Solas - He's pretty cool. Always calm and collected. He likes demons and spirits a little too much. Not really a main member of my party.

Varric - He's funny likeable. His crossbows cool has good crits. I often have him in my party.

Blackwall - His personality is lacking but he more then makes up for it in battle. I always have him as my #1 tank.

Cassandra - Strong and noble woman. I like her probably because theres a limited amount of likeable female characters. Sometimes bring her along.

Iron Bull - I don't like him and I'm not sure why. He wasn't very nice to my Qunari IQ but I didn't really like him before that. Him or his side kick Krem. Never use him

Vivienne - She's kind of annoying sometimes but I like her. She pretty strong and independant minded. I use her often as my main mage.

Cole - Cole's awesome and creepy. He helped me when he first showed up and I felt kind of protective of him and nobody seemed to like him. I don't use him that much because I usually only run 1 rogue (Varric)

Sera - I can't really stand her. I don't like how she talks in riddles. I do think she's a good character in the game. I just find her annoying and never use her.

Dorian - I don't know much about him other then he's gay. Most of my time playing so far is pre skyhold so I haven't had him around much. No opinion on him yet.

I have a "main party" setup using Cassandra, Varric and Solas, as they seem to have the most important dialogue options in the zones (Solas's elven relics thing, Varric's red lyrium thing, and my dude likes chick sin tight leather outfits...)

As a mage myself, I find Vivian condescending, but sine she is my second knight enchanter, ice mage, she frequently comes dragon hunting. I've told her I don't advice...

Solas is kind of soul-less, but what the heck, he keeps the party standing with his healing stuff, so he comes often. Loftier attitude than any circle trained mage, which I find weird, and not like any previous elves either...

I frown upon the Tevinter excesses, and necromancers in particular, but Dorian is a immolater (fire mage) specialization, so I take him when I need him. His comments about the Tevinter faction can be funny, and he's a bit of a drama queen-rich boy, so everyone beats down on him, which makes for some good banter

Varric, well, what can you say. The heart of the party, always has a funny thing to say. And his Bianca rocks

Sera, not my favourite, has a bit of a trench mouth, but she is a very useful archer, and I rotate her and Varric around (based on their armor specializations)

Cole is just plain strange, and as a dps assassin, I rarely need him, except for some general zone touring, or sometimes I'll take him if the area is narrow (I like to role play that archers might be useless, which off course they aren't thanks to Bioware....)

Cassandra is my only tank, so when the going gets tough, she's in.

Blackwall is pure dps 2-handed wrecking machine, which I take on all the Grey Warden related stuff, except the Adamant thing (I was concerned he might become corrupted). His humor is, well, dry to say the least.

And Iron Bull, well, he was useful when I needed a really tall jumper to get a shard in the Hinterlands (where the dragon roosts)...so, I take him along maybe 1:10

After hearing Dorian talk about Tevinter slaves and how well dressed he is. I don't like him. Doubt I will use him much.

Dorian is everything and I never leave Skyhold/Haven without him unless I have to. Last two games as a KE (including the nightmare run) I  took my super team of Cass/Sera/Dorian/myself. T

his game I don't have all the team members yet and I'm a 2 handed warrior, so the party composition will most likely be different.  But always Dorian. Probably Dorian/Solas/Sera or Varric/myself.  I might do more Varric this game, but my Qunari Hannah is trying to romance Sera.  I always like to take along my romance prospect if they are party eligible.

The more I play, the less I like Vivienne's personality.  Conversely, the more I play the more I like Sera.  Started out disliking her.  But now we're cool.  I do like Bull and Cass (and don't mind Dour McSads Blackwall) but don't need another warrior in my group this game.  I like taking Cole around for the interactions with the rest of the party but I hate having to micromanage him (and I don't want to respec him as an archer). I am not a fan of Solas, but again, I don't hate him.  I think in this game he is going to be my default second mage since I'm not playing on nightmare and do not need a KE (usually I'm the KE so Viv never gets used).

My party seems limited to Blackwall, Viv and Varric. If I want 2 mages add Solas or 2 tanks add Cas. I think on my next playthrough I will use Cole as my only rogue he's probably my favorite character.

