I remember a guy called Saphra Deden in the old forum wanted for humanity become a reaper or to ally with the reapers. He was Dean-The-Young levels of tiresome. Don't be him.

Edit: Damn just noticed all those icons beneath the avatar. They need to be smaller, forum people! How do I make them smaller!

I remember them! Saphra freaked me out but Dean has some interesting ideas.

And I'm not like Saphra silly! I don't want to melt people, just the option to kill/conquer them with Cory, or willingly give up my to Cory.

This is kind-of like allying with Irenicus. I'm pretty sure siding with Corypheus beats offing yourself so he can get the Anchor.

Yes, I suppose not being able to side with Sarevok, Amelissan, Irenicus, The Enclave, The Transcendant One, Malak, Sun Li, The Archdemon, and Jacques de Aldersberg in their respective games (among many others) means those games are poor RPGs with no real freedom of choice.

Alternatively, Corypheus makes it perfectly clear he's out to kill you with his very first appearance and siding with him would be extraordinarily stupid.

You can side with Sun Li. Granted, he kills you, but you let him for the glory of the empire. I actually thought it was a cool little dialogue exchange.

It's a hilarious exchange:

Sun Li: "Well, just kill yourself and let me win."

SM: "Sure!"

Sun LI: "Wait, what?"

The VO was just perfect on that take.

BioWare's mission statement:

"Our vision is to create, deliver, and evolve the most emotionally engaging games in the world."

BioWare's value statement:

"Deliver the best story-driven games in the world."

While the may be praised for it, BioWare's intention is not to give you maximal choice. BioWare's intention is to craft a powerful, emotionally engaging storyline and then present that story to you in game format.

They have and are continuing to create the Dragon Age story. There are a limited number of ways to get from the beginning of the story to the end of the story while keeping the story coherent and internally consistent. These are further limited by available resources such as money, technology and personnel. These are even further limited by the demands of the guarantors of those resources, who themselves have demands placed on them, and so on.

What you are asking for quite obviously is not part of the story the are trying to tell. If shoehorned in, it would be exceedingly difficult to maintain cohesion and internal consistency. Even if that were possible, the available resources would be severely taxed. Even if the resources could be spared and still meet the demands of EA and any other entity they are beholden to, there is still the issue of market demand. While I cannot speak with certainty, I believe that the percentage of the playerbase who would enjoy playing as the evil overlord's fawning toadie until mounting a coup at the last big plot mission is so close to zero as to be considered zero.

Therefore, no, we should not be able to ally with Corypheus.

Completely true. Choice is a lovely thing, and can create rich and complex storylines, it's something Western RPG's do almost to the exclusion of other genres. But some choices are completely stupid and destroy the plot. Allying with Cory is a big one.

Exactly.

I said this before but Bioware would rather make Last of Us or Telltale's Wolf Among Us over Pillars of Eternity or Fallout: New Vegas.

For whom?

The Inquisitor. You spend the whole game killing off Cory's forces. So it would be out of character for the Inquisitor to decide to just up and let Cory kill her/him at some random point the game.

There is some presumption that your character is not completely bat **** crazy and so doesn't act randomly. Now if you were consistently playing a true neutral character all the way from the beginning of the game, then yes, it would be perfectly in character for you to decide to randomly let the big baddie win for no reason at any random point in the game.

Just let yourself be possessed by the Envy Demon in Champions of the Just. Problem solved.

Well i wouldn't join Corphy but i feel if players wanted an evil direction, let them have it..

This game was quite a linear thing.

Then we should be able to give our life to him. Y'know, a choice? That thing Bioware sells itself on? Why don't we have that choice, ESPECIALLY if we resist being the Inquisitor? A way to spite Cassandra and Leliana.

Actually it would have been pretty funny if we really could deny joining the Inquisition. When Leliana said, "you can go if you wish", I started dreaming of the life I would never have. Maybe find a nice plot of land in the Hinterlands. Chop some wood, grow some crops. Maybe venture to the market to sell useless loot I seem to find in every sack everywhere. Buy some vegetables.

Maybe lay down on a blanket and snuggle my new wife, looking up at the breach and saying, "yeah, babe, I walked out of that thing once".

That would have been the best choice decision ever.

No it doesnt.

Uh yea it does, if you agree to murder the argonian for the cultists you are officially accepted into the cult as an "Acolyte" and you are unable to finish the main story.

BioWare has already given you folks a game where you can side with the bad guys, it's called Darkspawn Chronicles. You can go play that right now! Complaining that you can't side with Coryphinus in a game dedicated to stopping him is rather trollish.

I don't see the point ; siding with C would ruin Thedas as we know it, basically make everything previously written about this world moot, and most probably prevent any possibility of follow-ups (at least in the way we've thought of them before). It would become much like the "choice" in Saints Row IV that says "Game over, SUCKER!" if you make the peaceful, remorseful choice. Fun to watch once, but nothing to build further upon.

Yes, only with more running and screaming.  LOTS of screaming.

This again.

For every story based game out there you'll find fans complaining that they can't side with the villain. At this point, bringing up that idea isn't some great thing nobody's thought about before.

But no, that's almost the same as asking them to make two games into one. Too many changes and too much content to be made.

Story wise, siding with Corypheus might be interesting. But desirable? That's an overstatement. You've seen the results in Hushed Whispers.
