They kinda messed up their relationship with the fans (lying to the pc community being one of the things)

so yeah, people are probably going to respond harshly if they ever post anything

Yep. I cut them a little slack before I switched to PC and saw just how bad the port was for myself. And this just added insult to injury:

Yea no. People can whine and ***** about the fans all they want. This is never excusable ever. I paid good money for this damn game and spent as much time fixing it as I did playing it. When they apologize for that BS, maybe I'll give a damn about their hurt feelings from the fanbase.

We have been monitoring what people have been saying, and posting where and when we can. We are also actively collecting feedback from the forums and reviewing it internally. Granted our presence has not been as visible as people may like, and that’s also something we are working on. And hopefully we can work together to make this a better space for everyone.

Well thank you for posting. Hopefully things improve around here from both the fans that simply do not know how to communicate and the almost silence we've been having from devs post release. It would probably help to have someone dedicated in the company establish a liaison between the devs and us. Things used to be better before in that sense when we had an idea of who our community manager was but I don't really know how things work internally for you guys right now. so maybe that's not possible.

I always appreciate when you guys take time to drop by and visit and it sucks that those people who have crossed the line are ruining it for the rest of us who'd rather have a constructive conversation on things we'd like improvement upon. Bioware has always been really good in communicating with the fandom in comparison with other big companies, so it would be nice to get that connection back.

Cheers! :D

Yes, we still visit the forums and regularly come here to look for and solicit feedback from the community. We’ve been doing this quite regularly since launch, and have worked hard on implementing features and changes based on what we’ve been hearing.

To date we’ve made a number of changes to Inquisition based on feedback, and while these changes haven’t come as fast as some people may have liked, this is more a representation of the complexity of the task and the resources on hand, rather than a lack of desire or ability to implement it.

Some things simply take time, and some things that seem outwardly simple can be incredibly complex. Also, since we don’t have infinite programmers and QA sitting at infinite computers, we often have to make the difficult decision as to what to fix first.

And yes, some of these fixes were seemingly hacked in by modders, or in the cheat engine. And when you see these, people ask, “Well, why don't you just use X solution?” and generally the answer is, “because it's not really an ideal solution for all players/platforms.”

Press X to force fire banter, for example, isn't really a solution to players not experiencing the random banter as often as they would like. While you do get banter when you want it, it also takes away from the immersive feel that your companions are living, breathing people who occupy Thedas alongside you. (I guess you could head cannon that the Inquisitor is drunk on power and likes to beat conversation out of his followers, but that’s not necessarily how everyone might want to play.)

This series of tweets from Mark Darrah provides some insight into why we can’t always be as open with our community as they might like. As a publicly traded company, there are often some very specific have-a-government-official-come-kick-down-your-door reasons why you can’t say certain things at certain times in a certain way.

I really do appreciate your comment, thanks for that, honestly.

I hope you guys know some of the issues facing the auto attack. Also, I'm hopeful that you guys will implement the tool tips to show up on the power bar so that we can easily track what skills do without needing to memorise them and to finally allow us to zoom in while I'm combat. I know I've been preaching it a lot but it's something I'm very passionate about getting into the game before you guys stop supporting it. Thanks again! Any info on the above would also be appreciated if you're allowed to give us any.

They did communicate with the fans on these forums. Unfortunately some of those fans saw that as an opportunity to denigrate rather than communicate. Which simply ruined it for the rest of us.

Can they not permanently ban accounts? Things like that should have zero tolerance.

When people send death threats and threaten their children over a product they did not like i understand why they do not want to talk to players. They read feedback in here but most would rather not reply to people these days after DA2 and ME3.

Did someone actually do these things? Can you source that?

I agree, personal attacks on devs are stupid. I've seen some say the devs are idiots or liars rather than (or alongside) stating "I did not like this product cus x." But that's the worst I've seen on here.

I personally don't recall that with Inquisition (not saying it didn't happen, though), but I do recall former writer Jennifer Hepler being threatened as well as her family during Inquisitions development.

Regardless of whether that level has been reached or not, though, what I've seen is disgusting and in no way justifiable. Being a disgruntled customer is not license to say whatever you want because of reasons.

I've been a member of the Master Race since I started gaming in 1998 or so. I thought the PC interface was perfectly fine at launch. I rebound a few keys and it worked for my tastes. Not to say I don't appreciate the various changes they've added since, like auto-attack outside of tac cam or the ability to set the tac cam zoom level. But those weren't necessary, imo. So, YMMV.