My last game was pretty much the FemQuisition, aka Sisterhood of the Travelling Inquisition.  This time, I'm playing 2H Qunquizzy, going to tank and romance Sera.  I never bring Solas out, and i romanced Dorian my first playthrough, so Solas finally gets his shot.  Cole for the same reason as Solas,   Looks like mainly Solas, Cole & Sera...unless i die too much lol

I think one time, i'm going to go OG, probably when i romance Cass - play with Cass, Varric & Solas the entire game, except for quest-related stuff.

Companions in order of adoration:

Dorian - Love, love, love him!!! I am occasionally snarky (read: quite often), so i enjoy his humor.  Plus, beneath that posturing is a rather fragile person, who responds to kindness with such gratitude - he was my bf, then my bff.

Cassandra - love me an a** kicking woman, and she has her own surprises, definitely looking forward to romancing her

Sera - makes me laugh probably the hardest of anyone.  I know a lot of people find her annoying, but she says exactly what's on her mind, no edit button on that tongue lol

Vivienne - tongue as sharp as glass, but she also makes me lol  I mean sure she's a bish, but she never hides who she is or what she wants.

Varric - love him, but he's lost something since DA2, he's seen a bit too much and there is a weariness about him in this game.  I wish i could cheer him up (so far, my choices at adamant haven't helped any)

Cole - has an interesting personal journey, and i enjoy talking with him.  His insights into the companions can be quite illuminating.

Iron Bull - strangely, i expected to really like him, but haven't warmed up to him yet.  i do have a red-headed elf in mind for him, so perhaps i will get to see a new side to him.

Blackwall - i'll need to get to know him better, he's so gruff and a bit of a downer, again when he's up on the romance rotation, we'll see what new sides that reveals

Solas - he was kind of mean to my elf-quizzy, maybe because she was with cullen, or because she pretty much told him to stuff his elfier than thou bs, she wasn't buying any...will definitely be my last romance option.

Edited because I forgot Cole - oh, the irony!

Blackwall - My main tank and permanent member in my team. Also one of my three LI's.

Dorian - I adore the guy, as much as Blackwall. Also almost always in my team and one of the three LI's (Cullen is third LI).

Cassandra - I like her but her place is usually taken by Blackwall.

Sera - She's hilarious.

Cole - Sweet and funny.

Varric - I really like him but don't use him much in the team. His party panter feels a bit dull.

Bull - I do like him and he's hilarious, as well. He's often in my team and the Bull-Sera-Blackwall combo is seriously funny.

Solas - He's okay but not very interesting and I don't use him much. Dorian takes his place in my team, anyways.

Vivienne - I deeply dislike her and never ever use her in my team. I do recruit her but after that, I leave her to gather dust on her balcony at Skyhold.

Sera - She's my soulsister so she's default.

Varric - While I do like him, I use him the least because he was my Hawke's default.

Cole - He's a cutie, but sadly I don't really need two rogues so he mostly stays in Skyhold.

Dorian - Such a great guy, if I need a mage, Dorian is my man.

Brolas - Since I found out about his dickishness he stays in his rotunda. May the birds poo on you butthead.

Vivienne - I take her when I go to the Fallow Mire. Yes Vivi, I can be petty too.

Cass - I love Cass, so she's my main tank.
Blackwall - I love him too, but not as much as Cass. He comes along when I need two warriors.

Iron Bull - He's kinda hilarious but he can't beat Cass and the Wall. I do take him for the occasional mayhem spree.

So, the characters I like most - Sera, Dorian, Cass - are my usual party.

My party is like yours most of the time.  [Blackwall, Viv and Varric] - Aka Team Serious including Cass..   But I did played a rogue male Inquisitor, So I basically had Cass, Blackwall and Viv.

My "current" Elven male Rift Mage has Cassandra, Viv and Varric. As you can see I can't do anythign without having either Blackwall and Vivienne in my party in my nightmare mode. Their Specializations is too op. And the way I set their AI tactics makes them unstoppable.

I've already learnt of the elven lore, fade and about spirits... So Cole and Solas barely in my team sometimes.

