So I have been playing the game on PS4 since launch. But I also have a PC copy and finally got around to trying to get it to play on my computer. But wow do the controls suck something fierce. I can't for the life of me see how they thought this was the optimized control layout for the keyboard. Makes the game downright unplayable.
Ok I know I am late to the party but keyboard controls are HORRIBLE.

I hate to say this...but you can get used to it. I had been super excited for the release of the game for months and sat down to play the game as soon as it was released, but I nearly returned it upon trying the controls for 2 hours. I went to sleep and then decided I would make it through at least 10 hours to see if I could manage the controls. I still haven't returned it.
Do the controls suck? Yes. Can you get used to it enough to enjoy the game? Yes, but the beginning is awful and feels almost unplayable.
Once you start looking at the game as a console port, everything makes sense. For example, there was no way to walk with mouse/keyboard even though the functionality was there for a controller on pc. Any statement that the controls were designed for mouse/keyboard is a straight up lie (they have comments how it's "optimized for PC" which could be true if it refered to a controller on PC).

Also, a fair warning. They half implemented the auto attack, I knew it was too good to be true. You need to bind it to a separate key, then click on the enemy to attack them and then tap the assigned auto attack key. For. Each. Enemy. Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? I'm sorry but that's utterly disgusting. Make it so at the very least it can be bound to our right click, that way we don't need to fiddle with too many buttons to get it to work.
As much as Bioware say that they're PC driven, they really aren't. The proof is in the pudding and Biowares pudding is foul. I used to love Bioware so much, honestly my first thread ever was praising them on DAO but them focussing on making console players happy have in turn hurt their PC players immensely..
I still want to zoom in in combat and tooltips on the power bar. I'll never let those two things go, if we don't get them then I'm honestly done. As a die hard fan, I cannot support a company that will not support its customers.

Well there is now, at least with Patch 6, (can't remember if this was already in Patch 5.) Look at "Options --> Key Bindings".
Eighth one down is "Walk". Just assign it to any empty key, (There's always been a "Run" toggle.)
And regarding being able to "zoom in in combat", how closer do you want to be?

Funny you said that because they made it playable now
when it launched, holy moly that thing was atrocious you wouldn't believe it
I actually thought that something was wrong with me, that's how much hope I had for this game and bioware

Yes, they are FAR away from beeing perfect. But I'm playing since the game came out and it took me 1 or 2 days to get used to the controls and right now I'm having absolutely no ploblems with them.

They barely changed anything? They only added a walk toggle and allowed for more zoom on tactical camera.
I still don't understand what people find so bad about the controls. It didn't take me 5 minutes to "get used" to them.

How about you remap the keys to your liking now that it's possible to remap almost everything?
Takes less time than making a QQ forum post about it, don't you agree? ![]()

Does remapping the keys allow me to autoattack by simply clicking on an enemy?
Does remapping the keys allow me to click-to-move either an individual party member or my entire party?
Does remapping the keys allow me to move my party by holding down both mouse buttons simultaneously?
Does remapping the keys add actual functionality to the hold position function?
Nope.
And until it does I believe the 'QQ' (as you put it) is fully justified.

I think the key in me liking them was that I never even tried the default keymap. The first time I launched the game, I went immediately to the options menu to see what I needed to fix (seriously, BioWare, the Pause button should be Space), and from there it was just a matter of me learning it. It was a scheme I liked (because I built it so that I would), but I needed some practice with it.
The default settings would have been awful for me, but that's to be expected. We won't all want the same controls, but BioWare can only have one default, so that default is necessarily not going to suit some of us.

LOL, I wish we could do that. Your image is not a very accurate shot of what it really is..

Those aren't keyboard controls specific to the PC dear. Those are general movement and camera functionalities that are simply awkwardly implemented across all platforms.
QQ in the appropriate thread pls. I won't bother you there since you'll turn every valid complaint thread into a "Complain about everything in DA" support group.

This is not really accurate, as functions such as click-to-move, and mouse button movement require a mouse, which is intrinsic to PCs, thus console versions are not affected. Thus, the issue is specific to PC.

On the contrary. The only issue I wish to 'QQ' (as you put it) about is the PC controls, that is all.

The "click-to-move" issue translates across platforms but in a different form. Even people on consoles report awkward camera controls and party movement orders. Just plug in a joystick and you'll understand what I mean.
The OP made a post about the unoptimized keyboard layout, not missing or incomplete functionalities in the game.
The former can easily be solved by remapping the control scheme, as I said in my first post.
The latter are being worked on by the devs, hopefully. As far as patch history goes, it looks promising.
On the contrary. The only issue I wish to 'QQ' (as you put it) about is the PC controls, that is all.
Then join the appropriate thread in the feedback section. I empathize with your concerns and I share some of your complaints but this tangential discussion is only derailing the topic.

I quite like the KBM controls, but it took me about 20 hours to get used to them.

Yeah, that was my take on it. Some of the unusual keyboard defaults go back to DA:O, don't they? I did everything in DA:O with the mouse so I didn't notice until now.

Whether that's the case or not, Tyler Lee said on this forum that you could hold mouse buttons to move before release, so I think it's fair to expect it to make it into the game, and I think it's a fair criticism of KB&M controls in particular:
yep. Holding both LMB & RMB = W. It's based on our previous titles mouse and keyboard behaviour. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Edit: oops quoted click to move instead of using mouse to move. Still though.

DAO default control schemes were far more intuitive than DAI's for anyone who played an MMO such as WoW. ![]()

I agree, but this is irrelevant to the current default keyboard layout discussion.

LOL this is probably the only major change I did upon launching the game.
I swapped the jump and pause keys myself.

Been scouring the forums a bit, and came across this:

If this still works with the patch it will be a lifesaver!