The only problems I had at launch was the limitations of "hold" (needing to be in combat, the hold being negated on ranged characters when you ordered the companion in question to attack a specific person) and the limitations of the kind of tactics you can set up (I remember I wanted to be able to tell Varric to use Long Shot on any enemy that got frozen and was disappointed I couldn't). But those are combat system problems, not PC-specific, so... yeah. lol

We'be been PC gaming for about the same length of time then, and I agree with you. It initially felt a little clunky to me, but the biggest problems were actually the game as a whole and not the "PC" controls. *lack of a walk button aside*

The people that believe because they paid $60 or $100 or whatever for the game they can say what they like are complaining about holding the left and right mouse buttons to move...which is apparently a thing and a good enough reason to go to war.

Ok, I thought you'd meant it was something over Inquisition.

*lack of a walk button aside*

... Ok, I admit, I'd mentally blocked that out. lol I definitely needed that, but that's cus I'm a roleplaying dork. lol You should have seen me when I found it in my keybinds after patch 3 or w/e. Walked ALL OVER Haven. I'm glad people mentioned it in feedback and got it put in, but not a loss to get so up in arms about, imo, and claim the PC controls were broken. I've seen some people STILL complain about this now. Which I honestly think is a bit ridiculous.

I find that particularly funny in conjunction with the complaints about the game being "too much like an mmo theme park", cus the first time I encountered the holding down of both mouse buttons to move was IN an mmo. I am 99% sure it started there. (For the record, I *play* mmos and most of the complaints I see accusing DAI of being too much like an mmo are actually not listing features that are in mmos. So there's that, too... >_>)

I think some of the people complaining have never actually played an mmo, they just have the idea of what it's like in their heads.

They could do that but from my experience on multiple forums, the troll usually gives up with a strict moderation system.

I wonder - IP banning could help with return accounts? But that seems obvious, so I'm sure it's been considered. XD It isn't fail proof either. Too bad, always a pain when bans don't exactly stick. Just makes a community harder to moderate and organize efficiently.

Just wanted to throw out another thank you for this reply - even if you guys aren't as active here as you may have been in the past, it's still nice to see you jump in to reply to threads like this, and you have your reasons for holding back. Also nice that you guys have been noting the feedback! Very appreciated. :)

Well, that's just how a vocally loud part of the gaming community is: hateful, entitled, thinking they can do games better than the devs while they know nothing to begin with, and overall terrible human beings.

Most of the people I know working in the video game industry aren't even trying to communicate with fans. The hate and threats they would get is unfathomable, and yet, they have their hands tied as well, because after all, in a video game company, a lot of things can be political, and a lot of decisions can be made by the people who are superior to you, even though they know nothing, and even though people actually making the game know they're fucking up, but can't do crap about it without losing their jobs.

When there's big money, there's always frustrated people wishing to do things right, and there's always people wishing to make more profit regardless of quality. The joy of making AAA Games, right there: having to internally deal with various types of people, from the best to the worst.

Either way, I feel that Bioware are still trying to communicate, and I'm very thankful for that, because I have no idea how hard it must be, and how much hate they have to face and stomach in order to keep some communication alive. Mustn't be easy, for sure.

They're human most and foremost, but I guess it's easy & convenient for some to forget that simple fact.

Actually in the aftermath of DAII and probably the very early stages of DA:I

That's what I had heard too. She left to pursue freelance writing right? Of course it's not really an either/or situation, I can't imagine death threats would make you feel that comfortable working in the industry.

I was chatting with a dev recently and they shared that some of the weirder hate is easier to deal with because it has no meaningful consequence. It's when folk start sharing personal information or threatening personal legal action or to get the person fired that it becomes really unsettling.

Most posters are covered by anonymity so it's not a level playing field.

The developers use to come to this forum quite often. Allen would drop in on different threads. I had conversations with David Gaider, Mike Laidlaw and John Epler. Mary Kirby would drop in from time to time.

But, certain posters ruined it for the rest of us. Some of the developers actually got death threats after certain posts. Posters were saying all the developers should get fired. Then there was the ME3 ending and the whole forum became toxic.

Posters who defended DA2 as not being that bad were called everything from fools to idiots.

Posters started using other developers words (who were trying to help) against other developers (who were trying to help). It simply got ugly. Now Allen occasionally drops in on certain threads usually to warn us to keep it civil.

It is a shame that a few ruined it for the rest of us. Allen would actually allow threads to continue because he knew the posters in it would keep it civil.

This is the unfortunate truth.

The thing is I don't think its being about a safe environment, but a respectful one and if they were to moderate the forums to that point I think it would be about ten people here.

Yes, because that's never happened on forums before.