I like to rotate them all to get different banter, but the ones I like the least and therefore use the least are Cole and Vivienne.  I love Dorian's conversations with just about anyone, so I use him a lot.  I like the rest ok, so I just swap them all out for variety.  Dorian, Varric, Sera and Blackwall are my most used.

Solas - He's absolutely fascinating. I adore him and use him all the time.

Cass - I adore her too. She's strong, kind and strong :)  I use her all the time too.

Varric - He's ok, personable but ultimately not very interesting.

Sera - I like her, despite her many flaws, but can't really handle how loud (and occasionally infantile) she is in my party. I alternate between her and Varric for a rogue until Skyhold.

Cole - He's awesome. A little creepy but he means well. He's a permanent member of my party along with Solas and Cass.

I like Dorian and Iron Bull well enough but not enough to travel with. I rather dislike Blackwall, so when he says "Would've LIKED to have been there", in THAT tone, I just smile and say, would you now? (aka Dream on sucker). Vivienne, well, I made the mistake of letting her join in my first playthrough, and that's enough Vivienne for me.

I do try to change the party members around to experience different interactions and banter, but with banter firing so rarely, it's just not really worth it most times.

Solas - He's pretty chill and respectable, but with all of the stuff going on with - nvm, I won't spoil it for some. Hard to explain anyways.

Vivienne - I've always had a knack for arrogant characters (except for Nazeem), and Vivienne is usually in my party. We need a healer and a tank #2.

Sera - Funny, but uh, I think she likes sandals a bit too much. The outfits seem a bit odd at times. Gameplay is eh.

Cole - Love as a character, especially on my playthrough where I chose templar. Always in my party. Also, mark of death + hidden blades = no brainer.

Iron Bull - Cool, chuck norris type of guy, but whenever I try and use him, he's always on low health and doesn't use abilities to back him up.

Cassandra - One of my favorites, in some playthroughs she's in da party and in others she's not.

Varric - Varric might be my crossbow homie, but when it comes to picking a rogue, gotta roll with Cole.

Blackwall - Hi, I have no emotions. I don't use him on my current playthrough because I already have a tank -- me!

Dorian - Witty humor and sarcasm is my type, plus he's kind of underused it seems. And the giant skulls of Horror as well as a 5th member count him in my party.

Always:

Dorian: My fav mage, so I always have him in the party, also I love his banter with everyone. (I would call him my main mage, but my fem!Qunari is a mage herself, so~)

Cole: my baby, I take him everywhere, his Assassin specialization is deadly.

Additional Charas:

Cassandra: my main tank, she's wonderful, but I don't take her along as much as I want to. (mostly side quest related approval reasons)

Varric: I love him since DAII, so I take him along as often as I can.

Solas: I like to hear his conversations with Cole, so I often take him along. Same for when I go to any place elf related.

Rarely:

Iron Bull: I like him, but I prefer Cassandra as tank. Tho I always take him along when I decide to fight a high dragon, cause it makes him happy.

Blackwall: He's okay, strong and a great fighter, but not really my first choice because I don't find him that interesting.

Sera: Also a great fighter, but she swears too much for my taste.

Vivienne: I want to like her, but I always get mad whenever I hear her talk about pro-circle stuff.

for once as a rogue I don't have to bring sera or cole, its not that I don't like them I just feel other party members are better

Cassandra is first, you always need a tank

solas second, rift mage epic, adds variety to the party

and last but not least dorian for comedy and his hadny necromancer spells, 5th ally.

Vivienne comes for boss killing, I don't agree on her stance with mages though

blackwall back up tank if I need him

iron bull keeps dying a lot so I refrain from bringing him unless I want to hear the banter

varric for the dorian role until I get dorian

Vivienne is by far my favourite character in the whole series so in all but my Solas romance playthrough, she has a permanent spot on my team once recruited. (Which I always do ASAP). Whether or not I take other companions is largely based on how much I enjoy their banter with her.

Cassandra is my second favourite of the available companions so has a near permanent spot. Only when I'm grinding approval of characters like Bull and Blackwall do I leave her out. The only real con with Cass is that I find her banter with Viv dull for the most part.

