I've never messed with mods like Improved Atmosphere because my comp already has memory issues when running graphics-intensive games.

(BTW, mousestalker, you also left Gatekisses off your list.)

Extra Dog Slot: Keep the dog in your party without sacrificing a party slot.

Extended Dog Talents: Gives your dog some more talents to play with.

Dog Gift Tweaks: Essentially makes the dog gits useful by giving the dog small stat boosts since it's friendship doesn't really need to be raised.

More Hairstyles: Gives you more hairstyles to play with. Let your Warden be unique and special! Special star!

DrDJs Bandit Emporium - Character Creator Scars: Gives you facial scars to choose from in character creator. Have your Warden look like someone who's actually survived the massacre of Ostagar.

CharGenMorph Compiler: A handy tool utility that will make sure certain mods stay compatible. Easy and quick to run.

Pineappletree s Vibrant Colors: Adds a lot of extra color tones to the character creation. Remember to run the CharGen Morph Compiler after all the mods are installed to ensure full compatibility.

No Helmet Hack: Heavenly! Essentially it lets you toggle "hide helment" on a per-character base with a handy little rulebook in your inventory.

Lock Bash: Can't stand not being able to open a lock but don't want to make Lockpicking completely pointless? Lock Bash lets you smash open locks but at the risk of losing whatever was in them.

Madd Gift Guide: No more will you be stuck confused about who to give gifts to. This adds notes to the gift tooltips that tell you who the intended receiver of said gift is.

Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialog Fixpack: This mod restores several missing and fully voiced scenes to the game relating to Morrigan in addition to fixing innumerable issues with various parts of her dialogue not triggering correctly. These scenes were always intended to be in the final game but were likely cut due to scheduling issues. The mod also restores several new party banter dialogs involving Morrigan, Leliana & Alistair

Theta HD: Increases the resolution and detail of some of the uglier assets of the game. Its wonderful. Look at the page for image comparisons.

Dialogue Tweaks: Some dialogue tweaks and fixes. Read page for better in depth description.

ZDF Dialogue Fix: More dialogue fixes.

Universal Dye Kit: Basically lets you customize your armor and weapon color tints. Look at the page for picture comparisons. Awesome stuff.

Faster Move Speed: This increases your exploration move speed. Now backtracking through those large maps doesn't feel like a slug trying to win a marathon. Combat speed is unchanged.

Aegrus HD Faces: This is subjective but I adore it. Its a bit heavy on the freckles, imo, but after you get used to it its hard to go back to the default. After playing with this and looking at default faces everyone looks so... fake. Their skin looks too smooth, spotless, like plastic dolls. Though again this is highly subjective so I suggest browsing through the images on the page and deciding if its for you. Even if you don't think you'd like it, maybe still try it out for a while. You might be surprised. Its easy to remove if you don't like it, of course.

Auto-Loot: I cannot imagine playing the game without this. Its absolutely a must for me. No more bringing up loot windows and clicking "take all". Now you just click the loot and take it. Or use the "auto loot nearby" power binded to a key to have your characters automatically loot everything in the area. Such a time saver. Just be mindful that there is one quest (one of the thief quests) that doesn't play well with it and you'll have to toggle it off to get the items. Easy to do ingame sinch it has a "on/off" spell. Not a gamebreaker regardless.

No Follower Auto-Level: Prevents followers from automatically leveling when they join the party. You decide what they get to waste their spec points on, not them!

AWAKENING MODS: Warning, you need to have the Awakening expansion DLC for these to work.

Awakening in the OC: Brings the talents and abilities from Awakening into the original base game.

Awakening in the OC Merchant Supplement: Compliments the above mod by adding some of the Awakening materials to the vendor lists such as those needed for Runecrafting.

Awakening Silverite Mines Bugfix: Fixes some of the really, really annoying bugs with Silverite mines.

Gift Guide: Its basically Madd's Gift Guide in Awakening.

I also used a few archer-centric mods to make my archer more badass. Such as increasing bow power and increase firing speed and talent speed. If you plan to play an archer I'll add links if interested. There's also a few console-command mods if you're into that sort of thing. I had to use the console a few times myself to work through bugs I had with the game. Well, didn't HAVE to... but it was easier to run the "runscript killallhostiles" command then to fight through the final boss battle against just because the game crashed the first time.

If interested in those, let me know.

Ardonnays Weapon Replacer - Changes the original toy looking swords and daggers with better looking models.

Add Any Item - Will add a console command that will return a list of items in game for convenience or if an item doesn't appear.

Witcher 2 - Adds Witcher 2 armor models into the game and they look superb! You need to sign into Nexus to view the mod.

BTW Improved Atmosphere adds a lot to the immersion, but it doesn't always play well with other mods.

Wow, I use a lot of mods for DAO. And they all work wonderful together.

I don't have time to list them all right now...

If you like romance, don't forget Improved romance Scenes -Alistair, Zevran romance Scenes and Leliana romance Scenes ;)

And for a happy ending, DahliaLynns Royal wedding, both Zevran weddings (Dalish and mine) and the Grey Warden weddings

For me my short list are:

- Advanced Tactics: Adds basic common-sense options to the tactics menu, like being able to set tactics for the "dead" status condition (e.g. having your healers auto-revive), which I don't think are in the vanilla game. I think it also has various bug-fixes.

- Lock Bash: as mentioned, allows non-rogue classes to open locked chests, but with the risk of destroying or losing items inside so it's not a complete cake-walk.

Gift Guide: Adds names to the special character "gift" items so you know who they're intended for. Beats having to go online constantly and look them up.

If you finish the game and decide you want to have some "fun" with it, then I recommend:

- All Can Learn: Allows any class to learn any skill, including specialization skills. One of my most fun playthroughs was as a rogue who cast magic (I had to custom-make a mod to enable him to use lyrium potions, though) - I had him freezing enemies with Cone of Cold, then moving around for a backstab, then doing a group-heal, and there was still a decent challenge because I had to allocate attribute points / skills everywhere and the stamina / mana pool is still limited.

- Meta Game Items: A collection of super-useful items that allow you to do things like summon / switch companions from anywhere, respec your characters' skills points, and even change your class within the game.

- Equal Love: Removes race and gender restrictions on companion romances.

Skip the Fade: okay, play through the Fade entirely at least once, but honestly I use this for all subsequent playthroughs.

They have an outdated link for Leliana's first night. It is included in LRS and not at this location any more.