Iron Bull also had a near permanent spot in my first playthrough. His banter with Viv is great he's also got interesting stuff to say about the environments and such. Sadly, he dies almost immediately when hunting dragons. :(

Varric is my go to rogue. I didn't enjoy him in DA2 at all, but I really enjoy DAI Varric. Plus his banter with Vivienne is top notch. But I do tend to play rogue and don;t really need another rogue in my party.

Sera I take every now and then when I'd rather listen to her than Varric. But there's still my problem with having two rogues.

Solas is an interesting one. I don't like him personally, but I really enjoy him as a companion. I take him every now and then. I was more interested in him in my first playthrough for his comments on elven ruins, but now that I've experienced what he has to say, I'd rather listen to the others talk.

Dorian, I'd be lying if said I particularly cared for his character. Sometimes he has fun things to say, but for the most part, it's just the same problem I had with DA2 Varric. It's the witty, funny, charming character that I struggle to find witty, funny or charming most of the time.

Blackwall I quite dislike. I hate his attitude and things he says, find him boring as watching paint dry as Blackwall, and find him despicable as Thom.

I don't recruit Cole. Hate him with a passion to be honest. My least favourite companion of the entire series.

I used Solas, Cassandra, Varric, Cole, and Dorian a lot my first file, and I don't really see that changing this time around, either. They're all pretty fantastic characters IMO. They tip the game's cast above those of its predecessors. Still not on ME2/ME3 levels of epic, but not far behind.

Of the remaining four, I'm mixed. Iron Bull is pretty cool. FPJ's love for voice acting is infectious, too, and I'm glad he got to come back to BioWare after ME3. Sera is hit-or-miss, as is Blackwall. Vivienne is my second least favorite companion in the franchise, after Oghren. She'd have benefited from more to do, though, whereas Oghren would have benefited from... less. >_>;

I love hearing all the companion banters so I rotate as much as I can between all of them over multiple playthroughs. However, my first playthrough was largely Blackwall, Vivienne and Varric. It was a real drag listening to Blackwall and Vivienne. I honestly thought they'd turn a corner like Isabela and Aveline did so I hung in there to the very end, but that moment never came. I didn't appreciate the downer vibe that permeated my entire playthrough and didn't want to repeat that. I considered Vivienne to be the instigator and benched her for the most part. I've heard her banters with other companions and she's honestly fine with them, but overall she's not relaxing to be around.

Blackwall - Permanent party member #1. I like him and his story, and his Champion tanking is unbeatable, so I can make him a 2-hander with no issues.

Cassandra - I also like her story, even more than Blackwalls, but she's not always in my party after Haven unless it's her companion quest. Templar support rocks thought.

Iron Bull - Likable enough and doesn't suffer from Sten's gameplay issue, but not one of my favorites. Having a Reaver with Fade-Touched Silverite makes him workable.

Solas - Favorite party member in the game, everything about him grabs my attention. Rift Mage Barrior Support and Debuffing makes him permanent party member #2.

Vivienne - One of my most disliked and liked. With the nerf to Disruption Field I no longer have a need for an A.I. Knight Enchanter so she's not used so much anymore  and not used on boss fights period.

Dorian - Look I like you Dorian, but you're a Necromancer. No amount of liking you will make me want to use you.

Cole -  I like him almost as much as Solas. I didn't use him much because of how finicky A.I. Stealth gets but he can hit hard so I'm changing that.

Sera - She sucks as a person and she lost her only reason for me to bother with her when Tempest lost that exploit.

Varric- Cool as usual. Artificer is a lot of fun when you put the work into it. Basically If I don't use Cole I use Varric.

Cass- Templar spec is OP in the right condition. When you get Iron Bull or Blackwall spec her to 2 handed setup. Good choice as a 2nd warrior for 2 warrior party setup.

Solas- Rift Mage has Pull of the Abyss. That thing is powerful. Useful for support and crowd control more than direct damage.

Varric- The passive that grands cooldown reduction on crit was nerfed. Before that, he was VERY powerful, non-stop spamming of abilities with the right setup. After that? I should try probably 2 Artificer party setup focused on crits.

Vivienne- Mostly I spec her for either massive barriers or massive damage using the passive that halves your barrier for more damage. By far my most used mage.

Sera- after Opportunity Knocks nerf, she is probably the better archer between her and Varric. A fully upgraded Tempest tree is insane.

Iron Bull- I think using him as a 2 handed damage dealer is wrong, because he draws too much agro and dies too quickly. He is suprisingly effective as a tank, using as much life leech equipment as possible, he can also deal massive amounts of damage when needed to.

Blackwall- s&s with him is an overkill. He is unkillable at higher levels even he just runs around. I didn't try 2 handed setup with him, but probably he can tank without a shield just as well. Should try this sometimes.

Cole- Assassin is powerful. He is effective both as an archer and as dual wield. I do prefer him DW, but I don't use him much for some reason.

Dorian- Not as good in support as Solas, not as powerful attacker as Vivienne. His abilities scatter enemies, prevent you to deal effective AOE damage, and the raise monster ability is bugged and annoying, by far my least used mage.

I rotate them through depending on what is going on. When doing the inner circle quests I like to have who evers I am working on with me. I myself play a SnS champion so as to who I like to have with me.

Cass first, especially if I know enemy mages will be around. She is just super tough and good in a fight. Also I just really like her character and her banter with most of the others.

Bull, if I am unsure of what I am running into then I take him cause he can really clear a battlefield. Great fighter and funny banter with some of the others specially Dorian.

Blackwall, almost never use him since he is just like my PC. His character is alright just least favorite of the fighters. I did change him to 2H and he does pretty good there.

Sera, she is really good with her bow and she is absolutely hilarious. Love listening to her banter with anyone else. I just wish she did not have the tempest specialization as some it just does not work for bows and seems more suited to cole.

Varric, pretty good in a fight and pretty funny to listen to.

Cole, don't use him unless I have to. Don't like him and have now real use for DW rouge the way I play.

Dorrian, real good in a fight, seconded him in spirit so he helps out the party pretty good. Gets into some very interesting conversations with the others.

Viv, pretty good in a fight, knows all the nastiest spells. Kinda cool if stuck up a bit but she can have some nice banter.

Solas, ok in a fight but he is just kinda boring for me.

Cassandra: I have a hard time going anywhere without her. She's useful and funny at the same time.

Blackwall: He bores me and I don't like his attitude towards Dorian. I only take him out to get the Grey Warden artefacts.

Iron Bull: Again, I almost never take him anywhere, except at least one dragon fight so his convo about it makes sense.

Varric: He's cool. I like having him around, especially in the Hissing Wastes.

Sera: Meh. I play rogue, so I don't need her. I only take her out if I'm using Vivienne as a mage.(glorious bickering!)

Cole: I really like having him around in the Frostback Basin. He has lots of interesting comments about what goes on there. Same with the Exalted Plains. He makes them bearable.

Solas: Meh. He's my second mage if I take two out. I like how he geeks out with Dorian.

Dorian: He's my main mage. For all his arrogance, he has a good heart and he's witty.

Vivienne: She stays at Skyhold. I don't like her.

Blackwall - He is a cool character and is usually my Inky's close friend. Love his banter with Sera. He is one of my main tanks, use him for tough battles when I need someone to taunt a lot and draw aggro.

Dorian - I use him as my main mage and he is usually my Quizzy's gay bff.

Cassandra -  Love her character and banter. Shares the main tank spot with Blackwall.

Sera - Best character ever IMO. She is funny and kicks so much ass. She has a permanent place in my party... and my heart. <3

Vivienne - Ugh, hate her so much. She usually warms the bench at Skyhold. Sometimes I will use her when I need a strong mage.

Cole - I like his character but his banter kind of bugs me. Warms the bench next to Vivi.

Varric - Kind of bores me. Don't use him much.

Bull - He's an awesome character and all, but I hardly use him because he dies so easy on Nightmare. I only bring him when he is a really high level and I don't have to babysit him so he doesn't die.

Solas - Meh. Don't see what is so great about him tbh. I bring him when I need a good crowd controlling mage.

Too much hate for Vivianne here!. I like her banter (except when Blackwall is involved, she's too harsh for no reason at all), she's my default mage companion, unless I need someone with a specific spec.
